Troglodyte 2012
My friends on Facebook, have you no shame?
99% of your friends, family, acquaintancesand coworkers have already decided who they are voting for. Why must you slather the news feeds about “Romney did this so he’s teh evil” or “Obama did this so he’s teh evil”? You aren’t changing any minds, aren’t changing opinions about the candidates and only reinforce the opinions of others about you. Seriously, I quit Facebook for over a month because the news feeds were starting to get ridiculous. I started...

Awesomer
I officially have a minor quibble with the film making process now.
Why can’t they get military movies right?
The military operates the same as a set does: hurry up and wait.
“Everyone get in position. Okay, now wait! The sun’s not right! Move the scrim! Wait! Props need to be passed out. Okay, now ready. Okay, we’re holding… holding… okay, hurry up with that set piece! Wait!”
I guess I was the only one noting this during the shoot, since I guessed maybe one of person on set may have had military...

Getting The Point
Tomorrow I’m going down to Louisville, KY for my second major motion picture movie role (undoubtedly Extra #1,298), so my quasi-usual Tuesday review won’t be up until Wednesday. I’m torn because while I need to reviewPartials by Dan Wells, I also need to reviewSygillis of Metatronby Ben Garcia. However, what’s making it very difficult is that I want to review David Weber’sA Beautiful Friendship, which I picked up last week. ThePartialsreview won’t be very promising, though it was fairly enter...

Under the Gun
I’m writing, dearies. no worries there. I’ve just been writing at a much slower pace than I am used to. It makes for an interesting clash, since my brain is telling me the story faster than I want to write it. This is a curious problem, no doubt. Not abadone, mind you. Just… curious.
Wraithkinis motoring right along. There is just something about this story that won’t let me go. I’ve tried writing other stuff while working on it, but nothing seems up to snuff. I literally cannot wrap my head a...

MidSouthCon — Ready Or Not
Well, I’m officially listed as a professional guest for the upcoming MidSouthCon in March 2013. This addition brings the total conventions up to three for next year. Yeah, unlike a lot of authors, I really don’t do too many conventions. Finances and all that, y’know? More than four per year is unmanageable. I’m still not sure about Technicon, since Ireallywant to do Worldcon in San Antonio. If I do both, that’ll put me at five (yay, I can count!), which is too many. Plus it would make Feb-Mar...

Привет товарищ! (or, Greetings Comrade!)
Hello to all my new Russian friends!
Well, at least my info says that all my more recent new visitors are from Russia. Considering I haven’t been there since 1999, they must be new friends, right? Besides, it’s not like I did anything wrong in Russia… or Israel… or Turkey… and we’re not talking about Italy, so hey: it was all Rex’s fault. Well, okay, it was my fault, but that was because I assumed Rex wasn’t more naive than I was.
All right, all right. It’s my fault. I led Rex astray. I wonder...

Over The Barrel
I seriously screwed up at the job, and now I’m paying for it.
It’s frightening when you think about it. You work hard, try to do the right thing and follow procedures, but a mistake (like, oh, losing one’s temper) can destroy all the hard work and good effort one has made up to that point. So then you’re bend over the barrel, one mistake away from a firing, and you are scared. You’re nervous when doing your job. You’re looking through procedures, wondering if you’re next mistake, minor it migh...

Nerves
Reblogged from According To Hoyt:
Like many people I hate insecurity. Actually I suspect I hate insecurity more than most of you, and there’s a reason for that. During the worst times in my life, things were… insecure. I’ve said before that even in a revolution, even in turmoil, there is a lot of normality behind the chaos.
Possibly what I didn’t say is that there is a lot of chaos behind the normalcy, too.
There are some... times when people don't realize just how s...

Sharpening Knives
Nightwalkeris going to crack 10,000 words. The Editor… will not be pleased. It won’t be more than 10,500 (I hope) so here’s to getting it done.
Besides, aren’t editors around to neuter shorten stories for authors? I’m certain it’s in the contract somewhere…
Delving more and more into the Plantagenet/Tudor dynastic reigns as I gear up forWraithkinandWraithlord. I hate ripping off historical stuff to use in novels but the events leading up to Henry VII’s reign and how he got there happens to coin...
