Spiritual lust and anger

The origin of lust is in the Supreme. If, therefore, lust is transformed
into love for the Supreme, or transformed into Krsna consciousness — or, in
other words, desiring everything for Krsna — then both lust and wrath can
be spiritualized. Hanuman, the great servitor of Lord Rama, exhibited his
wrath by burning the golden city of Ravana, but by doing so he became the
greatest devotee of the Lord. Here also, in Bhagavad-gita, the Lord induces
Arjuna to engage his wrath upon his enemies for the satisfaction of the
Lord. Therefore, lust and wrath, when they are employed in Krsna
consciousness, become our friends instead of our enemies.

Failure is the pillar of success

T\here is every chance of failure on the yogic path; even a great sage
like Visvamitra Muni can fall down due to material allurement. Although the
muni fell for the time being, he again resolved to go on with the yoga
process, and this should be our resolve. Krsna informs us that such failures
should not be cause for despair. There is the famous proverb that "failure
is the pillar of success." In the spiritual life especially, failure is not
discouraging. Krsna very clearly states that even if there is failure, there
is no loss either in this world or in the next. One who takes to this
auspicious line of spiritual culture is never completely vanquished.

Is Bhakti Dependent Upon Karma?

Question:
Generally it is considered that our faith depends on what we did in the previous life, so is it that if we have performed pious activities in the past life, we take to bhakti in this life? In other words, is bhakti dependent upon karma?

Srila Prabhupada's previous life

From Bhrgu-samhita [an astrological treatise] it was ascertained, they said
– I do not know — that I was a big physician in my last life, very
spotless character, no sins, like that. He explained me. So it may be. But
actually I have no remembrance that I was a physician. So what do we know? I
might have been a very big physician, influential physician, having a good
practice, but where is all…? All gone.

To love Krsna cent percent.

To love Krsna means you have no more material desire. The percentage you are
lacking Krsna love, the percentage material desires are there. Ye yatha mam
prapadyante [Bg. 4.11]. If you love Krsna ten percent, then ninety percent
material desire. And if you love Krsna ninety percent, ten percent material
desire. And if you love Krsna cent percent there is no material desire. This
is the way. So if you love Krsna twenty-four hours, cent percent, simply
thinking of Krsna, and offering obeisances, worshiping, then where is the
possibility of material desires? There is no possibility.

You cannot become master

There is no such thing to become master. It is useless. You cannot become
master. Ahankara-vimudhatma kartaham iti manyate [Bg. 3.27]. You cannot
become master. Jivera svarupa haya nitya krsna dasa [Cc. Madhya 20.108-109].
Either man or woman, everyone is servant of Krsna. We have to be trained up
in that platform, how to become the best servant, not only servant directly,
but servants, of the servant. This is called parampara servant. My spiritual
master is the servant of his spiritual master, and I am also servant of my
spiritual master. Similarly, we think "servant of the servant." There is no
question of becoming… This is material disease [Cc. Madhya 13.80].
krsna bhuliya jiva bhoga vancha kare
pasate maya tare japatiya dhare
As soon as we become puffed up — "Now I shall become master. I shall be
simply giving order. I shall not follow anyone" — that is maya. That
disease is going on beginning from Brahma down to the ant.
