AT&T Workers on Strike in Valley
Striking AT&T workers are asking the public to join them on the picket line in Hadley, Massachusetts. Hadley borders Northampton and Amherst. The picket line will happen on May 21, starting at 11 a.m. and ending at 5 p.m. It will be at 359 Russell Street.

Celebration is May 19
On May 19 in Keene, there will be a celebration of the opening of a pedestrian/bicycle bridge that activists have worked for two decades to make happen. The bridge crosses Route 101, about 500 feet southeast of the Walmart. It's known as South Bridge. The below photos show another pedestrian/bicycle bridge in Keene – North Bridge – that looks almost exactly like the new one.

Photos: River Overflows Its Banks
These photos were taken on May 14. They show the Connecticut river overflowing its banks at the 724 acre Arcadia Wildlife Sanctuary. The sanctuary is in Northampton and Easthampton. In the second photo (lower left) two swallows can be seen catching flying insects. Most of the birds' diet consists of flies. Workers Unite
Workers at a factory in Greenfield are asking the public to join them on the picket line on May 11 at 2 p.m. “What the company is trying to impose is going to hurt people,” Shawn Coates told the Valley Post. He has worked at the factory for 28 years. The workers have a union, which has a web site at www.UEunion.org. Amtrak Getting Faster Between Valley and NYC
In January, Amtrak will get at least 35 minutes faster between the Valley and New York City. This victory is the result of the work of environmental activists. Traveling by train rather than by car is better for the environment, and safer.
