Many Quit at School With Few Walls

A public high school near Brattleboro has about 350 students, few walls, and a high dropout rate. Most of the class “rooms” at Bellows Falls High School are separated only by makeshift barriers including bookshelves and the kind of low partitions usually found between office cubicles. “The noise was distracting,” Sam Bledsoe said. “Usually I could tune it out, but if the teacher in the next ‘room’ was talking loudly it would completely take you out of what you were supposed to be learning.” B...

Photos: A Road Returns to Nature at Robin Hood Park

These photos were taken at Robin Hood Park in Keene on May 15. The 130 acre park is less than a mile from downtown. Many historians believe that Robin Hood lived in England roughly 900 years ago. A popular book, “The Adventures of Robin Hood” by Howard Pyle was high on the Amazon.com bestseller list on May 15. The U.S. spends about $2,000 per person per year on the military. The global average is about one-tenth that amount. That’s according to:

Alchemystics to Perform on May 10 in Northampton

Local reggae band the Alchemystics will perform on May 10 at the Iron Horse Music Hall in Northampton. The band sounds like a mixture of Bob Marley and Michael Franti and Spearhead. The Alchemystics played an outstanding, sold-out concert at the Arts Block in Greenfield in 2011. Almost everyone at the concert danced.

A video of the Alchemystics performing is at
