Why I Try Not to Take My Writing Too Seriously

Alexander M Zoltai:

Isn’t being a writer a “serious” thing?

Read today’s Re-blog and you’ll have much to ponder…

A Blog for All Seasons

Brain Pickings

Click This Image for Some Fine Blogging…

This will be the 16th post I’ve done about Maria Popova—and, I should point out that if you take that link, you’ll see this post at the top of the other fifteen—I “Tag” my posts and they get gathered-up in the Top Tags area—down a bit in the left side-bar

You may want to spend some time checking out the Top Tags since there are over 1,200 posts on this blog and, in all honesty, today is not my best day to write a post

Just dealing with more than a bi...

The Connections of My Reading Life

Alexander M Zoltai:

Today’s Re-Blog is about the many kinds of Bonds—personal and social—that reading can bring into your life…

Originally posted on Nerdy Book Club:

Reading is such a natural part of my everyday life that, at first, I struggled to do any writing about my “Reading Life.” I was afraid it would seem quite mundane –doesn’t everyone have a Reading Life? Upon reflection, I realized it probably isn’t all that usual to spend more money every year on books than on shoes and clothes (wh...

“Wordnik Is Looking for a Million Missing Words—Can You Help?”

The title of this post was the subject line of an email I got yesterday.Wordnik

Wordnik is an online dictionary/thesaurus; and, if you didn’t know, a thesaurus is what tells you the synonyms of words. Wordnik also tells you a word’s etymology—its word-history

Or, in their own words, “…we’re the world’s biggest and friendliest English dictionary.”

Then, they told me:

“This is just a quick email to let you know that Wordnik launched a Kickstarter campaign today!”

Before I share about the Kickstarter...

Short and Sweet Advice for Writers – Write Like a Puppy

Alexander M Zoltai:

Today’s Re-blog is good advice for anyone who writes but, especially, for those who’ve, so far, just been “playing around” with writing…

What I just said might seem “wrong” considering the topic of the Re-blog; but, I’ll stand by it :-)

Originally posted on Live to Write - Write to Live:

Writing is serious business. Doing it well requires study, commitment, and dedication. There is a lot to learn – form, structure, style, voice – more craft nuances than I can name. “Real” w...

The Plot Hole That May Not Be A Plot Hole

Alexander M Zoltai:

Today’s Re-Blog is obviously for writers but could also be for those readers who will never want to write…

Originally posted on Creative Writing with the Crimson League:

balance-875413-mPlot holes are not simple things. Oh, sure, editors and readers can recognize them when they see them, but the fact is, making concrete observations about plot holes can be difficult because fiction is so diverse in its genres, tones, themes, and purposes. To that extent, a problem may qualify as a plot hol...

Write! (You Know You Wanna)

Alexander M Zoltai:

Yesterday, I blogged about children’s books for adults…

Today, I’m Re-blogging about writing picture-books for kids :-)

Originally posted on Nerdy Book Club:

It took quite a while for me to identify myself as a writer. Until only recently, and despite enough picture book manuscripts to wallpaper the moon, I would gloss over my writer-ness, opting instead for “former visual effects artist,” “mom,” or “sandwich maker” which I’d throw in just to see the reaction. I waited unt...

YA & Children’s Books for Adults

I’ve known quite a few people in my time who’d be shamed if others saw them reading a book that wasn’t Age Appropriate

Age Appropriate Reading

Just for a moment, imagine yourself sitting in a public place (with no children around you) reading a kid’s book—brightly-colored cover and all

There are many reasons adults have for not reading (all by themselves…) “non-adult” books.

However, “coloring-within-the-lines” can often keep you...
