Banjir Di Terengganu Belum Surut, Kini Paras Air Di Kelantan Pula Meningkat

Jabatan Meteorologi Malaysia (METMalaysia) telah mengeluarkan Amaran Hujan Berterusan bahaya, buruk dan waspada untuk beberapa negeri di Semenanjung, pada bulan Februari lalu.

26 Februari 2022 lalu, Muhammad Helmi Abdullah (Ketua Pengarah METMalaysia) berkata hujan berterusan bahaya membabitkan beberapa daerah di Terengganu (Besut, Setiu, Kuala Nerus, Hulu Terengganu,Kuala Terengganu, Marang, Dungun) dan Kelantan dijangka akan berlaku berikutan luruan monsun dan cuaca tekanan rendah di Laut China Selatan yang memasuki sempadan Pahang dan Terengganu.

Review MSI GS63VR More Meets Eye

Now that we’ve gotten all the talk about the notebook’s looks and design out of the way, let’s talk about the main point of interest of the GS63VR: its performance.

To benchmark this machine, we subjected it to following synthetic benchmarks and games:

There was one other thing that we did before proceeding with the benchmarks, and that was to overclock the GeForce GTX 1060 inside the GS63VR. You read that right: as the new Pascal GPUs are the same as the full-sized desktop GPU, they can essentially be overclocked to run at higher clock speeds. In this instance, we used MSI’s own Afterburner overclocking tool and overclocked the card by an additional 125MHz on its core clock, and by an additional 200MHz on its memory clock speed.

3DMark 2013

As it did when we first caught a glimpse of the notebook back in Bangkok, the GS63VR’s performance fell well within our expectations. Surprisingly, the overclocking that we applied didn’t seem to have any effects on the performance before we overclocked it, and even shares similar scores to the ILLEGEAR S5, another gaming notebook that we also recently reviewed.

For a notebook of this category to be able to achieve these sort of scores on its synthetic benchmarks is nothing short of extraordinary.

PCMark 8

To be frank, we actually had no reason to believe that the GS63VR would perform badly on this benchmark, and the scores actually prove it. Intel’s new Core i7-6700HQ CPU is definitely no slouch when it comes to handling the multiple video encodings and text processing that it had to do in the tests.

Unigine Heaven

Unigine Heaven may be getting on a bit in its age, but it’s still a very reliable benchmark that can still stress out a GPU, and it automatically scales its resolution based on the display being used. To that end, the GS63VR performed beautifully on this benchmark, attaining a very high average 77 fps throughout the benchmark, the highest that we’ve seen so far on a slim form-factor gaming notebook with a single GPU configuration.

Real-world test

Our synthetic benchmarks notwithstanding, we wanted to see how well the GS63VR actually performed in a real-world scenario. So, we set the notebook loose on a list of our chosen triple-A titles which, as we had already listed earlier, were Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, Doom, Dragon Age: Inquisition, Far Cry 4, Rise of the Tomb Raider, and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.

And, as you can read the charts for yourself, the end results of each title were exceedingly satisfying. The lowest average frame rate that we ever got in any of the games was 43 fps in Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, with the highest average frame rate coming from Doom at nearly 86 fps.

This is an amazing feat, especially when you remember than nearly a year ago, gaming notebooks in the same category as the GS63VR could only hope to achieve half of these average frame rates.

Of course, it should be pointed out that if you’re gaming on the notebook’s battery, the system’s frame rates drops significantly until you plug the notebook back to the wall. That being said, we did manage to get a near hour of solid gaming out of the notebook while on battery, but that came at a price of lowering the display’s brightness, along with the overall graphics settings of our game title (we left them at medium).

Battery life

Speaking of battery life, we found during our testing that the GS63VR’s battery life expectancy borders more or less on the line of decent, yet slightly unimpressive.

As we mentioned before, it was pretty much able to give us approximately an hour of playing The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt or Deus Ex: Mankind Divided with just its battery, and that was with both of its graphics settings brought down a couple of pegs. As further proof of that, the battery test on PCMark 8 only logged in one hour and 25 minutes of continuous running on the battery.

Impressive actually kicks in when we decided to just use it as our daily driver: typing out reviews and reports, watching the occasional YouTube video or movie, and replying emails on it, but no gaming. On top of that, we dimmed down the display’s brightness level between 10 and 20 percent, depending on our location.

As a result, we were actually able to get slightly more than four hours out of the GS63VR, which is more or less about the same as some of today’s notebooks that favor stamina over power.

Conclusion

It’s very rare for us to genuinely get excited over a notebook, but MSI’s GS63VR is one of the first notebooks that does exactly that.

Compared to portable gaming machines of yore, it’s the first notebook of its category that actually ticks off all the right boxes. It comes in a clean and slim, machine-cut metallic alloy chassis, weighs in at just 1.8kg, and more importantly, it’s built with some of the latest components that money has to offer.

The 15.6-inch form factor and Full HD display is absolutely brilliant, and it’s a feature that the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 is capable taking full advantage of whenever games are involved. MSI does have a variant with a 4K display for the GS73VR model, but considering that both models use the same discrete GPU, it’s all rather redundant, especially when you consider that the GeForce GTX 1060 was designed for Full HD gaming, and nothing more than 1,440p gaming at best.

The RGB LED SteelSeries keyboard is a nice bonus, and it’s an implementation that we can understand and get behind, what with it being a fad for almost all PC components having some sort of funky lighting attached to it.

To sum things up, the GS63VR would be flawless, but alas, the one caveat that holds back this notebook is the HDD, which only spins at 5,400 rpm. Granted, you could simply just swap it out yourself with a better and faster HDD or SSD, but then you’d void the warranty, so keep that fact in mind.

Nevertheless, at RM8,999, we can’t say that it’s the cheapest gaming notebook on the market, but considering the power and performance that this thing is able to churn out on all of our triple-A titles, this is definitely one of those products that’s really worth every sen.

Tech News Custom Titan Sighted Gigabyte Tech Tour

The Gigabyte Tech Tour, which is held annually around the globe, is an opportunity for the media as well as distributors to experience first-hand some of the latest products from the company. The Malaysian leg of the tour was held earlier today in KL, where Gigabyte showcased a number of interesting hardware. With the central theme being ‘New Ideas’, the products being showcased were definitely fresh and innovative.

The Tour

The tour began with Ben Lai, Manager, Product Department, Multimedia Division of Gigabyte, introducing the Gigabyte Aivia Uranium, a powerful wireless gaming mouse that features a dedicated receiver, which doubles as an information hub with an OLED display that shows information such as DPI settings and other useful information. Lai also introduced the Aivia Neon, a mouse that’s best described as an all-in-one mouse. Developed for presentations, the Neon has a built-in laser pointer, has motion tracking capabilities and is entirely wireless.

Alina Liu of the Marketing Department for Graphics Card Sales and Marketing, Gigabyte, then took to the stage to introduce the Gigabyte FLY, S3000, and most interestingly, an NVIDIA GeForce GTX TITAN that features a custom cooling solution. The FLY is a headset that features powerful 40mm drivers, while the S3000 is the world’s first 2.0 speaker system to be powered by USB 3.0.

Gigabyte GeForce GTX TITAN

Of these items, the most outstanding item would be the Gigabyte GeForce GTX TITAN that features the WINDFORCE cooling solution. By the looks of it, GIGABYTE incorporates its WINDFORCE 3X solution for this build. It was also explained that to make full use of NVIDIA’s GPU Boost 2.0 technology, the company designed the cooling solution with an increased wattage rating. This is to ensure that the fans run as fast as possible, keeping the card cool, which in turn lets GPU Boost 2.0 squeeze more performance.

We found this TITAN to be extremely unique, not because this is the first time we’re hearing of a cooling solution that uses more wattage to provide increased fan speeds, but for the fact that NVIDIA had said that all cards based on the GeForce GTX TITAN MUST sport reference cooling solutions. We’re trying to learn more about this, and once we do get a solid answer, rest assured that we’ll keep you posted.

Tech News Review Beyond Two Souls

What lies beyond the afterlife? That is a question that has been asked by humans throughout the centuries. In Beyond: Two Souls, game designer and director David Cage poses the same question as he weaves a new narrative about the afterlife. The result is a personal, engaging emotional narrative that touches on loss and hope. Ever since young, Jodie Holmes has always been different. She can see spirits and move things around her due to a spirit entity named Aiden, who is connected to her body. Aiden cannot venture too far from Jodie, but she can command Aiden to move things or even possess people to do her bidding. Jodie is taken under the care of paranormal investigator Nathan Dawkins, who helps to nurture her powers and abilities. As she grows older, the government takes an interest in her powers and recruits her into the Central Intelligence Agency.

Jodie’s life doesn’t play out in a straightforward manner in Beyond: Two Souls. Instead, you jump between different points in her life in a nonlinear order, which is shown as a long timeline. As the timeline fills up with more completed chapters, the gaps between chapters generate intrigue about her past and present. For example, a much later chapter of Jodie’s life which sees her being hunted by the authorities is presented early in the game. Why is Jodie on the run? Likewise, is there a hidden motive behind Nathan’s eagerness to help Jodie? These questions are only answered much later in Beyond: Two Souls, once players are more accustomed to the controls and Jodie’s character.

Intuitive Motion

Beyond: Two Souls‘ controls are more simplified and less obtrusive than Heavy Rain. Most action prompts now only show up as a white dot, so players just have to move their directional stick in the direction that makes sense. During fast-paced action or combat scenes, the action on screen will slow down, indicating to players to move Jodie in the direction that her arms or legs are facing. Likewise, when you are in control of Aiden, you can interact with items with blue dots by pulling or pushing the controller’s dual sticks. In later chapters, you can even use Aiden to see the last few seconds of a person’s life by guiding the spirit in the item or corpse to Jodie’s head. The game doesn’t do away with button or motion prompts completely – some combat and stealth action scenes may require players to shake the controller to break free from an attacker’s grip, or to take cover and shoot at enemies. Beyond: Two Souls’ controls are simple yet elegant, making interaction more intuitive.

The main actors of Beyond: Two Souls play their parts masterfully, especially Ellen Page who convincingly portrays Jodie as a young woman who is initially resentful of her powers and psychic connection to Aiden for robbing her of a normal childhood. Page brings Jodie’s character to life with her innocence and quiet determination along with a healthy side of rebelliousness, and it’s hard to imagine anyone else as Jodie. Equally exceptional is Willem Dafoe, who plays surrogate father to Page’s character. As a popular character actor, Dafoe brings warmth and compassion to his character Nathan, as well as a slight sinister quality to his overall personality. Actors Eric Winter and Kadeem Hardison do a solid job in supporting both characters’ roles. There are no weak performances here.

Moving Beauty

Also equally important to bringing Beyond: Two Souls to life is the game’s solid movement and facial animations. Quantic Dream motion captured both Page’s and Dafoe’s movements, and the result is outstanding. Some of the standout scenes in the game include Jodie heaving appearance upon fighting against the police, as well as shivering from the cold while begging for money from passersby. Their facial animations and details are equally impressive. The game’s side characters have noticeably less details to their faces and their movement animations can look a little stiff at times. But Beyond: Two Souls is still a great-looking game on the PlayStation 3, only surpassed by a few titles such as The Last of Us.

Once you’ve completed Beyond: Two Souls, there are a few incentives to replay chapters. Besides being able to play the game with a friend where one controls as Jodie while the other as Aiden, there are bonus contents such as design packs and behind-the-scenes videos, which are unlocked by finding bonus soul orbs that are hidden in some game chapters. There is also the appeal of seeing how things would play out differently if you chose a different course of action or response from your original approach, such as choosing to be cold to a group of teenagers during a party or taking action on your adoptive father before he leaves you at the facility. Some have a direct effect on the game’s ending, while others are more subtle. When compared to Quantic Dream’s previous work Heavy Rain, Beyond: Two Souls story and endings are arguably less complex, but they are stronger in its execution thanks to the smart script.

Answering the Mystery

Who is Aiden? What are the dark creatures that leave scars on Jodie’s body? How did Jodie gain her powers? What lies beyond after death? These questions which are strewn throughout the narrative are answered throughout the course of Beyond: Two Souls, as the game slowly unpeels the layers of intrigue that permeates the whole narrative. Unlike the haphazard storytelling nature of Heavy Rain, Beyond: Two Souls’ story is a lot more focused and enjoyable. Beyond: Two Souls’ ending even sets up the pieces for a potential sequel, though Jodie’s personal journey is neatly tied up at the end. Beyond: Two Souls is an immersive, entertaining adventure from start to finish.
