Blurb:For five lonely years, diamond smuggling kingpin Lucas Ramone has hidden himself from the world. With a father who has baited him all his life, made a game of trying to trip him up at every turn, Lucas will do whatever is necessary to protect what is rightfully his. What he isn’t prepared for is Lilah Benson…
Upon accepting a job in the home of her sister’s maniacal ex-fiancé, reporter Lilah Benson believes she has finally found the perfect way to make her mark on the world. Exposing the criminal endeavors of Lucas Ramone won’t soon be forgotten. But as she comes to know the man who was supposed to be her adversary, Lilah is tempted by a passion far stronger than the desire to see her name in print…
Power and control are tools of survival, critical in a world of thievery and deception. Lilah, an innocent in a land of criminals, may be the one person capable of bringing Lucas to his knees. But Lucas will stop at nothing to keep his empire secure.
He will have it all: His Fortune, His Legacy, and Lilah Benson in his bed…
Excerpt:
Feeling the warmth of tears in her eyes, Lilah rose from the table. She never became so emotional over nothing. What in God’s name was wrong with her?
Lucas’s strong hand came against her shoulder. She didn’t pull away. In fact, she had the strangest urge to just lean into him. Like somehow, he would take away all of her doubts.
"Lena’s happy in her life with her children, and with Alec Westwood," he said. "I’d never begrudge her that. All I ever wanted was her happiness."
The way he said the words, she almost believed them. He seemed to care, or at least, maybe was trying to be a better person.
"You’re trembling," he said, reaching in before she could stop him. His finger brushed her quivering lip.
Her instinct was to smack his hand. But the tingling sensation racing from mouth to spine kept her in place. Lucas’s touch was so soft. It made her crazy. She was consumed by the strongest desire for his lips to be where his finger was now.
He took her wine glass and held it out to her. "Here," he said. "This’ll calm your nerves."
Senses returning with a bang, Lilah held up two hands in protest. "Are you trying to get me drunk?" she snapped, not entirely sure whether it was him she was angrier at or herself.
"Am I that obvious?" He laughed as if the whole thing was funny, setting the glass back down.
She enjoyed being in the company of a monster—there was nothing lighthearted about it!
"I’m guessing you’ve probably been down this road too many times, hmm?" Lucas replaced his hand on her shoulder.
"What road would that be, exactly?"
His gray eyes looked deeply into hers. "I’m sure I’m not the first man who’s tried to get you into a relaxed state, Lilah."
"Actually—" She hesitated, not wanting to get so personal yet feeling she could probably tell him anything and he’d somehow understand. "It’s been a long time, longer than you’d imagine. After I finished college, I had every intention of becoming a journalist. Meaning I’d be out most of the time chasing a story despite whatever danger came with it. It’s all I’ve ever wanted, for as long as I can remember."
He nodded, coming closer. "You must have been very persistent. It takes a good deal of perseverance and sacrifice to become a success at such a young age."
Lilah sure knew that. While her friends had been enjoying their last semester of college, she’d been frantically gathering writing samples, sending them out to every newspaper who would give her the time of day. But had her father noticed? Even when she became one of the youngest reporters at the New York Times, he’d barely raised a brow.
Deep down, she knew this was why she’d accepted Raphael’s offer, even in spite of the danger that came with it. A story about Raphael Ramone’s family laundry wasn’t going to impress Blake Benson. But exposing Lucas’s diamond smuggling operation would be a print-worthy unearthing that would win her father’s admiration as well as her first Pulitzer.
She lowered her gaze. "I haven’t given up anything so wonderful."
Lucas lifted her chin. "But if it came to that, do you think you’d be willing to make that sacrifice? Give up something you want—maybe something you want more than anything—to attain some ultimate level of self-victory?"
A chill came over her at his words. Lilah came back a step, unsure of what had just happened but wanting desperately to pretend it hadn’t.
Lucas cleared his throat. "Let’s get some air, shall we?"
Something she needed desperately. She followed him to the balcony, welcoming the cool night breeze as it caressed her hot skin.
"It’s beautiful here," she said, hoping very much to steer the conversation in a new direction.
"It is." He nodded and came beside her, bracing the rail with one hand. He slipped an arm around her back.
His body was warm—like a furnace—and he felt strong, as if he spent his days loading lumber instead of dabbling away at a computer.
Lilah shivered, goose bumps forming along her bare arms. It felt so nice being close to Lucas. Too nice. Maybe she’d just stay there with him a few minutes longer. They weren’t exactly hurting anyone by being in each other’s company.
He leaned into her, speaking in a tone she could only describe as husky. "Those men you never met," he said, "that was their loss."
She blinked, keeping her eyes on the night sky. "Please. A man’s the last thing I need in my life."
"Are you sure about that?" Lucas asked, his warm breath coming against her ear. "Or is it possible you’ve been hiding behind your work for so long, you don’t even know how things could be?" His palm brushed her bare shoulder as he turned her to face him. "No one knows what it’s like to be hidden from the world more than I do, Lilah. You can trust me on this. I think we’re more alike than you realize. And it’s possible we’re both missing out on something incredible."
She didn’t push his hand away as it cupped her cheek. Or his arm as it encompassed her waist. No, she let him do what he wanted. She wanted him to touch her...

DANGEROUS ALLY really had a true demented villain in "Raphael" that would do anything in order to get "Project Gemstone" from his son. I really hope that he pays for everything that he did to almost every single character in this book. He just gave me the creeps from the very beginning.I really enjoyed this book; it was so hard to put it down. It had all the twisted plots that a good suspense book should have with just the right amount of passion and romance. It shows the reader that not all relationships are a walk in the part, there are times that even if they are meant to be together, it is best just to let them leave and if they return, you know that it was meant to be. Just like Lucas and Lilah. Pick up this book today and see what struggles they went through to finally be together. I can't wait for the next book to come out. ~Cozy Reader, The Romance Reviews, http://www.theromancereviews.com/view...
The first novel in the series, Dangerous Ally, features new reporter Lilah Benson and sexy bad boy Lucas Ramone. You see, Lucas is a diamond smuggling kingpin who used to be engaged to her sister Lena, and also Lilah’s nemesis. So why is it she decides to take a job working for his father in the same home Lucas lives? The answer is easy really it gives her a chance to write the story that will make her career soar. The plan sounds easy enough until she actually meets him again and is tempted by the unwanted desire he invokes inside of her. Oh, he’s dangerous alright, because now that her heart is involved Lucas is more powerful than ever, but is he as ruthless and hard as she first suspects, or is he willing to make changes to save them both from the dangers that lurk in the background?
A tempting read, right? I thought so. The suspense begins immediately, and the chemistry between Lilah and Lucas is scorching. Add in manipulative relatives, sexy seductive staff members, a little stubbornness and a will to fight for what’s yours, and you’ve got yourself this intriguing read that will keep you on the edge of your seat from beginning to end. I loved it!~Jennifer Labelle, Labelle Books, http://labellebooks.blogspot.ca/2012/...
I found the book to be thoroughly engrossing and engaging from the start and I couldn't bring myself to put it down to go to bed. I had to keep reading until I reached the end just to find out how it concluded. Did the characters find their Happily-Ever-After? Well, I had to know, didn't I?There were so many different twists and turns in the book, it definitely grabbed my attention. There are parts where I wasn't too sure who to trust. Of course, that worked to make me fall deeper into the story. I really enjoyed the fact the author didn't stick with a golden boy. The hero, Lucas, just happens to be a villain. He knew he was one of the bad guys and would be the first to admit it. I like that the author didn't fluff out and fill him with excuses to blame everyone else for his behavior as some writers have the tendency to do. He kept on his big boy pants the entire book and didn't flounder for excuses. Of course, don't get me wrong, the man had a seriously dysfunctional family, major trust issues, a dark past, and a certain level of paranoia. Can't say I blame the guy though, but he didn't use those factors as a scapegoat for his actions. While those driving forces impacted much of his life, it's great to read about this guy's bumpy road to redemption. Villain or not, you couldn't help but cheer on Lucas as he feels his way through uncharted territory with the heroine, Lilah. Lilah was caught in between a rock and a hard place if I've ever seen one. She fights her attraction for Lucas, knowing he is the villain that left such a dark shadow hanging over her family. However, you can't choose who you love, right? ~Melissa Limoges, http://chitsuen.blogspot.com/2012/05/...
In this book we meet Lilah Benson, a reporter who has taken a job in the household of a big diamond smuggling Kingpin (Lucas). She thinks she is able to get a story of a life time but when she comes face to face with him she struggles over what she desires more her work or a passion for a man who is dangerous. Is Lucas really the man she thinks he is or is there more behind his bad boy image. Is he able and willing to make big changes in his life to save both of them from what dangers follow them. Well what can I say, apart from it was a really interesting read that took me no time at all to read because I couldn't put it down. The story flowed so easy and had me gripped from an early stage in the book. I loved the relationship between the two leads, talk about hot, toe curling and belly fluttering amazing. If you haven't read this book then I really think its worth a try. Honestly, I was captivated with this book based simply on the synopsis. Then I began reading and it took it to a completely different level for me. Normally, I believe that the synopsis covers basically what the book is about. In this case, Lauryn left all secrets within the book, which made for SUCH a great read! ~Tabatha Ventura, Insightful Minds, http://insightfulmindsreviews.com/201...

Today we have
Author Allison Merritt
Welcome Allison, so great to have you here with us. Can you tell us a little about yourself?
Thank you for having me today!I'm from the Ozark Mountains where I've lived almost my entire life minus a couple of years in Oklahoma. I live in the same house I grew up in with my husband and our dogs. I have a major in mass communications emphasis in print journalism, but I'm a lot better at writing fluff than hard news, so I decided to stick to writing novels.
~ Do real life events find their way into your stories?
I would have to say yes to some parts. My parents were married 31 years before my dad died and while it wasn't the perfect marriage, they were very dedicated to each other and to our family. I try to put that kind of bond into my heroes and heroines. I want readers to feel that at the conclusion of a book, this romance I showed them is forever.
~ Do you ever mimic family members or people you know when you choose characters?
Mostly just myself. I tend to be stubborn and pretty emotional over some things and I notice my female characters acting that way a lot. But I can definitely say I got that from my mom. I like my heroes to be strong and seemingly doubtless to the heroine, which I is how I always thought of my dad. Like he could fix anything as long as he believed he could. And that's an important part of mythical elements in a story. My heroes never doubt they'll do what's right as long as it protects the women they love.
~ Do you find yourself going back to the same inspiration for each story or is it always something different?
In my current series, I'm drawing heavily from Native American myth and ancient folk lore. I've been really interested in ghost stories since high school and a couple of years ago I got into cryptozoology. Myths and folklore really spice up my books.
~ When do you write? Early morning? During the day sometime or all day? After the kids go to bed?
I am not a morning person at all. I don't start functioning really well until about 10 or 11 a.m. If it wasn't for a day job, I have no doubt I'd be up late at night writing. I mostly work on my writing in the evenings after I get home and have some dinner.
~ How do you feel about marketing your book?
I thought writing was tough until I started seriously editing for publication and then I thought editing must be the hardest part of writing, but it wasn't until I started marketing that I realized it's hard to get a reader's attention when you're self-published. I'm thankful to have a good network of friends and other writers who are great for helping spread the word.
~ What social sites do you feel work best for marketing?
I signed up for HootSuite a month or two after publishing my first book. It's so much nicer to be able to go in and program little messages for Twitter and Facebook all at once, rather than having to do it all individually. Definately don't discount Twitter, because with hashtags you can reach people a variety of ways. I use Facebook quite a bit, and I have a Google Plus account, but my blog posts go there more than anything else. Goodreads still baffles me.
~ Is there any other genre that you would love to try writing? If so, what is it?
Historical romance was my very first love in writing. I don't think I've ever written a story that didn't have at least the thread of a love story in it. I wish I was clever enough to write a mystery, but I'm too much of a panster.
~ Do you always/ever see yourself as the heroine/hero when you write a story?
I was just thinking about this the other day. I always know what the characters look like, of course, but more often, it's easier to think from the character's point of view than to "watch" them act out a scene in my head. That way I don't get all bogged down by what each one looks like and I try to do accents in my head, but mostly I fail at that. They all sound like they're from southwestern Missouri or Oklahoma when they talk.
~ Just for fun, I have a few personal questions,
Favorite 5 1) Favorite Male Actor - Robert Downey Jr. 2) Favorite vehicle - Ford Mustang 3) Favorite way to relax - Going for a walk. 4) Favorite ice cream - vanilla 5) Favorite outfit - A t-shirt, a pair of shorts, and flip flops.
And for a bonus: If you could pick any place in the world to live, besides where you are now, where would it be? (Of course, without the hindrance of jobs or money needed)
I have always wanted to go to Bora Bora. All those photos you see of bright blue water and huts suspended above it, it just seems like the perfect place.

~ Is there an upcoming or current release you would like to share with us today and where can we find it?
My debut novel is The Treasure Hunter's Lady, a steampunk romance.
For years, Romy Farrington traveled at her world-famous archeologist father's side, exploring new lands and uncovering ancient secrets. It was everything she ever wanted, until a near-fatal encounter with hostile natives forced her and her father into a life of retirement in Boston and an undesired advance into proper society.
Everything changes again when she's saved from an accident by a brash Texan in a back alley. Abel Courte may act like a care-free cowboy, but he's harboring a secret—he's searching for the Diamond of Uktena, a legendary jewel that can cure any disease known to man. He needs information Romy's father has in order to get to the jewel. When he traces the origin of the Diamond to Dakota Territory, he sets off to claim the treasure, only to find the archeologist's fiery redheaded daughter stuck to him like a bug in sap.
In a race against time, Romy and Abel must learn to trust each other as they undertake a cross-country journey that will expose them to lands uncharted by white men, a deadly battle against the fearsome creature in possession of the Diamond and a fight to return to civilization where they might make the greatest discovery of all—love.

I also have another book in the series coming out in mid-September called The Sky Pirate's Wife.
After a tragic airship wreck, Captain Alwin van Buren makes a drastic decision to obtain a wealthy bride in order to save his flagging business. He meets his match in Sophie Barnes, heiress to an airship empire. After he seduces her and ensures their marriage—igniting a rivalry with her godfather—he learns the green-eyed beauty is as headstrong as he is.
Sophie knows Van Buren's reputation based on a series of dime novels written about his adventures. Determined to be more than an end to a means, she despises him for luring her into marriage. In fiction, he's a no-nonsense captain on the verge of piracy, but the flesh-and-blood man wins her heart by proving she's worth more to him than her money.
Their love is threatened when Sophie learns Van Buren's airship accident was a result of mythical creatures. Winged predators that appear to have a grudge against him, a fact he deliberately hid by accusing her godfather of sabotage. If she can forgive him for that, they still have to face the danger when they're cornered and at the mercy of beasts and the evil that controls them. The real test comes when Van Buren is asked to make a sacrifice that could destroy them both.
One final thing before we let you go today. Do you have a favorite recipe you'd like to share? I like to cook and am always looking for new recipes to try and share but it's totally up to you.
I don't cook very often, it's a talent that eludes me, but one time I tasted some cucumber dill dip at a fair and I bought the mix. For whatever reason (bcause they can, I guess), premade dip mix is expensive. I thought, I know I can make a decent replica of this for a little bit of nothing. So here's how I make dill dip.
8 oz.sour cream 1 tbsp. red wine vinegar or Worchestershire sauce 2 heaping tbsp. dill 1 1/2 tbsp. onion powder Splash of lemon juice Salt to taste
You can eat it right away, but it's even better after it's been in the fridge overnight. Mind, this doesn't have any cucumber in it, but you can chop them up really small and add it if you want. Just be sure to drain them because they have such a high water content.

Yummy! Dill dip is one of my favorites so i'll have to try this recipe, thank you.
It was a great pleasure having you with us today and I hope you come back soon.

Inspiration Comes in Strange Places…
Where did the idea for Make Me Stay Come from? One night back in January, I couldn’t get the Katy Perry song The One That Got Away out of my head. I was humming it in the shower and bam, the idea for my newest novella hit me.
I hopped out of the shower, wrapped a towel around myself and logged onto my computer as fast as I could. It was one of those moments where I had to get the scene down. It didn’t even matter that I was wet and shivering. It was the first time in my writing journey where I started at the end of the book. The chapter kept playing out in my head, and I knew no matter what happened from the beginning of the story on, I had to end up with what I had just written.
Now, don’t ask me what that song has to do with a BDSM romance, I’m still not sure. But, for whatever reason those lyrics triggered something in my subconscious. The inspiration was so strong that I managed to write Make Me Stay in three days. The story flowed, and the characters cooperated, so I went with it. Make Me Stay is a story about reconnecting with a lost love and finding away to make life work, no matter how crazy it may seem. It’s a love story at the core. I’m really pleased with the final outcome and I can’t wait to share it with all of you.
I’m also in the process of writing a second book called Surrender to Me. This novella will feature the main characters, Cade and Gracie, from Make Me Stay, but Martin Abrams will be the focus. You’ll meet Martin in Make Me Stay. He was one of those characters that wouldn’t leave me, so I gave the sexy Dom his own book.
Here’s a peek into Make Me Stay available now from Beachwalk Press…
Can the sub teach the Dom to play?
Natural submissive Gracie Miller thought she had found her other half in Cade Jameson. Not only did he help her through a difficult time in her life, in the bedroom he brought her more pleasure than she could have ever imagined. They seemed perfect for each other.
Cade knew what he wanted in the bedroom. Gracie brought out his domineering side and ignited his passion. But he feared he was too dominant for this beautiful, naïve girl, who was so young and impressionable, so he ended their relationship.
Two and a half years later, Gracie returns to town a new woman. She had moved to the city and found a "Master" who showed her what she was truly capable of. Now she's back and wants to show Cade exactly what kind of submissive she could be for him.
But after hearing all that she's experienced, Cade now wonders if he's dominant enough to satisfy her. Can he be the man Gracie needs him to be?

Excerpt…
Ten minutes later they were seated at a quaint restaurant in the center of town. Cade had requested a quiet table in the back so they wouldn't be interrupted. He was confused enough and didn't need any distractions. Being a well-known businessman, he was always running into people who wanted to have a drink with him. Gracie's return would probably be the talk of the town in a matter of days.
Once they ordered dinner and the waitress poured their wine he'd had enough small talk. He wanted answers.
"Why did you come back?"
"I told you." Gracie sipped her wine. "I took a job here."
"Do you think I'm stupid?"
"Of course not." She lowered her head.
"Don't do that."
"Do what?"
"Just look at me." He was puzzled over her return and her elusiveness frustrated him.
She quickly raised her gaze, meeting his eyes.
"You walked away from this town without a trace. I don't believe you would come back after all this time to consult. Something isn't right."
"You told me to leave."
"Me!" He tapped his chest. "I told you to leave me. I never expected you to disappear. I thought I'd know where you were and what you were doing." Even though he told her to go, he'd always intended to take care of her.
"Without you, there wasn't anything here for me. You were everything. I had no family. I lived in your house. Where did you expect me to go?"
"We could have figured it out together. I would have made sure you were taken care of." She'd always been his responsibility and when she left he panicked she'd end up on the street.
"I needed to go. I had to figure out who I was. That's what you wanted."
"I wanted you to be happy."
"I am." She smiled. "I told you, I met someone who helped me."
"Then why aren't you with him?" He didn't like to think about her with another man. It infuriated him to know someone else touched what was his, even if he did let her go. "Are you running from him? Is that why you're back here? Do you need my help?"
She laughed. "I could never run from Martin."
He hated knowing his name. "So, Martin was your boyfriend?"
"Not really." She took another sip of her wine.
Her mysterious behavior pissed him off. She'd better start talking and fast.
"Your husband?" He felt his blood boil. Could she have gotten married?
"Cade," she said as she reached for his hand. "I don't want you to freak, but Martin was my Dom. I was his submissive."

Maiden Behind the Mask
When Catalina Rodriguez is attacked by a would-be rapist and rescued by the dashing Ricardo Garcia, she not only becomes more aware of the handsome man, but also vows that she’ll never be a damsel in distress again. Using the timeless method of blackmail, she convinces her uncle to teach her to fight and becomes a masked crusader in the night, saving other damsels from robbers and rough handling. However, scandalous rumors and dwindling funds force Ricardo and Catalina to marry. Not immune to each other’s charms, their marriage starts fiery, but when one of Catalina’s nightly escapades results in dire consequences, she is forced to spurn her husband’s amorous advances…or reveal a secret that could turn him away from her forever. Ricardo’s not a man to be cuckolded or left in the dark. Is his wife having an affair with El Capitan, the masked savior? If so…they will both pay.
Excerpt She tore her gaze away from the mare and said firmly. “Cinco pesos. And only because this yegua has fire, not because of your terms. Selena, pay him.” Selena’s hand shook, but the pesos were transferred to the dirty palm. The man laughed with glee, the crowd dispersed, and Catalina was left with a dirty, starving horse. “We shall get you fed and cleaned up.” She patted the mare’s neck. A cloud of dirt rose in the air, and Catalina struggled not to cough. “I shall call you La Reina, because once in my establo, I shall treat you like a queen. Your body may be beaten, but your spirit is not broken.” “Catalina?” Her maid’s voice was tentative as it interrupted her quiet chattering. “Whatever possessed you—” “Fetch me a mozo,” Catalina interrupted her. “Take the remaining pesos and fetch me a groom. La Reina is going to her castle.” She wasn’t offering more explanation than that. She didn’t owe anyone an explanation. She’d done what was right. As her maid turned to comply, heading toward the livery, a loud pffffht rent the air. Catalina stared at her new acquisition in surprise. Selena froze and swung around to admonish her charge. “Señorita! Your behavior has been questionable enough this day. Mind yourself.” She shook her head and her finger both before turning back to the task at hand. Catalina heard her muttering as she sashayed away. She was too surprised and too tired to defend herself, but the breeze picked up, and a waft of foul air assaulted her. Catalina immediately tugged a delicate, lace handkerchief from her sleeve and placed it over her nose as she glared at the horse. La Reina snorted and pawed the ground. Catalina could swear the mare was laughing at her. She merely shook her head. “Dios mío, and you let me take the blame for that?” Pffffhht. Pfffht.
La Reina whinnied and bared her teeth as though she were smiling.

Excerpt from Surf's Up::
Every time he felt steady on the board, had a wave he could ride and would stand up, his focus would zip straight for the woman in the white bikini a ways in shore in front of him. He'd noticed her his first time out and with each additional glimpse, his attempts resulted in a nose dive. That woman needed to go back in her house before he really hurt himself. On the other hand, maybe she knew how to surf?
****
Kylee couldn‟t take much more of watching this poor guy wipe out every time he stood up. It just looked painful. She didn‟t know how to surf herself but after watching him, she wasn‟t about to try either. Even if she did know how, she wouldn‟t help. She was hiding out at her Grammy‟s winter home on the gulf coast for a reason; mending a broken heart, not meeting another guy.

Today we have a wonderful spotlight with
Lorraine Nelson
and her new release
Blessed Homecoming
The hometown girl and the handyman both carry emotional baggage. Are they destined to remain friends or is there room in their hearts for more?
***
Wendy Danforth is preparing to be a single mom, her ex-husband in jail for spousal abuse. She returns to her hometown, to renew her faith and to heal. Caught off guard by the handyman in residence, attraction hits, swift and piercing, but she quells her unruly emotions, in no hurry to get involved in another relationship. Besides, at almost nine months pregnant, she wasn’t exactly looking her best.
Jake Roberts, hired to renovate the Danforths’ house, took one look at his employer’s daughter and wanted to run far and fast. He hadn’t possessed an ounce of faith or been around a pregnant woman in three long years, not since his wife and unborn son died in an auto accident. They become friends, and when her ex-husband escapes custody, he steps up to protect Wendy and her unborn child. Will the danger and close proximity test their friendship? Or will it lead to more? Can Jake regain his lost faith, or will it elude him forever?
Blessed Homecoming - Excerpt
Jake found it hard to believe what he'd overheard, what that sweet, caring woman had endured at the hands of a man who had vowed to cherish and protect her. He'd been heading down to retrieve a package of wood screws when he heard Wendy crying and didn't want to interrupt. He didn't want to eavesdrop either, but her pain-wracked voice kept him an unwilling captive as she relayed events.
Broken bones, cracked ribs, dislocated shoulder and bruising over seventy-five per cent of her body. Then to heal and find out she was pregnant! Why would she be so happy about having that man's baby? Surely, she couldn't still love him after all that.
Hearing her speak of her faith in the midst of all that suffering struck a rusty chord inside his gut. Somehow, deep down, her quiet acceptance and determination spoke to him in ways that expensive therapy had not. She was a survivor, he'd give her that, but if her friend hadn't found her—no, he wouldn't go there. He couldn't. Divine intervention, she'd called it. He called it lucky.
She'd come home to heal and build a new life for herself and the baby. Surrounded by family and friends, she'd never have to fear for her life again. Although he'd barely known her twenty-four hours and had a definite aversion to getting involved in her problems, he'd do what he could to help her adjust to living in a small town again. If the gossips wanted to pair them off, so be it. He'd been through worse—much worse.
He sat on the step with his head in his hands, undecided whether to let her know he'd overheard or pretend ignorance. How could he ignore the pain she'd suffered? More surprisingly, he realized he wanted to be there for her, to prove that not every man was prone to acts of violence. Although, like her father, he'd had some thoughts on what he'd like to do to her ex if he ever had the chance.
She took the matter out of his hands when she sat a couple steps below him and, placing a hand on his knee, asked, "How much did you hear?"
His head jerked up and he searched her eyes, expecting to see anger and disgust at his audacity, but there was none. "Pretty much all of it. I'm sorry, Wendy. I didn't intend to eavesdrop, but I didn't want to barge in on you either."
"Are you all right?"
"You're asking me? After all you've suffered, I should be asking you that question."
"My suffering ended the day he was found guilty. All that's left now is the sentencing in two weeks' time and I don't need to be there for that."
"But you're expecting his child. How is that not suffering, considering what he put you through?"
"Every life is a gift from God. I don't always understand His methods, but at least I have one good thing resulting from a failed marriage."
"Did you love him that much?"
"At first, yes, very much. He was the man I'd always dreamed about, kind, caring and it didn't hurt that he was gorgeous to boot." She smiled at the memory, then sobered. "The love died a slow death when the abuse started. He always made me feel like it was my fault, until the day I ended up in the hospital with a broken arm and didn't go back. I realized then my dreams of a happy ever after were never going to happen."
"What did you do? Where did you go?"
"A social worker at the hospital made a couple of calls and arranged a bed in a shelter for abused women. My arm being broken meant I couldn't work for a couple weeks, but when I returned, I found out from my boss, Emma, that he'd been haunting the place, waiting for me to show up. She'd had to call the police on a couple of occasions.
She became my best friend. Emma encouraged me to lay charges and file a restraining order against him, which I did. I also filed for divorce. He didn't show up in court, didn't contest it, so the judge granted the petition based on the abuse."
"I would think so," he huffed in agreement.
"I saw Clyde around from time to time after that, and he never made any effort to approach me, for which I was thankful. But the night before the divorce became final, he showed up after I got home from work. The rest, as they say, is history."
"Can you really put it all behind you that easily?"
"Believe me, Jake, it hasn't been easy. Easy started yesterday when Mama met me at the bus stop with her arms wide open. Until then, I'd hoped, but wasn't at all certain of my welcome, circumstances being what they are."
He placed a hand over hers where it still rested on his knee. "For what it's worth, I'm glad you're here. You are one remarkably strong lady and I'm honored to be your friend."
"My faith is what's strong. I had to believe the Lord has a purpose for me in this life. That's when I decided it was time to come home. I'd been away too long." She gently disentangled her hand and rose to her feet, slightly wobbly at first, causing him to reach out and grab her upper arms to steady her. "Thank you."

What’s Your Line?
By Sheri Fredricks
A huge thank you to Krista for giving me her blog for the day! I’m sure she’s cringing, so I’ll start right in.
The opening line in a book can really draw the reader in. Some would say it’s a make-it or break-it moment. I looked to see what the opening lines were in my favorite books. Some were action, a few were dialogue. All of them were unique.
I thought today I would post the opening lines from Portals of Oz, my mythic romance that releases on July 13th.
***
Abelia walked close to the shop walls as she peered into windows and gazed at the street traffic. Humans lived a much different life than Wood Nymphs in the Boronda Forest. Everyone here was in such a hurry.
Curiosity brought Abelia to town. Patience, the Remedy Maker’s wife, had stuffed her head with the exciting goings-on in the small town of Willow Bay.
She jumped when an old truck blared its horn at a car that waited too long at a green light. Dogs barked while chasing laughing children in the park across the street. Above it all, the delicious aroma of fried foods beckoned with tantalizing promises of a delicious meal.
In the corner of the park, under the shade of an enormous sweetgum tree, a plant peddler set up shop with a folding table, and displays of bonsai trees in small decorative pots. Abelia longed to leave the security of the shop walls and venture across the street. But then she would be out in the open, vulnerable.
Alone.
***
Portals of Oz is one of my books that revolve around mythic inhabitants in the modern day Boronda Forest. Here's a little blurb that best describes the story:
Abelia, a Boronda Forest Wood Nymph, came to Willow Bay to satisfy her curiosity of human life, and got more than she bargained for.
Jack can't wait to leave Pennsylvania and return to his archeological work in Australia, where life is filled with dingos and roos.
Human hunters stalk the enthralling Abelia, and Jack comes to her rescue by creating a ruse of helping her choose a bonsai from a street vendor. The hunters back off, but she suddenly vanishes, and he's left confused as he returns to his home in the Outback.
When Abelia magically appears in Jack's kitchen, she must divulge who and what she really is, and risk the mythic people's secret for his help in returning to Boronda. Thrown together, they must fight off thieves set on stealing Jack's antiquities...and he must discover how to convince her to stay.
What do you think makes a great story opener? Is anything you prefer not to see?
Thanks for stopping by.

I love being the next stop on a blog tour for Sizzling PR...
Please help me welcome
Alexia Purdy...
Hi Alexia, so nice to have you here today. Can you tell us a little about yourself? I am a mother of 4, been writing since I can remember. I am a reading fanatic, love chocolate and music. I write YA urban fantasy and I am the author of Ever Shade and Ever Fire (A Dark Faerie Tale series), a dark take on Faeries.
What did you want to be when you were growing up or did you always want to be a writer?
I always wanted to be a writer and a nurse. I am an RN and now a published author so I am happy to say finally that I have done both.
When did you first start writing?
I started writing some in the first grade, little short stories. I have to say that I really got into it when I was in high school and continued on from there. I have really immersed myself into writing these past two years when I decided one day it was time to make dream #1 happen, become a published author.
What is a typical writing day like for you?
Wake up at the butt crack of dawn because my little kids are slammin their doors, open computer, walk away to make breakfast for everyone, facebook and promo time, walk away to make lunch, more promo, attempt to open Word to type a few words after I put the younger two little monsters to bed, Attempt again to write, get distracted by emails, attempt again, maybe write some. Then I am bogged down with the kids, chores and stuff like paying bills and errands. At night I read a little, then put the kids to bed then write for a few hours. It is so broken up nowadays, I am surprised I can finish anything.
Do you have an specific routine you follow or specific items you need with you when you write?
I like to sit on my couch with my lapdesk and laptop, music blasting with my earphones, a coke in hand and a bottle of water and just type. That is the routine. I through in some nerds to munch on if I feel really spontaneous. LOL.
What is your favorite part of writing? Is there anything you don’t like about being a writer?
My favorite part is seeing the finished product. It always is amazing. My least favorite is sitting down typing. I have no patience for this. I hate it like scrubbing floors.
What is your favorite length of book to write? (Short story, novella, full length novel) Why?
I write full novels so I think that is my favorite so far. I am actually starting to dwell with short stories so I will see how that goes.
How does your family feel about your writing and you being an author?
My family supports me though they have not read my books at all. I’m an anomaly being one of the only readers in my family.
Is there a to-be-read waiting on your bedside table?
Well not just there but in my kindle, on my dining room table, hanging off the bookshelves. Yep, I’m a book hoarder. I do read them though! I have enough to last a lifetime.
For fun, I have a few personal questions,
Favorite 5
1) Favorite Holiday - Halloween
2) Favorite Drink - Coke
3) Favorite Author - Cassandra Clare
4) Favorite Book - Gone with the Wind
5) Favorite Animal - Birds
And for a bonus: What is a typical mood for you? And is your mood different when you’re writing?
I am pretty easy going. I hate to be interrupted but It happens a lot. My mood when writing is usually melancholy to anxious. It depends on what I am writing.

The Serenity of the Land of Faerie is threatened as the Unseelie Queen Aveta rages war against the three remaining Seelie Realms of Faerie. As Shade's powers grow, she finds she is running out of time to keep the war from spilling into the human world. Winter is growing in strength as the evil Queen's horrifying legions scar the land in their frigid wake. No one is safe. Shade becomes enemy number one for the Unseelie legions. Questioning her true role of power, Shade discovers the cost of winning may come at a much higher price than she ever imagined.

Show Less Excerpt from Ever Fire:
Vange stopped abruptly, watching her witch light suddenly bounce off an invisible wall. Tilting her head, she scanned the dirt until she spotted what she was looking for. Crouching down she lit the ground around her with the witch light and frowned, noting the specks of still drying blood and salt trail. Standing again she reached out to touch the invisible shield before her.
Damn! Jade already knows.
The shield rippled under her hand and sent a vibration of pain up her arm. Pulling her hand away, she winced from the slight shock. Vange had no choice now but to call her sister out of the house and speak with her. The protection shield was strong. Even she could not penetrate it. She concentrated on the shield, feeling not one, but three powerful essences embracing the spell. If Jade had found two other Witches to perform the spell with her, they were now as safe as anyone could ever be in their own home from Faeries, lest hiding in an oubliette. No one could enter without their permission. No one and nothing could penetrate its magic.
One last thing before we say goodbye today. Do you have a favorite recipe you'd like to share? I like to cook and am always looking for new recipes to try and share but it's totally up to you.
I hate to cook! But I do what I must. I love easy recipes that taste sooo good. My favorite thing to make is Taco Soup.
1 packet Taco seasoning mix1 lb ground beef1 can stewed tomatoes
1 can black beans

I love being the next stop on a blog tour for Sizzling PR...

Please help me welcome
Alexia Purdy...

1 can yellow corn
3 cups water
Brown the beef on a skillet and drain. Add tomatoes, corn, black beans, taco seasoning and ground beef together in a pot with the water. Bring to a boil for about 10 minutes let simmer. Turn off stove, let cool just a bit, serve in bowl and enjoy with some corn chips or toss some frito chips into the bowl and enjoy <3
