Whoever Follows Will Have the Legacy
Bhakti Caru Swami: Just a few days before Srila Prabhupada left the planet,
two prominent Indian gentlemen came to see him. One was Sriman Narayana, the
Governor of Madras, and the other was his brother-in-law, Rama Krsna Bajaj,
a big industrialist. At one point, they said that they wanted to discuss
something with Srila Prabhupada privately, and Prabhupada asked us to leave
the room. We left the room, although we didn’t want to, but while leaving I
pressed the recording button on the tape recorder. These two men asked
Prabhupada, “Who will continue your legacy after you leave the planet? Who
will become your successor?” Prabhupada said, “I am giving the legacy to all
my disciples, all my followers, and whoever follows will have the legacy.”
Then those two realized that the tape recorder was on and they asked
Prabhupada if they could switch it off. After that I don’t think they had
any serious discussion. Srila Prabhupada made it clear that whoever follows
him has his legacy. Prabhupada didn’t want to appoint a successor as such.

Overcoming Feelings of Separation from Srila Prabhupada
There are two conceptions of presence — the physical conception and the
vibrational conception. The physical conception is temporary, whereas the
vibrational conception is eternal. When we enjoy or relish the vibration of
Krsna’s teachings in Bhagavad-gita, or when we chant Hare Krsna, we should
know that by those vibrations He is immediately present. He is absolute, and
because of this His vibration is just as important as His physical presence.
When we feel separation from Krsna or the spiritual master, we should just
try to remember their words of instructions, and we will no longer feel that
separation. Such association with Krsna and the spiritual master should be
association by vibration, not physical presence. That is real association.
We put so much stress on seeing, but when Krsna was present on this earth,
so many people saw Him and did not realize that He is God; so what is the
advantage of seeing? By seeing Krsna, we will not understand Him, but by
listening carefully to His teachings, we can come to the platform of
understanding. We can touch Krsna immediately by sound vibration; therefore
we should give more stress to the sound vibration of Krsna and of the
spiritual master — then we’ll feel happy and won’t feel separation.

Prabhupada-varsa
When Rajeev Gupta, the young Hindi translator came, Prabhupada preached very
strongly to him. Rajeev reported that one man on the train said to him that
the name of India should be changed from Bharata-varsa to Prabhupada-varsa,
since Srila Prabhupada had performed even more yajnas than Maharaja Bharata.
This statement pleased Srila Prabhupada very much.

Srila Prabhupada predicts Krsna consciousness in Yugoslavia, Russia
Madhudvisa: … is it possible to spread Krsna consciousness in Yugoslavia?
Prabhupada: Everywhere possible.
Madhudvisa: And in other Russian… But these countries are all under
Communist rule. It is very difficult in those countries.
Prabhupada: Not difficult. Nothing is difficult. For the time being it is
difficult but in due course of time it will be very easy. Now who knew that
in Europe and America or all over the world, Hare Krsna will go on?

A Fanatical Professor
Another time a university professor was invited to speak with Prabhupada. At
first he was cordial, but as the discussion continued he started objecting
and then finally criticized Prabhupada. Prabhupada didn’t say anything, but
the professor became more challenging and more critical up to the point of
insulting. Just then, one of Prabhupada’s disciples interjected and asked
the professor why he had come such a long way to be so offensive to Srila
Prabhupada. The professor retorted not to the disciple, but directly to
Prabhupada, saying that it was “fanatics like him who give your movement a
bad name.” Prabhupada, who had previously tolerated the professor’s insults,
upon hearing the undue criticism of his disciple, replied back sharply, “He
is fanatic, or you are fanatic”? The tense mood continued for some time, but
amazingly by the end of the conversation Prabhupada and the professor became
friends and he went away with a favorable impression, not only of Prabhupada
but of ISKCON as well.
