Getting To Know Stuck in YA Books

It’s getting to know you time!

But first, last week’s winner of Divergent is Jessica Avalos ! Congrats. Please email your address to jenniferlarmentrout@live.com using the subject line “Winner of Divergent”

Blogger of the Week:

Stuck in YA Books

What country are you in?

Canada

How long have they’ve been blogging and rolling?

3Years

(Wowzers)

Q1. Why did you start blogging?

I started blogging after I finished reading Twilight. Yes I know I was on that band wagon. After that I knew I loved to read, and then started to write reviews on Chapters Indigo. I also then discovered similar likes to other readers and saw that a few of them had blogs, which then I officially then made a blog. It was fun, creative and I could contact my favorite authors.

(That’s cool)

Q2. Do you do weekly memes and if so, what is your favorite meme and why?

I do use weekly memes. My favorite meme would have to be Waiting on Wednesday because its the book I am most excited for the week and it also lets our readers add them to their lists as well.

(It’s my favorite too!)

Q3. What is your favorite aspect about blogging?

My most favorite would be connecting with your favorite authors and meeting new friends and publishers through this process. Its a blast being a book blogger!

(awws!)

Q4. If you can be stuck on an island with any author, who would it be and why?

……. It would be a toss up since I haven`t met my favorite author but I would for sure go with Jennifer L. Armentrout. I choose Jen because she was my first author interview on my blog. I love her Covenant, Lux and many more to come series. I would fangirl if I met her!!

(I think if you were stuck on an island with me, you’d regret it within five minutes.)

Q5. What book would you give up your left arm and maybe even a leg to see it translated into film or TV? Tell us why!

Throne of Glass- This would be high fantasy and full of action and romance. I would totally see this in a film in a heartbeat. Sarah J. Maas knows how to get my attention with her books.

(I need to read this!)

Q6. What is your favorite question to ask an author and why?

How do you develop the concept for your books?

(We put them in an oven of ideas)

Q7. What TV show is a not-miss for you?

Revenge: I love the plot and how Emily seeks revenge for her father. And The Walking Dead – I love how it can either scare me or I interested I am with this show.

(Yay! Walking Dead!)

Q8. What is your favorite movie that you can watch over and over again?

Wreck It Ralph- I absolutely adored this movie+ its a Disney movie. It has a lot of good messages.

Q9. Are you a cat, dog, fish, or gerbil person?

Totally a Dog person

Q10. Do you prefer print or digital?

I prefer print

Q11. What is your favorite genre to read and why?

I love either Young Adult/New Adult because its a mixture between them both in a way. YA has everything I love because it has so much genres and imagination. Plus the characters are awesome.

(I like the way you think)

Q12. What would you like to read more about?

I would like more contemporary or supernatural reads.

(I like the way you think again)

Finally, what is your favorite book of all time and why?

I have to many!!!

1. Half-Blood by JLA- I have a lot of love for this book and series because it was my first ARC.

2. Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas – I love me some good fantasy and more Chaol.

Today you have a chance to win Throne of Glass and Theo James. Okay. No Theo James. But I just wanted an excuse to post another picture of him.

You know the drill. Contest is International, yada and yada.

Meet Rachel Young from Crash Into You

I have a super special post for you today!

947129_10151515679608051_436454321_nMeet Rachel Young from one of my favorite books this year, Crash Into You, which releases November 26th, 2013!

From acclaimed author Katie McGarry comes an explosive new tale of a good girl with a reckless streak, a street-smart guy with nothing to lose, and a romance forged in the fast lane

The girl with straight As, designer clothes and the perfect life—that’s who people expect Rachel Young to be. So the private-school junior keeps secrets from her wealthy parents and overbearing brothers…and she’s just added two more to the list. One involves racing strangers down dark country roads in her Mustang GT. The other? Seventeen-year-old Isaiah Walker—a guy she has no business even talking to. But when the foster kid with the tattoos and intense gray eyes comes to her rescue, she can’t get him out of her mind.

Isaiah has secrets, too. About where he lives, and how he really feels about Rachel. The last thing he needs is to get tangled up with a rich girl who wants to slum it on the south side for kicks—no matter how angelic she might look.

But when their shared love of street racing puts both their lives in jeopardy, they have six weeks to come up with a way out. Six weeks to discover just how far they’ll go to save each other.

 Rachel Young

Description: Long blond hair, blue eyes, and I’m thrilled I just turned 17! I have a full driver’s license now!
Favorite Movie: Fast Five
Favorite Song: “Just a Kiss” by Lady Antebellum. It makes me think of my first kiss with Isaiah.
Favorite night out: When Isaiah takes me out for a drive in his car and then we end up on his favorite hill with me tucked close to him and we watch the twinkling city lights below.

Sentinel and Seth news!

I had such a wonderful time at the Sentinel and Frigid release date in Philly this weekend. I wanted to do a few thank yous first. Thanks to Damaris from Good Choice Reading for picking me up and hanging with me most of the weekend. I thanked her by showing her the “Bad Lip Reading of Walking Dead” and so I think it was a win for both of us.

Also, thank you Damaris and Good Choice Reading for taking online orders. That is awesome of you guys to take on that extra work for the love of books.

Another huge thank you for Kate and the team at Spencer Hill and Cindy Thomas for setting up the signing and doing all the leg work. I kind of just showed up, ran my mouth and signed books. You guys did the hard work.

And thank you Danielle for driving my ass back home because there were a lot of people running in the streets of Philly and across the bridge, giving me visions of Cloverfield, and I ended up missing my train and then some.

Thank you to Jen and Hannah for being there, and for bringing cupcakes.

Jen made “Cuddle Bunny” cupcakes for Seth! Aha! I want to eat the ears.

Also thank you for the tub of peanut butter icing. Tee hee.

Another thank you to Vi and her ENTIRE family for coming out and being awesome as usual. She made a cake that looked like the Sentinel book. I mean, it really looked like a book.

1471781_428663707235197_1564858146_nSeriously. That’s a cake, people.  I got to eat my name. Something that doesn’t happen a lot.

And of course, thank you to Barnes and Noble and everyone who came out to the signing! I was so happy to see so many excited people. You guys blow me away. For real. I heart you. When you guys squealed at the one moment, it made my heart go all fuzzy. This was definitely one event I’ll remember for a very long time.

Now onto the news that was announced at the signing.

1451318_428426607258907_1405498812_n

Meep! You guys have no idea how hard it was to keep this quiet with everyone asking about Seth and if he’ll have his own book or novella or bonus scene.  Seth won’t have a novella or a bonus scene.

He’ll have his own series.

Here are the details that I can share with you now.  Let’s LEARN about it. Giggle. Get it? Look at the picture.

563732_10200608762896138_711519556_n

Seth’s book, called THE RETURN is a TITAN NOVEL. It is NOT a part of the Covenant series, meaning this series can actually standalone from the previous books.

Quick facts:

1. The Return will be in dual POV (Seth and our main protagonist)

2. You have NOT met the female lead yet.

3. The female lead has absolutely no knowledge of gods and any of that

4. Since it’s a Titan novel, you can expect… the Titans.

5. Apollo will be all up in the book, because well, it’s Apollo and I sort of like him.

6. Deacon and Luke will make appearances, but other main characters will not be featured in this series. (Not giving details to avoid as much spoilers as possible)

7. The biggest difference is that the Titan series will be New Adult paranormal. And here’s the reason why. I never gave Seth’s birthday, but he’s always been well over the age of 18 years old, and I really have no real reason bringing him into a high school environment without making him look like a creeper. And he already has enough creeper tendencies as is, so he really is too old for YA. Does that mean the book will be inappropriate for younger readers? Absolutely not.  Will it have more adult content? Probably. I mean, Seth was always borderline inappropriate, but my YA books have that, so….

8. And it will be releasing in early 2015, tentatively February 2015 in both print and digital.

That’s all I can share right now, but I’m super excited about this and I hope you guys are too!

Here is the actual picture, all pretty and what not. A big thank you to Okay Creations for knocking this cover placement art out of the ballpark.

The Return(1)He soooooo looks like Seth to me.

Keep in mind, this is not the final cover. It may be tweaked a little. It may be completely redone. But I like it nonetheless. I also like the ‘single, perfect tear’ thing Seth’s got going on.

You know. Like this.

Jen really wants some Seth.

So I thought I’d share with you who I envisioned as Dez.

Not sure what that key goes to, but I’m game to find out!

~~~
My eyes narrowed on her. “I’m not telling him yes.”
“Whatever.” She rolled her eyes. “You’re mad. I totally get that, and you have every reason to be, but you haven’t looked at one guy since he left and you’ve definitely been looking at Dez.”
“Who wouldn’t look at Dez?”
She giggled and then her eyes darted to my door at the sound of a throat clearing. Oh, no. I scrunched up my nose, and Danika winced.
Dez, I mouthed.
She slid off the bed, and that was answer enough. As she hurried across the room, I turned. Dez stood in the doorway, arms crossed over his chest, looking entirely too pleased with himself.
Danika gave him a quick wave as she all but bounced out of my room. He nodded and then stepped inside, closing the door behind him. He was in my bedroom. Again. He’d been in here many times in the past, but that was before, and everything was different now.
“So…” He drew the word out, chin tipped down as he stopped by the desk that was covered in books, magazines and maps. “Who wouldn’t look at me?”
My lips pursed. “Is there a reason why you’re here?”
“Yes.”
I waited.
And then I waited some more. “Anytime now.”
Dez’s gaze moved from the top of my head to the tips of my neon-purple toenails. “I like what you’re wearing.”
Frowning, I glanced down at myself. I had on a camisole covered by a cardigan and a pair of god-awful sleep shorts Danika had bought me for my birthday. They were covered with teddy bears. Not the best fashion choice.
“Gets me in the mood for cuddling,” he murmured lazily.
“And that gets me right out of the mood,” I replied tartly.
Before I introduce the next blogger to you, I have a winner to announce from last Wednesday. The winner of Poison Study by Maria Snyder is:
Caitlyn Brown
Congrats! Please email me you full name and address to jenniferlarmentrout@live.com . Please include that you are the winner of Poison Study!
Getting to Know Jenuine Cupcakes!
Blogger of the Week:
Jenuine Cupcakes
What country are you in?
United States
How long have they’ve been blogging and rolling?
4 Years
(Daaaaaaaaannnnnnnng)
Q1. Why did you start blogging?
So I could share my excitement about whatever book I was reading at the time with whoever was interested. Plus, I think my friends were getting tired of hearing me fangirl.
Q2. Do you do weekly memes and if so, what is your favorite meme and why?
I like Jenna Does Books’ Truth or Dare Friday. You have the option of choosing the Truth or the Dare and all of it is book related.
(My mind kind of went into the gutter with that one. No big surprise there)
Q3. What is your favorite aspect about blogging?
Meeting the authors in person and giving them cupcakes.
(OMG, her cupcakes are the BOMB. Seriously)
Q4. If you can be stuck on an island with any author, who would it be and why?
I’m gonna go with you, because you’re fun to hang out with AND we could pass the time with you telling me stories about Daemon and Aiden and Cam. I could probably whip us up some choc/peanut butter sand cupcakes too.
(I’m feeling all warm and tingly. And I really want some peanut butter cupcakes now)
Q5. What book would you give up your left arm and maybe even a leg to see it translated into film or TV? Tell us why!
I am excited to see Daemon Black on the big screen. :D
(It’s only because Daemon is shirtless. A lot)
Q6. What is your favorite question to ask an author and why?
What kind of cupcakes do you like? Lame, I know, but it’s my thing. :)
(IT IS NOT LAME)
Q7. What TV show is a not-miss for you?
I rarely watch T.V. *hangs head in shame* I’m usually too busy reading or writing something.
(May I suggest Supernatural?)
Q8. What is your favorite movie that you can watch over and over again?
It’s A Wonderful Life. (It has to be the black and white version.) Lots of reasons!
Q8. Are you a cat, dog, fish, or gerbil person?
I prefer unicorns.
( 0_O )
Q9. Do you prefer print or digital?
Print. Digital is harder to pet.
(True dat)
Q10. What is your favorite genre to read and why?
YA! I do read some adult stories, but they have to be a far cry from my own life, otherwise what’s the point? I’m already living that reality, I don’t want to read about it too.
Q11. What would you like to read more about?
I would love to see more stories with guys like Cam Hamilton. Seriously, hot guys with manners and patience are more exciting than those with rippling abs and restraining order stamped across their foreheads.
(Yeah, restraining orders are typically a turn off)
I would love to see more stories with guys like Cam Hamilton. Seriously, hot guys with manners and patience are more exciting than those with rippling abs and restraining order stamped across their foreheads.
-->
I would love to see more stories with guys like Cam Hamilton. Seriously, hot guys with manners and patience are more exciting than those with rippling abs and restraining order stamped across their foreheads.
-->
Finally, what is your favorite book of all time and why?
Divergent. It resonated with me in ways I’m still unable to put into words but Tris’ journey from Abnegation to Dautless inspired me to take a flying leap out of my comfort zone and try things I never imagined myself doing.
Thank you for taking part in Getting to Know You! Up for grabs is Theo James!
Wait. No. A copy of Divergent. Contest is International. You know the drill.
Extracted Interview and Kindle Giveaway
I had the fun honor of interviewing Sherry Ficklin and Tyler Jolley, authors of Extracted which is available NOW!
Extracted_cover_120
Welcome to the war.
The Tesla Institute is a premier academy that trains young time travelers called Rifters. Created by Nicola Tesla, the Institute seeks special individuals who can help preserve the time stream against those who try to alter it. The Hollows is a rogue band of Rifters who tear through time with little care for the consequences.
Armed with their own group of lost teens–their only desire to find Tesla and put an end to his corruption of the time stream. Torn between them are Lex and Ember, two Rifters with no memories of their life before joining the time war. When Lex’s girlfriend dies during a mission, the only way he can save her is to retrieve the Dox, a piece of tech which allows Rifters to re-enter their own timeline without collapsing the time stream.
But the Dox is hidden deep within the Telsa Institute, which means Lex must go into the enemy camp. It’s there he meets Ember, and the past that was stolen from them both comes flooding back. Now armed with the truth of who they are, Lex and Ember must work together to save the future before the battle for time destroys them both again.
Amazon
B&N
 ~~~~

1) You have a new book, Extracted, coming out.  Will you tell us a little about it?

Sherry- Extracted is about two, teenagers, Lex and Ember, with no memories of their pasts. They have been stolen from their places in history and drafted to opposing sides in a secret war for control of time travel. One side wants to defend and preserve the time stream, the other wants to exploit it. But neither group is quite what they seem and as their memories begin to return, they have to choose sides and try to figure out how to deal with their own dark pasts.

Tyler-Jennifer, thank you so much for having us on your blog. Extracted is about steampunk awesomeness! Time traveling teens fighting over their place in history. One group, the Hollows, steals things from history and the other, the Tesla Kids, try to find the Hollows and keep them from messing up the time stream.

2) The main characters are Lex and Ember.  What’s something we can look forward to about these characters?

Sherry- Well, Ember is very unique among her peers. She has abilities she is reluctant to exploit and at the end of the day, the fiercest thing about her is her determination to do what she thinks is right and to protect the people she cares about—even if it means putting herself at odds with everything she has been trained to do. I think it’s a special kind of courage.

Tyler- Lex is Ember’s brother. He’s kind of a spitfire type character. He is confident and courageous. It’s possible that he will do anything so that he will look good in the end. On the flip side, he has a sensitive side for his girlfriend Stein and his sister Ember.

3) If you had to choose one song that expresses the theme of Extracted, what would it be?

Sherry- Oh, that’s tough. Maybe Pompeii by Bastille?

Tyler-Sherry has an obsession with Pompeii. I would say Rock You Like a Hurricane, by Scorpions. Or at least that is what plays in my head when I write the chapters.

4) The book combines steampunk and time travel.   What made you want to write a steampunk, time travel book?

Sherry- It was sort of the natural progression of the story. Because we are dealing with time travel, steampunk—which is at its core a blending of the modern and the archaic—just felt like the right thing to do aesthetically.

Tyler-Top hats, Corsets, and Monocles oh my. I think we decided to do Steampunk and time travel right in between the trunk ride to the desert and being tied up in Sherry’s basement. Sherry actually came up with it and I thought it would be cool.

5) On your website, you have a quiz to for readers to take to determine their faction.  Have you taken the quiz?  If so, what is your faction?

Sherry- I did and, no surprise, I ended up in the Tesla Institute. I really like the almost military regulation of it. I need structure. (If only to have something to rail against)

Tyler-I just love quizzes! Especially the ones that start with POP. Yes I have taken the quiz and I failed both. No really, I ended up in the Hollows. I’m pretty easy going and I think the Hollows is a good fit.

Tyler and Sherry

Tyler H. Jolley is a sci-fi/fantasy author and full-time orthodontist, periodontist (see: Overachiever). He divides his spare time between writing, reading, mountain biking, and camping with his family.

Sherry D. Ficklin is a full-time writer and internet radio show host with more mouth then good sense. She has a serious book addiction, but continually refuses treatment, much to her husband’s chagrin.

Tyler and Sherry met one fateful day and bonded over their love for books, science fiction, and donuts. Their first co-written novel came shortly after. Now, they still do all those other things, but also go to various steampunk conventions and events under the guise of ‘research’. We’re less than a month from release and I have a teaser for you!

~~~
           “You look beautiful.”
I stared at the roses. At night, their petals looked like black velvet. “Do you really think that’s going to get you anywhere?”
“I’m not trying to get anywhere.” His voice was closer, and a tingle of awareness skimmed down my spine. “It’s the truth. You were always something to look at, but damn, you’re beautiful, Jasmine.”
My heart jumped at his words no matter how badly I wanted to remain unaffected. A cool breeze stirred my hair and caused the hem of the stupid gown to float around my calves.
“Look at me,” he cajoled, tone gentle, even a little bit teasing.
I rolled my eyes. “I was serious inside, Dez. There’s nothing we need to talk about.”
“Are you sure about that?” His heat warmed my back, warning that he was closer still. “Because the way you kissed me tells me something totally different.”
“The way I kissed you?” I spun around and had to take a step back. He was right there. “I didn’t kiss you, you jerk. You kissed me.”
“Technicalities,” he murmured, and in a flash of a heartbeat, he was so close we were breathing the same air again. “You kissed me back.”
Although that might be true, I’d be damned before I admitted it. “I was too shocked to think clearly. Trust me, it won’t be happening again.”
“Is that so?”
I took a deep breath and let it out slowly. “Yes.”
He dipped his head so we were eye level.  “I’m going to have to disagree, Jas. That was only our first kiss—and it wasn’t even a real kiss.”
Getting To Know Two Chicks On Books
Wow! I’m so, so thrilled with the response to my Getting To Know You blog request. Over a 100 blogs signed up, so um, I guess I’ll be doing this for a while, eh?
I picked Wednesday as the day to do these posts, because my favorite book related meme is Waiting on Wednesday, so I thought it made sense. So without further delay.
Blogger of the Week:
Two Chicks on Books
What country are you in?
United States
How long have they’ve been blogging and rolling?
Three years as of December 31st, 2013.
(New Year babies, I see.)
Q1. Why did you start blogging?
Because I love books and wanted a platform to talk about them and spread word about the books, authors, and publishers I love!
Q2. Do you do weekly memes and if so, what is your favorite meme and why?
I occasionally do Waiting on Wednesdays and Swoon Thursdays. I like to feature upcoming books and swoony scenes.
(I like swoony scenes too. And turtles.)
Q3. What is your favorite aspect about blogging?
Meeting other bloggers and all of the amazing authors!
Q4. If you can be stuck on an island with any author, who would it be and why?
Karsten Knight because he’d keep me laughing and he’s freaking adorable. ;)
(And that fact he’s a cutie doesn’t hurt either. And he’s really tall, too. I stared at him once. From a distance. Sounds as creepy as it was in real life)
Q5. What book would you give up your left arm and maybe even a leg to see it translated into film or TV? Tell us why!
Poison Study by Maria V. Snyder. Because it’s a brilliant High Fantasy and it deserves it’s chance on the big screen.
Q6. What is your favorite question to ask an author and why?
How they come up with their ideas. I find it interesting how each one of them is so different when it comes to getting ideas for their stories.
Q7. What TV show is a not-miss for you?
