Who are Your Favorite Authors?

Tom Clancy is a master at bringing multiple parallel plot lines together to form a crescendo. Stephen King’s pacing is brilliant. He can keep the reader engaged for 600 pages while subtly setting the stage for the upcoming action. Michael Crichton communicates complex technical information to readers with no technical background. He does this with little to no exposition, but through dialogue. Pat Conroy may be the most eloquent writer of modern times.

Review of The Unity Game

The Unity GameThe Unity Game by Leonora Meriel

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Deeply Philosophical Science Fiction

This is one the most creative books I’ve ever read!

David is a New York banker whose life is spinning out of control. Alisdair is an attorney who just entered a beautifully conceptualized afterlife. Noœ-bouk is a genderless, telepathic alien trying to extend its life through space exploration.

The author gradually and expertly interlaces these three stories until they converge in a deeply meaningful and thought provoking climax.

I highly recommend The Unity Game to fans of both science fiction and philosophy.

5 Star Review of Execution of Justice

5.0 out of 5 stars  Real Page-turner!

By M. Reese on August 26, 2017

Format: Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase

A great action-packed read! While growing up with a controlling and abusive father, John Drake is involved in an unfortunate encounter that changes the direction of his life. Required to serve time in the military, he was soon offered a special op’s position that he could not refuse. Teamed with one of his comrades, the two are assigned to a rescue mission that takes them to Morocco where they are involved in several very intense situations.

This is a good read for anyone who likes military action stories.

The Mons Connection – Review

The Mons ConnectionThe Mons Connection by Janine R. Pestel

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Great Story! Well Researched, Hard Core Science Fiction

This is a great novella with a lot of research behind it. I especially liked Pestel’s descriptions of the technical details of space flight and what it would feel like to walk on Mars. She even nailed the slightly different sentence structure Russians use when speaking English. I’m going on about the research Pestel put into this work because that is exactly what I’m looking for in science fiction.

It’s a great story with a highly satisfying ending. I will definitely be reading more of Pestel’s work!

Review of Whole New World[s]

Whole New World[s] (The Parallel Universe Adventures Book 1)Whole New World[s] by Pam Bloom

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Eleven-year-old Ethan has had a difficult life that most of us can relate to. Then, he finds a strange amulet on the beach that allows him to shift dimensions. This lets him see all the possible permutations his life could have taken.

The central message I get from this book reminds me of Candide. He ultimately learns that the life he hates so much is actually the best of all possible worlds.

Although written for ages ten and above, Whole New World resonated with this fifty-two year old man. All the bad things that happen to us create the lives we have and the people we are.

I read this entire book today. I kept transferring it from one Kindle device to another. My lawn didn’t get mowed. It flows smoothly, reads easily, and contains a deep message. It’s an easy, entertaining, engrossing read, reminiscent of J.K. Rowling’s first book.

Book Reviews

An Excellent Book Review Site

Not only is writing my outlet, but reading is another way I can turn off my mind and be transported into a completely different world. I read every night before I go to sleep as a way to wind down and stop thinking about the lists of things I need to do the following day. It helps me relax. This week I thought I would share some of the books I’ve read over the past few months and rated 5 stars. I really enjoyed reading them and believe you’ll enjoy them too.

Cradle of the Gods (The Soulstone Prophecy, #1)

I really enjoyed reading Cradle of the Gods, and following Ghile’s story as he discovered who he is and who he is to become.
With a Lord of the Ring’s feel, it’s set in a world where dwarves rule over humans, killing any who show signs of being a…

5 Star Review of Execution of Justice

5.0 out of 5 stars  Execution of Justice is a worthwhile read that will easily hold your interest

By Chase A. Thompson on September 5, 2017

Format: Kindle Edition

Patrick Dent has crafted a fast-paced, pulse-pounding and action packed novel in his “Execution of Justice.” The characters are quite believable, and the dialog is crisp and compelling. John’s interactions with his father, “The John,” was equal parts fascinating and eviscerating to read – very gut wrenching, and yet too interesting to look away. In their relationship, Dent demonstrates an effective ability to jar the reader and bring out a deep emotional response. Execution of Justice is a worthwhile read that will easily hold your interest. Check it out!

What is the Name of Your First Book and What Inspired It?

Execution of Justice is my first published book. When I served in the military, I once had an extensive conversation with a schizophrenic veteran who believed he was a secret assassin. This chat provided the initial spark. I have always struggled with the source of one’s identity. So many conflicting forces act on a person from within and without. That inspired me to create John Drake, a deeply complex protagonist struggling to discover himself under conditions of extreme distress.

Other authors, please feel free to post your answers to this question on Facebook or Twitter.

Review of Reflections

Reflections (Kindle edition)Reflections by Clifton Kenny

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Fascinating Romp Through History and Biology!
Reflections is a multi-genre book. It’s a coming of age tale meets historical fiction meets paranormal. Shane is an eighth grader in 1974 Boston who can see into people’s genetic memories and even converse with their ancestors. This is a clever twist on communicating with the dead. The author even provides several plausible explanations, ranging from scientific to religious.
Clifton Kenny demonstrates extensive knowledge of his subject matter, and an experienced teacher’s ability to make both biochemistry and history interesting to the average reader. The characters are well developed. The dialogue comes across as very natural for a group of teenage friends on a quest to find answers.
This is an excellent young adult novel with a much broader appeal to anyone with an interest in the human genome, history, paranormal abilities, or simply a good read. I expect Shane’s search for the ultimate truth to span several more installments.
