The 200 or so nurses at the Greenfield hospital will go on strike on June 26 unless management agrees to stop assigning so many patients to each nurse that it is impossible to provide good quality health care. The nurses want the hospital to hire more nurses. The nurses also want better health insurance for themselves.

CJ Chenier Concert is July 8

CJ Chenier and the Red Hot Louisiana Band will perform in Northampton on July 8 at 7 p.m. CJ Chenier was born in 1957. According to his web site, he “spent his childhood in the tough tenement housing projects of Port Arthur, Texas.” Chenier played with Ringo Starr on Paul Simon's album Rhythm of the Saints. Teachers, Healthcare Activists Fight Back

In Northampton on June 4, dozens of people protested a plan by President Trump and the Republican-controlled congress to eliminate health insurance for poor people. The activists staged a so-called “die in” to bring attention to the fact that thousands of people will die if the Republicans' plan is approved.

This photo was taken on June 3 in Northampton. It shows hundreds of people marching, led by Debby Pastrich-Klemer (in blue shoes) and three other women. Pastrich-Klemer organized the march, which was sponsored by a group that has a web site at www.IndivisibleNoho.com. The most common signs at the march seemed to be the ones that said, "Dump Trump!" March for Truth About Trump

On June 3 in Northampton, there will be a march calling on President Trump to release his tax returns, and demanding that Congress investigate collusion between Russia and Trump to help him get elected.

“It is part of a nation-wide march demanding the truth,” Debby Pastrich-Klemer told the Valley Post. She is organizing the Northampton march. It will start at 11 a.m. at 2 Parsons Street. Fifty people had RSVP'd on Facebook as of May 31. More information is at:

Photo: Activists Fight an Eviction

On May 25, activists gathered at 2163 Wilbraham Road in Springfield to try to stop a multi-billion dollar bank from evicting a low-income family from the home at that address where they have lived for 20 years.

AT&T Workers on Strike in Valley

Striking AT&T workers are asking the public to join them on the picket line in Hadley, Massachusetts. Hadley borders Northampton and Amherst. The picket line will happen on May 21, starting at 11 a.m. and ending at 5 p.m. It will be at 359 Russell Street.
