Springfield Man Free After Years in Prison for Crime He Didn’t Commit
A young African American man from Springfield could have spent the rest of his life in prison for a murder in Springfield that he did not commit. Instead, Charles Wilhite was freed on January 17 after a jury trial. He spent 40 months in prison for a crime he did not do. Last year in Springfield, about 500 people attended a rally to free Wilhite, according to his aunt, Viraphanh Douangmany of Amherst. The rally was organized by a group she founded: www.JusticeForCharles.org.

Indigo Girls Concert Is March 1 in Northampton
Amy Ray and Emily Saliers founded the the Grammy Award-winning band the Indigo Girls. They will play at the Calvin Theater in Northampton on March 1. They have earned a reputation for outstanding concerts. Ray and Saliers founded, with Native American activist Wynona LaDuke, Honor the Earth, an environmental group: www.honorearth.org.
Other winners of Grammy Awards include U2 and Bob Dylan. The March 1 concert starts at 8 p.m. Tickets are available from www.iheg.com.

A New Way to Save Money and the Planet
New technology lets people insulate and seal leaks in homes and other buildings cheaply. An infrared video camera with a portable screen attached lets anyone see cold air entering a building through cracks and gaps, while a fan creates negative pressure inside the building.
