Peace Rallies Set for Brattleboro, Northampton

On April 15 in Brattleboro, and on April 16 in Northampton, there will be rallies for peace. The rallies are to cut the nation’s military budget. Almost half of this year's entire federal budget of $2.9 trillion is being spent on war. That’s according to:

People at the rallies will also call on the government to raise taxes on the rich and use the money to help the poor, through programs like better public transportation...

Alchemystics to Perform on May 10 in Northampton

Local reggae band the Alchemystics will perform on May 10 at the Iron Horse Music Hall in Northampton. The band sounds like a mixture of Bob Marley and Michael Franti and Spearhead. The Alchemystics played an outstanding, sold-out concert at the Arts Block in Greenfield in 2011. Almost everyone at the concert danced.

A video of the Alchemystics performing is at

In the video, the sound quality is good; the image quality is literally shaky.

Keene Photos: New Bike/Ped Bridge, New Food Co-op

These photos were taken on March 18 in Keene. The first two photos show a bicycle- and pedestrian-only bridge that opened in autumn 2012 near the corner of West Street and Route 9. It was funded by government programs that exist because of the advocacy of grassroots group like the Bike-Walk Alliance of New Hampshire: www.bwaNH.org. Similar groups exist in Massachusetts and Vermont. They have web sites at www.MassBike.org and www.VtBikePed.org.
