SEP has a lot on her mind

Dear Friends,
This is what's currently on my mind that doesn't relate to the Corona-word.
• Is it fair that Mr. Bill is a much better speller than I am? (No, it is not. Back me up on this.)

• When “Envy” apples are on sale, buy them. (Trust me.)

• Was it wrong to binge the fabulous Bridgerton in two days when I should have been writing? (Note to self: Send rude message to Julia Quinn. It's all her fault.)

• Milk chocolate beats dark chocolate hands down. No hate mail. It'll make me “bitter.” (Har-Har)

• If you own a good set of binoculars, is it okay to spy on your neighbors? (Never mind. I know how judgy you all are.) ☺

Dance Away with Me by Susan Elizabeth Phillips Now Available in Paperback!
AND... There are readers who still haven't read DANCE AWAY WITH ME, which is out NOW (This very day) in MASS MARKET PAPERBACK. I love writing rom coms, but I also love immersing myself in larger books, ones with heart, humor, big conflicts, and characters to cheer for: midwife Tess; troubled artist, Ian; baby Wren; and the gang at the Broken Chimney coffee shop. DANCE AWAY WITH ME also has the Best Ending Ever!
SEP: Nice modesty, Susan.
SEP: Well, it is the Best Ending Ever.
SEP: In your opinion.
SEP: In a lot of readers' opinions, now shut up about it.
SEP: Rude. So rude.

When Stars Collide A Chicago Stars Novel by Susan Elizabeth Phillips Coming June 29, 2021!
And speaking of Rom Coms—The Chicago Stars are taking the field once again in my new book, WHEN STARS COLLIDE! (June 29, 2021) You are going to love meeting The Diva and The Quarterback. Yep, I saw from the beginning how this would unfold for them. One high strung, superstar opera singer and one slightly run down Chicago Stars quarterback. You can PREORDER right here. And just so you know, this book is hysterical!
SEP: There you go again.
SEP: Well, it is!
SEP: Only to readers with a sense of humor.
SEP: Go away and bother Julia Quinn. I have a grudge against her anyway. (See previous reference to how much Bridgerton interfered with my writing time.)

Oh, and one more thing... In case you missed it, here are the links you need to order the mass market edition of DANCE AWAY WITH ME and preorder the hysterical—there, I said it—WHEN STARS COLLIDE.
Thanks for being such faithful readers!

Books and Best Laid Plans

Dear Readers,
Mr. Bill and I planned to be in Southern California for 8 weeks during the worst of our Chicago Winter. #Sissies

Thanks to a certain 'unforeseen circumstance,' and you know exactly what I mean, we were gone almost five months. Our neighbors met us with beautiful sidewalk art when we returned home. We love our neighbors!

And also waiting for me when we got home, DANCE AWAY WITH ME made the New York Times and USA Today bestsellers lists!

Your enthusiasm for DANCE AWAY WITH ME has meant everything to me—the way you've embraced Tess and Ian, Wren and Heather, Phish and Savannah, Rachel and Eli, Diane and Jeff, Kelly and what's-his-name has warmed my heart. In case you missed it, here's a sneak peek. https://susanelizabethphillips.com/ex...

DANCE AWAY WITH ME is a deeply emotional book, but no matter what book I write, whether a stand alone; a Wynette, Texas book; or a Chicago Stars book, I will always give you exactly what I want in the books I read, a happy ending.

Thank you for going on this journey with me!

SEP Interviews Herself

SEP Interviews Herself
Susan Elizabeth Phillips SEP: Hey, SEP. It’s lovely to talk to you.
SEP: Go away. You’re weird.

SEP: You’re being a little hostile, don’t you think?
SEP: Sorry. Pandemic manners. I’ve forgotten how to be around people.

SEP: I understand. Please update us on what you’re doing.
SEP: Drying up old paint for safe disposal. It involves lots of kitty litter.

SEP: That wasn’t the answer I was anticipating.
SEP: You thought I’d be lying on a chaise wearing a pink negligee and writing breathless prose with a feathered plume?

SEP: There’s no need for sarcasm. And I happen to know Mr. Bill would faint dead on top of his golf clubs if he saw you in anything other than one of your ratty nightshirts.
SEP: You’re a bigmouth blabber!

SEP: Now, now… So what else have you been doing other than playing around with deceptive Instagram filters that wipe out every line on your face and don’t look anything like you?
SEP: Hey, if it’s good enough for the Kardashians….

SEP: You look weird.
SEP: I’m telling Mom you’re name-calling!

Dance Away with Me by Susan Elizabeth Phillips SEP: [Long sigh...]
SEP: [begrudgingly] Oh, okay… What I’m doing now is making sure everyone who hasn’t already read DANCE AWAY WITH ME will pick up a copy—either at the library, in their favorite bookstore, or on-line.

SEP: I loved that book.
SEP: One of my favorites. I’m a sucker for these characters.

SEP: Tess is so broken at the beginning. And so strong, even though she doesn’t recognize it.
SEP: And then there’s Ian Hamilton North, IV. I admit I kind of lust after him?

SEP: Only ‘kind of’?
SEP: Don’t make me look bad. There’s nothing like watching a difficult man fight so hard to keep from falling in love with a woman who has a grudge against him.

SEP: For once, we agree. You seem to have a second career these days interviewing other authors, musicians, publishing big shots, and some fascinating girlfriends on Facebook and Instagram Live. Assistant Sharon even set up a YouTube channel where readers can find interviews they missed. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCbgu...
SEP: Everybody needs her own YouTube channel, right? And I have lots more surprises planned. There’s nothing I love more than having a camera pointed in my face.

SEP: We KNOW! Am I the only one who thinks that some of your questions are a little intrusive?
SEP: I ask the questions other interviewers fear to ask. That’s why I’m an award-winning journalist.

SEP: You are NOT an award-winning journalist!
SEP: [sulking] Says you.

SEP: Ignore her, everyone. She’s in one of her moods. In the meantime, if you haven’t yet read DANCE AWAY WITH ME, here’s a Sneak Peek.https://susanelizabethphillips.com/da... And be sure to follow her on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/SEPauthor/ and Facebook https://www.facebook.com/SusanElizabe... (even though she posts a lot of foolishness.)

Happy Reading to All,

Mr. Bill fails me!

Dear Readers,
As some of you know, Mr. Bill and I have been married for about 100 years, but we've recently gone through a rough patch. Because...
He couldn't come up with a decent title for my new book!

In the past he's been responsible for titles like MATCH ME IF YOU CAN and FIRST STAR I SEE TONIGHT. So was I really all that out-of-line demanding he come up with a title for my newest book? A book that I absolutely love because of the thousands of ways it has touched my heart and, I hope, will touch yours, too. A book that is not part of a series because, as you know, I generally tend to alternate stand alone books and series books, and BECAUSE, as much as you say you want another Wynette, Texas, or Chicago Stars book, so many of my stand alone books are your favorites. (Reminder: KISS AN ANGEL, AIN'T SHE SWEET?, BREATHING ROOM, HEROES ARE MY WEAKNESS, etc. etc.)

Anyway, it was down to the wire. The only title I'd come up with, The Runaways, had been rejected by my cold-hearted publisher. Okay, so maybe they were right. Yes, it fit the book, but it has been used way too much and was guaranteed to cause all kinds of confusion. Back to the drawing board.

I have no title, it's August, and I need one now. Our family is gathered in Saugatuck, Michigan, for a few days of family vacation.

It's late. I brought up the title problem and also said that Editor Carrie liked the word “dance.” That unleashed the hounds of hell! My idiot family came up with the lamest “dance” titles you've ever heard, but eight-year-old granddaughter Punkin' saved the day with an interpretive dance to the title she insisted was the best of all, Dance, Baby Shark, Dance. (Try explaining copyright infringement to an eight-year-old.)

I go to bed depressed, but just as I'm getting ready to turn off my electronics, my phone beeps. It's my bonus daughter-in-law texting me from downstairs.

Her text message is only four words.
Dance Away With Me

Perfect for my heroine who has so many troubles she needs to dance away from. So perfect for my difficult hero who doesn't appreciate the heroine's musical activities interrupting the Tennessee mountain nighttime quiet.

First thing next morning, I texted Editor Carrie. In response, I received a string of heart emojis.
❤ ❤ ❤ ❤

And so, dear readers, I'm thrilled to announce that my new book, DANCE AWAY WITH ME, will be available June 9, 2020, and is ready for pre-order now. https://susanelizabethphillips.com/da... What's it about? I will be telling you much, much more between now and next June. In the meantime, be sure to follow me on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/SusanElizabe... and Instagram https://instagram.com/SEPauthor/ for more juicy details. (Cover coming soon!)

One last thing... I'm doing a Super Colossal Mega Contest with my fellow witches Christina Dodd and Jayne Ann Krentz! Don't we look adorable?! Enter for a chance to win three autographed hardcovers AND a $50 B&N gift card. I'm getting all cauldron-flushed just thinking about it! Enter here. http://bit.ly/31V5xMm (Contest ends Oct. 31, 2019)

Happy reading,

HOT SHOT $1.99 SALE

Hot Shot by Susan Elizabeth Phillips
Dear Readers,
A quick note because I can’t let you miss a bargain. HOT SHOT, one of my early books and a true fan-favorite, is on sale for the first time ever! Right now, the e-book is only $1.99 for readers in the U.S., Canada, UK, Australia, and India. (Readers in other countries, I’m so sorry but regulations prohibit me from running this sale where you live. Not fair!)

As a cool San Francisco socialite, Susannah Faulconer knew exactly how to behave, but now she’s a lone woman trying to find her way in a world of powerful men where there’s no etiquette book that can teach her how to survive.

HOT SHOT is a sweeping love story, the kind of book I most enjoy reading and writing. Read what readers have to say about HOT SHOT in their 5-Star reviews:

“This book made me…laugh my head off and then cry on the next page!”—Ribbon

“I read the book over two days. I had a hard time sleeping during the first night, because I was anxious to know what would happen.”—Jane

“SEP really took us into another dimension with this one. The characters in this book were rich, complex and oh so endearing.”—Candice

“Such an amazing story!! I love how we get to watch the heroine grow into a spectacular woman, and such an interesting plot too.”— Katie B

“I was completely carried away into the world she created. It seemed much more realistic than most I've read and as a result I found myself still thinking about it long after I finished the book.”— Grottoes

If HOT SHOT sounds like something you’d enjoy, order your $1.99 e-book today! Sale ends August 31, 2019.
Happy Reading,

Susan Elizabeth Phillips

Off to Bear Camp in Alaska

First Star I See Tonight by Susan Elizabeth Phillips
Dear Friends,

For many years now, my friend Helen and I have been leaving our husbands behind and taking off on our own worldwide adventures. We've walked barefoot on a freezing October day across a French tidal flat pocked with quicksand, me whining about being cold the whole time. We've climbed way too much of the Inca Trail in Peru, me whining about dying. And we've eaten fermented shark in Iceland. (I don't mean to be culturally insensitive, but the grossest thing I've ever tasted in one of the world's most beautiful countries.)

Now we're taking off again—this time to a bear camp in Alaska, where I can only imagine how much whining I'm going to do, but only if I'm not eaten alive! Since we're both big readers, we'll, of course, be taking books with us. Unfortunately, we won't be taking the paperback release of my (cough, cough) #1 New York Times bestseller FIRST STAR I SEE TONIGHT because we've both read it.

If you haven't read it, the paperback edition is now available—but you must have a good sense of humor (First requirement!) and enjoy a great love story—if I do say so myself, which I kinda do. I think you're going to have a ball meeting Cooper Graham and Piper Dove. http://susanelizabethphillips.com/fir...

He's the former quarterback of the Chicago Stars football team.
She's trying to make a success of her very own detective agency.
Her first job? Follow him.
Let's just say it's not going well.
Not well at all....

Fingers crossed and assuming very friendly bears, I'll be in touch at the end of the month. Until then...

Happy reading! Susan Elizabeth Phillips

First Star I See Tonight by Susan Elizabeth Phillips First Star I See Tonight

Susan Elizabeth Phillips Susan Elizabeth Phillips

A no-nonsense sports hero and a feisty female detective go head-to-head in this funny, fresh, seductive novel from the award winning NYT bestselling author known for her unforgettable characters, heartfelt emotion, and laugh out loud humor.
He’s the former quarterback of the Chicago Stars football team.
She’s trying to make a success of her very own detective agency.
Her first job? Follow him.
Let’s just say it’s not going well.
Not well at all….
Piper Dove is a woman with a dream—to become the best detective in the city of Chicago. First job? Trail former Chicago Stars quarterback, Cooper Graham. The problem? Graham’s spotted her, and he’s not happy.Which is why a great detective needs a first rate imagination. “The fact is . . . I’m your stalker. Not full-out barmy. Just . . . mildly unhinged.”Piper soon finds herself working for Graham himself, although not as the bodyguard he refuses to admit he so desperately needs. Instead, he’s hired her to keep an eye on the employees at his exclusive new nightclub. But Coop’s life might be in danger, and Piper’s determined to protect him, whether he wants it or not. (Hint: Not!) If only she weren’t also dealing with a bevy of Middle Eastern princesses, a Pakistani servant girl yearning for freedom, a teenager who just wants to fit in, and an elderly neighbor demanding that Piper find her very dead husband.

And then there’s Cooper Graham, a legendary sports hero who always gets what he wants—even if what he wants just might be an intrepid detective hell bent on proving she’s as tough as he is.

From the bustling streets of Chicago to a windswept lighthouse on Lake Superior to the glistening waters of Biscayne Bay, two people who can’t stand to lose will test themselves and each other to discover what matters most.

Susan Elizabeth Phillips
First Star I See Tonight

FIRST STAR I SEE TONIGHT is on sale today! You can order right here http://susanelizabethphillips.com/fir...
To celebrate, I'm interviewing myself. Who knows me better, right? Are you ready? [Clears throat...]

SEP: Am I mistaken? Didn't you say that NATURAL BORN CHARMER would be the last of your Chicago Stars books? But now, there's a new one?
SEP: Have you not yet figured out that I'm totally unreliable?

SEP: Well, yes, I do know that about you, so what happened? How did we get another Stars book?
SEP: Life. The changing of the seasons. The vastness of the universe.

SEP: Could you be a little more specific?
SEP: [Sigh] After setting HEROES ARE MY WEAKNESS—

SEP: I loved that book!
SEP: You have excellent taste. Anyway...After setting HEROES ARE MY WEAKNESS on a remote island off the coast of Maine, I was ready to write a big city book. And big city to me means—

SEP: Chicago.
SEP: Stop interrupting. Yes, Chicago. I've wanted to write a heroine like Piper Dove for a long time—a woman who can shoot, is proficient at martial arts, and is trained in both offensive and defensive driving. All the things I can't do.

SEP: Not quite true. You're very good at offensive driving. Emphasis on the offen—
SEP: You're interrupting again....

SEP: You were saying?
SEP: Piper Dove is the owner of a brand-new detective agency. Her entire future depends on her first big assignment—follow Cooper Graham, the recently retired—and highly competitive—quarterback of the Chicago Stars.

SEP: Knowing how much you love stirring things up, I'm guessing that doesn't go well.
SEP: You are so right. And it gets even worse when it becomes blindingly clear to Piper that Graham needs a bodyguard.

SEP: Uh-Oh.
SEP: Exactly. No way is a macho character like Graham going along with having a bodyguard, especially a female one.

SEP: Are you worried that newer readers will be afraid to pick up FIRST STAR I SEE TONIGHT because they haven't read the other books in the series?
SEP: [Body-wracking shudder] My worst nightmare. This book is completely free standing.

SEP: Are you saying none of the Chicago Stars characters we've come to love will be appearing in FIRST STAR I SEE TONIGHT?
SEP: Wrong. You'll see Heath Champion again, from MATCH ME IF YOU CAN, as well as a few other familiar faces. But those characters' stories are complete in their own books. FIRST STAR I SEE TONIGHT requires NO ADVANCED READING! NONE!

SEP: Stop yelling. We heard you. Sheesh! Now, Susan, you're known for your subplots. I'm assuming...?
SEP: You're assuming correctly. We'll be meeting a bevy of Middle Eastern princesses, a Pakistani servant girl yearning for freedom, a Chicago teenager who only wants to fit in, and an elderly neighbor demanding that Piper find her very dead husband.

SEP: I have to say that sounds amazing. [Pause] Super funny and incredibly sexy. [Longer pause] Absolutely phenomenal! [Shouting] I can't wait to read it!
SEP: You're pushing it. You wrote the book, remember?

SEP: Work with me. Now before you run off and do whatever it is you do, tell us what you're working on next. You know we're all insanely curious.
SEP: And you'll have to stay that way because I'm not ready to talk about it yet.

SEP: Seriously? You, Miss SEP Blab Everything To The World are going all quiet and mysterious on us?
SEP:A new persona. Now how about tending to business and reminding readers how much they're going to love FIRST STAR I SEE TONIGHT? Except for up-tight, humorless sourpuss readers. They'll hate it.

SEP: [Dryly] You do know how to sell a book.
SEP: Gotta go. Oprah's on the phone.

SEP: Seriously?
SEP: [Snorts] Of course not. FIRST STAR I SEE TONIGHT is many things, but "depressing" is not one of them.

SEP: Silly me.

Order right here—Unless, of course, you're an up-tight, humorless sourpuss. ☺ (If your budget is really tight, head for your local library. We love libraries.) AND...Come to see me on the FIRST STAR Book Tour! Best one yet!

Happy Reading,

Susan Elizabeth Phillips
