What’s this? ANOTHER “Attachments” deleted scene? Is it your birthday?

So, here’s another Attachments deleted scene. (Get more here and here.) I’m posting a few today to celebrate the book’s release in paperback.

This was the first page I ever wrote from Lincoln’s perspective — and it was the first page of the book until very late in the editing process. I eventually decided that it was better to dive right into Beth and Jennifer’s emails and get the concept of the book rolling immediately.

But I still really like this scene. It was hard to cut Lincoln’s mom strai...

It’s “Attachments” paperback release day! Celebrate with delicious deleted scenes . . .

To celebrate Attachments being released in paperback today — huzzah! — I thought I’d post a few deleted scenes from the book. There are a lot of deleted scenes. (Like this one. And this one.) My first draft was 140,000 words long. (!)

I eventually edited that down to about 85,000 . . .

Whywas the first draft so long? That is a really easy question to answer — because I had no idea what I was doing. I didn’t know how to write a book. I especially didn’t know how to end a book. Just when I should...

“Eleanor & Park,” live and in paper.

My first REAL copy of Eleanor & Park arrived today . . .

(This is the UK version, which goes on sale April 12.It’s coming out in the U.S., too, but not until January or February 2013. If you’re in the U.S. and don’t want to wait, you can order it from amazon.co.uk and have it shipped here, all for about $30.)

I knew I’d be getting a copy of Eleanor & Parksoon, of course, but it was still a surprise to slide it out of the envelope. More than a surprise — it took my breath away for a second.

My mom reviews “Phantom Menace.”

Today at the Indian buffet, my mom gave us an hourlong critique ofThe Phantom Menace, which she watched for the first time last night.

At some point, I started livetweeting this review, but my thumbs could only move so fast. Here, for posterity, are the highlights:

Liam, what’s his name, Nielsen? I felt sorry for him actually. He could have been in one of the first three movies. And the guy who played Obi-Wan, he’s a good actor, but I didn’t like his hair. I couldn’t stop looking at his hair.

Re-entry — Back to life after finishing Book 3.

So, I just sent my third book to my agent. I suspect that it's a giant mess … (except for the moments when I think it's the BEST THING I'VE WRITTEN EVER).

It's not even a book, really. At this stage, when it's just an unedited lump of lumps, people in publishing call it a manuscript or an MS. When I first got an agent, it was unnerving because he was always asking, "How's your MS?" And I'd think, "Relapsing and remitting, thanks." And then I'd feel bad for making a multiple sclerosis joke...

Harry Potter gingerbread cookies.

Until my husband restarts his blog, I'm just going to keep sharing his awesome creations here.

This week? Harry Potter gingerbread. Here are a few photos of the cookies in progress … (A few of these are blurry because I refuse to use the flash.)

Funny that all it takes to identify Draco is a smirk and a widow's peak …

I didn't realize Kai was going to color them in … I call this next shot "Where's Colin Creevey?"

Finally, the finished product — Colin and Dumbledore.

Dracookie and Harry...
