Gleecap: "Hold on to Sixteen." Or, if you're Finn, to 29.
Sam's back! Quinn's evil! Or not! There's a big competition … Sesqicentsectionals!
:01 — I keep any of these competitions straight anymore. Sectionals, regionals, internorwegianals.
:02 – Finn on trying to find Sam: "Even homeless people have Facebook."
:02 – Why is slimy Sebastian a recurring character? P.S. Now that I've identified Blaine's perfectly triangular eyebrows, I can't stop noticing them.
:03 – HA. Kurt on slimy Sebastian: "I don't like the way you talk to my boyfriend. I don't like y...
Hey, everybody, it’s an “Attachments” deleted scene!
So, I was just talking to my friend Bethany about how our favorite Star Trek: The Next Generation character is Data …
And I was reminded that there was a Data scene in Attachments that ended up on the cutting room floor. I really liked this bit and can’t remember why I cut it … I think there was some concern that the Beth/Jennifer emails just went on and on.I liked writing them so much that I literally felt like I could make every email conversation go on forever.
So I cut some conversations —...

Gleecap: Everybody goes all the way, and I long for Pacey Witter.
Look, another Gleecap! So what if it's three weeks after the show aired — I am on back on the horse, people. Back on the mamma-jammin horse.
(I keep thinking of dirty segues from that line to the next one …)
So I decided to skip past a lot of other episodes that I missed this season to get right to the much ballyhooed FIRST TIME episode — in which Finn and Rachel finally do it. I feel like Fox promoted this episode as if the nation was crying out for Finn and Rachel to do it … Not so much in...

"Glee" in New York. From a compulsive recapper.
I haven't been recapping Glee this season because I haven't been watching it. (And vice versa. I think I stopped watching it because I wasn't writing recaps anymore.)
But today I've been catching up, and I realized that I can't watch Glee without taking notes. So, without further ado, bite-sized throwback Gleecap!
THE NEW YORK EPISODE
Do you remember this one? They went to New York for Nationals, and they wrote their own songs, and they were terrible, and then Rachel and Finn got back...

FLASHBACK: When Barbie and Ken broke up.
In today's World-Herald, I have a strange, slurred conversation with Sweet Talkin' Ken, the doll that finally won Barbie's heart back after a seven-year breakup.
You can read that column here.
It reminded me that I wrote a column about Barbie and Ken back when they broke up in 2004. It's one of my favorite things that I've written. (Not necessarily the best. Just one of my favorites.) This ran on Dec. 13, 2004:
Mattel says Barbie and Ken are still friends. Don't believe it.
The toy company...

I went to see "Breaking Dawn," and it burned my lizard brain.
I just got home from seeing Breaking Dawn: Part I …
Well, I just got home three hours ago, and now it's one in the morning, and I'm still not over it.
IT'S LIKE I CAN'T GET IT OFF MY EYES.
I can't decide if no one should ever see this movie, if it should be hermetically sealed and shot into space, or if everyone should see this movie, if for no other reason than to BEAR WITNESS.
Pardon the caps lock – and get used to it – because every time I start thinking about Breaking Dawn, IT TURNS INTO...

Skunk Scouts of America
Ever since our 7-year-old started Cub Scouts last year, our 4-year-old has been desperately jealous of the uniform.
(Maybe it's in the DNA? My husband, Kai, was one of those super-cool ROTC guys in high school.)
The 4YO would wear his brother's Cub Scout hat around the house, he'd tell people that he was a "kitty scout" and start meow-ing … He'd hide his face and cry whenever his brother started getting ready for Cub Scout meetings.
So last week, Kai took pity on him and made this Skunk Scout...
Happy bento-versary.
My husband and I celebrated our 13th anniversary this month, and this was my gift from him:
An empty bento box.
If you know us (or know me on Facebook), you know that Kai makes crazy, phenomenal bento box art lunches for our second grader.
Here are some of my favorites …
So when I saw this, I flipped. He very quickly told me that he was just worried that I wasn't getting enough protein when I write at Starbucks for eight hours, and that I shouldn't expect awesome bento snacks, but I can still...
What's up with my next book?
The best thing people can say to me after reading Attachments is, "Do you have any other books?"
"Yes!" I always say. And then I mumble, "One … but you can't read it for a year … Unless you live in the United Kingdom, do you live in the United Kingdom?"
Here's the deal:
I wrote my second book, called Eleanor & Park, as soon as I finished Attachments.
It's an East Omaha love story. Sort of like Juno plus Romeo & Juliet plus a few choice episodes of Dawson's Creek. Here's the official pitch:
