Techniques to Create More Joy, Happiness and Success in 2017

I love to spend this time of year dreaming about what I want to create in my life NEXT year. Intuition is like our inner GPS. When we figure out where we want to go, intuition will guide us to the next right steps! Following are my favorite techniques to create more joy, happiness and success by partnering with my intuition.

Not Sure Just What You Want to Create Next Year?

Perhaps, like me, you feel a little vague about what you want to create.  I have a favorite tip for you. Close your eyes and put your hand over your heart and take a deep centering breath. (This gets you out of your logical brain.) Ask yourself the question, “What am I yearning for?” The answer(s) may surprise you. Allow the possibility that the response you receive may be a bit intangible. Answers I’ve received have been things like “more adventure,” “greater sense of community,” and “ease and calm.”

FEEL Yourself Having the Life You Want

Many Law of Attraction teachers put a lot of emphasis on visualizing the results you want. They’re not wrong. However, there’s a great deal of power in allowing yourself to FEEL that ideal life you want. This next thing will sound weird, I admit! I talk to myself (in my mind, not out loud) when I do my morning visualizing. Here’s a recent example. “I’m really enjoying this Viking River Cruise. I’m so lucky that I get to have a wonderful luxury vacation like this. It’s magnificent sitting on the balcony of my stateroom watching all this beauty on the river.” I just go on an on as if I’m there and enjoying the actual cruise. I then let go of HOW this visualization will manifest but I trust that it will at just the right time.

Surrender and Let Go

If there’s something that you’ve wanted for a long time and it just hasn’t happened (yet) you may need to surrender it to the Universe. Here’s a technique that I use. I think about the issue that I’m struggling with. Perhaps it’s an aspect of my business or a relationship or health challenge.  I sit down to meditate and imagine that I have wise beings around me. You can see them as angels, spirit guides or unseen helpers of any sort. Ask them for their advice and counsel. “I ask you for your insight on this issue.” I then imagine that this problem or concern is placed in a bubble of light in front of me. I see it being guided upwards and being released to the wisdom of the Universe. Over the next several weeks I pay special attention to any “aha” moments I have about this topic. I might be drawn to a book, a conversation or simply get an insight that assists me. The Universe wants you to succeed! All you have to do is ask!

Consider Getting an Intuitive Reading

Are you feeling stuck and need some extra insight? We all have times in our life like that! If that’s you, consider booking a session with me. I do half-hour and hour appointments, all by phone or Skype. If you’d like more information, check out my site at http://lynnrobinson.com/intuitive-readings/ My passion is helping people find their calling and purpose as well as providing practical tools and ideas for manifesting those dreams.

Trust Your Inner Wisdom

I can’t emphasize this one enough! Your intuition is always guiding you. We all have this powerful inner resource. There are many ways to receive its wisdom. Ask questions such as “What do I need to know about (this issue?)” Or, “What’s my right next step?” Ask for a dream or to be guided to the right person who will be able to help. Intuition communicates in whispers, knowings, physical sensations and images. Get to know this valuable resource. It’s your guide to a great 2017. . . in fact it’s a powerful guide for the rest of your life!

The Key to a Joy-Filled New Year

In all mbe-gratefuly years of doing intuitive readings I’ve observed that the people who enjoy the greatest happiness are not necessarily the wealthiest or the most famous. Those who sparkle with joy are most often ordinary people who have not lost their sense of wonder. They find a gift in each moment of living. They enjoy a few moments of pleasantries with their neighbor, marvel at the dew glistening on a flower petal, and take delight in a child’s giggles. They find a gift in each moment of their life.

I think one of the biggest misconceptions most of us have is that something has to change in order for us to be happy. Don’t get me wrong. I find it much easier to be happy when I have enough money, good health, great friends, and meaningful work.

It’s truly a paradox of life that when you’re happy, you begin to draw to yourself what you need in order to be happy. Joy is that extraordinary happiness that is independent of what is going on in our lives. You might think that more money and more material possessions make you happier. You’d be wrong. Researchers have discovered that once our basic needs are met, our happiness and quality of life depend most significantly on the quality of our personal relationships: with ourselves, our partner, family, friends, and community.

What Makes YOU Joyful?

The root of joy is The Key to a Joy-Filled New Year. You might notice that truly joyful people are grateful. I believe that their joy springs from gratefulness, not from their life circumstances. A person who has all the good luck in the world but takes it for granted doesn’t gain much joy from that good fortune. Ultimately we hold the key to a joy-filled and happy life within ourselves. It’s a heart focused on gratitude that makes us joyful.

Keep a Joy Journal

This is such a great time of year to look at not only where you’ve been but also where you want to go.

Here are some ideas to get your journal started:

• Think over the past year. What brought you the most joy?

• What are some activities you enjoy by yourself or with others?

• When you’re sad or depressed, what activities or thoughts make you feel better?

• What steps could you take in order to bring these activities into your life on a regular basis?

What you love to do, what you feel joyful and passionate about, is a sign from your higher self of what you’re meant to do. The poet Rumi wrote, “Let yourself be silently drawn by the strange pull of what you really love. It will not lead you astray.” I couldn’t have said it better myself!

23 Random Acts of Kindness – Ideas to Inspire Your Soul

heartcloud2I experienced an act of kindness many decades ago. It still brings tears to my eyes when I remember it. I had moved from Massachusetts, where I grew up, to begin a new job in upstate New York. My boyfriend at the time had broken up with me and I felt incredibly raw, vulnerable and depressed as I unpacked to move into the small apartment I had rented. The bleak looking frozen meal I had purchased for my dinner only added to my sense of loneliness. As I began to eat, I was startled to hear a knock on the door because I didn’t know anyone in my new location. When I opened the door a woman handed me a plate of freshly made cookies along with a piece of paper. She rapidly walked away simply saying “Call me!” I looked down at her scribbled note. Along with a phone number, it said “I know it’s scary to move into a new place. If you’d like to grab a cup of coffee or lunch sometime, call me. — Kate.”

That one small gesture made my despair transform into hope. It made me feel that perhaps I had made the right decision and that things would work out. I called her the next day, thanked her profusely and enjoyed her friendship for many years to come. We still keep in touch.

I often feel overwhelmed when I read or hear about the violence, fear and adversity in the world today. So many of us are struggling. We’re scared. We feel anxiety about what’s happening in the world or in our own little corner of the world specifically. I want to retreat and shut the door and hide behind the idea that there’s nothing I can do. However, I’ve come to realize that that’s a flawed belief for both myself AND you. I believe the world needs more people like Kate.

What can you do? What can you give? How can you be the one to change things? It doesn’t have to be big. In fact it can be a seemingly small thing like Kate’s note. To begin, try kindness, compassion, forgiveness, understanding, gentleness and love. There’s a wonderful song by singer/songwriter Jana Stanfield entitled “All the Good.” The opening lyrics are “I cannot do all the good that the world needs, but the world needs all the good I can do.”

I believe that love, compassion and kindness are a kind of GPS from your soul. It’s part of your inner guidance system. I’d like to suggest to you a new technique. Begin to make it a daily practice to ask yourself “What could I do to bring more love (kindness, calm, understanding) to the world today?”

Need some ideas to get you started? Try any one of these:

Send a card to someone who could use some cheering up.
Make an extra portion of your next meal and bring it to a neighbor or friend.
Smile at strangers on the street.
Volunteer to drive someone to their doctors appointment.
Teach someone how to read.
Offer babysitting services to someone who could use a break.
Offer a small gift (candle, book, card, inspirational quote) to a stranger.
Donate to Random Acts. They support random acts of kindness the world over.
Thank a police officer, firefighter, your child’s teacher or anyone else you can think of!
Give someone a hug.
Share your favorite skill or talent with someone.
Bring someone flowers (and buy some for yourself, too!)
Shovel a driveway, rake leaves, do some gardening.
Spend time really listening the next time you’re in a conversation.
Pray for someone. Pray for more love and kindness in the world.
Get to know someone from a different religion or ethnicity.
Buy some grocery store gift cards to give to the homeless.
Visit someone in the hospital or nursing home.
Volunteer at a non-profit that is aligned with your interests and skills.
Buy some toys for a family who doesn’t have any at the holidays.
Offer to pick up groceries for an elderly or ill neighbor.
Leave an extra tip for a favorite waiter or waitress.
Make some homemade gifts (cookies, scarves, art) and share them with others.

What are YOUR favorite ideas? Please add to my list. Has someone given something or done something for you that touched your heart? I’d love to hear about it!

In closing, I remember the statement from Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. —

“Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.”

5 New Ideas to Help You Get Moving Again

1) Don’t Wait for the Confidence Fairy!steppingstone

Your intuition is telling you it’s time for a change, but you feel scared and begin to doubt yourself. You’re not alone! Almost all us feel this anxiety before we do something new. It would be wonderful if there were such a thing as a “Confidence Fairy” who would sprinkle self-assurance and energy over you as you think about making a change in your life. Alas, the only way to gain that confidence is to begin to do the thing you’re scared to do! In other words, feel the fear and do it anyway!

2) Do Some Information Gathering

You may feel stuck because you’re trying to make a decision without enough information. Begin to move out of your comfort zone by checking out some options. For example, say you’re thinking about a job change, you could…hire a career coach, do some informational interviews, take a class that will broaden your skills or talk to someone who has made a similar life choice. What happens is that you’ll begin to feel more comfortable. New options and possibilities will present themselves and you can respond to them in a more positive frame of mind.

3) What Does Your Life Look Like When You’re Unstuck?

I recently attended a workshop with Rev. Michael Beckwith. He had a great line that he repeated several times, “Pain pushes until the vision pulls.” When you’re in a stuck place you’re in pain. You’re uncomfortable. Your Divine guidance is telling you that you need to move in a new direction. That pain is there to give you a kick in rear end! Simultaneously it’s also giving you a vision of what you’d like to have happen. If the above-mentioned fairy could wave a wand and tell you that you could have whatever you wished for, what would it be?

4) Be Brutally Honest With Yourself

I’d be willing to bet that when you read the last line in the paragraph above a vast majority of you had a little negative thought bubble appear over your head saying “But I DON’T KNOW what I want.” I’d like to challenge that thought. If you DID know what would you want? Contemplate that for a bit. Watch the other thoughts that emerge. If you’ve been feeling stuck for a while, you’ll likely discover that there’s a whole crowd of negative thoughts such as “I’m not good enough.” “I don’t have the money.” “I’m too old (young) etc.” Here’s where the honesty comes in. Do you want to argue in favor of your limitations or are you willing to make a choice to think bigger and challenge those thoughts?

5) Surrender and Ask for Guidance

I’m reading the book “Change Me Prayers” by Tosha Silver. She writes about a form of prayer and meditation that encourages surrender. “By allowing the Divine to lead the way, we can finally put down the heavy load of hopes, fears, and opinions about how things should be. We learn how to be guided to take the right actions at the right time, and to enjoy the spectacular show that is our life.” Take time for meditation each day. Ask for guidance, wisdom and flow AND the courage to act on the insights you receive. The Divine wants you to love your life and offer your gifts.

We ALL go through times when we need to let go of life as we know it and move towards the new, exciting and sometimes scary unknown. Just as frequently we can get paralyzed and stuck. What’s YOUR favorite technique or idea for getting unstuck? Please share it below!

I’m Stuck in a Rut and I Can’t Get Out!

Business woman boredom at the desk with a laptop, cup, coffee, glasses, a penQ: What do you do when you’re not sure what you want? Everyone says to focus on your goals. What if you have several competing interests, and thus really do not know what your passion is? I feel so stuck! I don’t know how to move forward. Can you give me some suggestions for how to get out of this rut?

A: You’re obviously listening to it because you’re able to identify some of your passion(s.) Who says there needs to be just one? Why not pursue them all?! Many of us (including me!) have multiple aptitudes. Wouldn’t it be great if a big, booming voice from above would clearly announce the best path to follow in life? Well, there is a voice. It just speaks a little softer. It’s called intuition.

Someone once said that too many people quit just a step away from achieving success. Here’s a plan to get out of that rut while you work in harmony with your intuition.

Focus on your interests. When you think of an ideal day, week, month or year, what are you doing with your life?

Develop a plan. What are the small steps you can begin to take that will lead you in the direction you want to go? “A journey of a thousand miles begins with the first step.” Take that first step, and then take another. Opportunities will begin to show up that show you a new path.

If you get off track, be willing to change. What are you doing that’s on the mark? If one way doesn’t work for you, be ready to go another. Many times, the road to success is found by taking a detour.

Cultivate the attitude of a wish fulfilled. Success is waiting for you — feel it, see it, vividly imagine it, sense it, and grasp it.

Don’t dwell on the old. Put your mental energy and action into focusing on where you want to go.

Look ahead, rather than back. Ask yourself, “How will I view this circumstance six months or a year from now?” Put your focus on what you have the power to change rather than dwelling on an apparent failure.

How will you know when you’re succeeding? Success isn’t a destination. It’s a journey. Here’s a checklist:

Are you enjoying what you do?
Are your connections with friends, colleagues and family strengthened by your success?
Are you proud of your accomplishments thus far?
In the process of achieving your goals are you developing the qualities of kindness, self-respect, courage, compassion, patience, love and hope?
Do you feel more in control of yourself and your life?
Are you able to shift negative self-talk to something more positive and useful?
Has your spiritual life been enriched through the process of achieving this goal?
Are you being of service to others?
Are you more self-confident and sure of your capabilities as the result of pursuing this dream?
Are you continuing to stretch just beyond your comfort zone?
Are you easily able to shift direction if the course you’ve been on isn’t working?
Are you consistently listening to your inner guidance and following its wisdom?
If you answered yes to most or all of these questions, you are a success!

When you’ve put a lot of hard work into an endeavor and it’s not going as you planned, it’s hard to step back and assess the situation. Is there something that you feel you’re “failing” at in your life? The following questions will help you put some perspective on your experience.

What can you learn from this?
What are you doing right?
What outcome will make you feel you’re successful?
Where did this begin to go wrong?
What do you wish you had done differently?
What is your intuition telling you to do about this situation?

After answering the above questions, do you feel there’s a different way to approach your project or endeavor? Depending on the issue, you have several options. You could:

Quit.
Persevere
Alter your course.
Put the project on hold for a period of time.
Try something new.
Ask for advice from someone who has been successful in a similar endeavor.
Work on your project part-time.
Discuss the situation with others who may be involved.

Which of these options feels best to you? You can choose more than one and your intuition may present you with even more choices than listed here. Trust your gut and good luck with your new endeavors!

The Surrender Box Technique

When you have learned how to decide with God, all decisions become as easy and as right as breathing.  There is no effort, and you will be led as gently as if you were being carried down a quiet path to summer. — A Course in Miracles

I want to share a technique with you that I’ve been using for years. I feel it’s played a central role in manifesting miracles in my life. I have a box on a shelf in my home office that says “Help Wanted.”  It sits by a lovely sculpture of a glass angel who watches over it.  It contains letters I’ve sent to God. (Please substitute “Higher Power,” “Universe” or some other word if that better matches your beliefs.)

I consider prayer a vital element in allowing abundance into our lives.  Prayer is how we talk with God and intuition is one of the ways God answers.  I’m a bit of a pragmatist and sometimes I’d wonder if God heard my prayers.  So I devised a system that satisfied my need for some sort of a tangible signal that I was sending a communication to God that I wished him to hear and take action on.  It works like this:

I write a letter to God addressing my concerns.  I always feel a sense of relief in writing these.  It’s as if I’m talking with a good friend and sharing my concerns.  I pour out my worries, fears and anxieties on the page.

Then I go a step further.  I make specific requests of God to help me in certain ways, always adding, “if this is in my highest interest.”  Far be it from me to tell God what to do in my life!  But I like to think God is interested in helping me with my specific concerns and will assist me in unique ways that I could never have come up with on my own.  I figure that the Power that created the Universe and all its inhabitants will certainly know how to assist each of us in an easy and effortless way.

What do you think? I’d love to hear your thoughts and results!

Keep Your Focus on Joy

Here is a universal truth:

What You Focus on Expands.

If you’re truly honest with yourself:

What have you been focusing on?

I’d be willing to bet that your attention hasn’t been on gratitude, appreciation and joy.

You may not see the immediate connection between your lousy job, your lack of energy, lack of joy, your irritation with your spouse and what goes on in your mind.

But I assure you it does exist and you may have to take it on faith for now.
Begin to focus on what makes you feel joy.  Take time to tune into your inner voice, be still and listen.

Here are some great questions:

 “What makes me feel joy-filled?”

“What do I have in my life that I feel good about?”

“What do I like about me?”

“What do I like about my family, my work, my home?”

You’ll know you’ve got it when you begin to feel that buzz of excitement, or a deep sense of calm and inner peace.

Beginning to pay attention to your “joy feelings” is a first step towards creating a life you love.
Remember: what you focus on expands…

This week may you expand your joy, health, love, prosperity and bring all sorts of new and good things into your life!  Tell me, what makes you joy-filled?

Exhausted? How to Reclaim Your Energy

HappyGirlMy client Marsha dragged herself into my office and began a litany of complaints. She told me about people who took too much of her energy, her boss who was extremely demanding, and her endless volunteer activities that were no longer fun. I have to confess that by the end of fifteen minutes I began to feel exhausted myself. I stopped Marsha at that point. I spoke to her about my belief that when you’re consistently tired, drained, bored or anxious, these are clues from your intuition that something needs to be changed.

When a client has a consultation with me, I often view their energy level. I sense through my inner guidance whether they are in or out of the Divine flow of life force. When you do things that give you energy — taking care of yourself, having fun, doing work you love — the Divine current of life courses through you and around you and you feel up and motivated. When you do things that drain you — experiencing constant feelings of worry, bitterness, anger or resentment — you pinch yourself off from the flow. This results in low energy and exhaustion.

When you’re feeling stuck in a rut or simply finding yourself more tired than usual, get in the habit of asking your intuition questions such as, “What do I want?” “What’s the best possible outcome?” “What would make me feel better right now?” and “What steps could I take to bring about the situation I want?” The best plan is one that you have some control over. Steer clear of answers that involve forcing someone else to do it your way. Divine intuition always presents options that are a win-win solution for all involved.

Marcia and I talked about what was draining her energy and also her “best possible outcomes” and I sent her home with the following exercise that I’d like to share with you.

Intuition Exercise: Re-energize!

Energy drain: Write several paragraphs in your journal describing what you’re upset about. Who or what is taking your energy?

What do you want?: Think about what would feel great in this situation. What provides you with a sense of relief when you think about it. That’s a clue from your intuition about the outcome you need to move towards. Describe it.

Consult your inner guidance: Close your eyes and take a deep breath. Imagine being filled and surrounded by a feeling of love. Ask for Divine guidance to assist you. (Pause) Ask the question — “What can I do to change this situation to a more positive one?” (Or your own question) Continue to remain open and expansive. Allow the information to come to you. A thought may pop into your mind. You might have a sudden shift in perception or you might see the problem from another perspective. (Pause) Stay in this altered consciousness until you feel ready to end. (Pause) Open your eyes and write your answers.

Results: You may not receive the information immediately. Be willing to sit with the question for the rest of the day. The answer from your intuition may come to you when you least expect it. If you did receive an answer, write it down.

Action steps: What steps are indicated? Do you need to clarify something with someone? Speak your truth? Let go of something or someone? See a situation from a different perspective? Or simply be willing to wait something out? You may also receive an answer that indicates you need to do more things that are fun and enjoyable. What steps are you willing to take?

Write down at least one thing that you could do today or this week to give you a reprieve from the stress. If you sigh with relief when you think about having completed this task, that’s your intuition saying, “Yes!” Now go do it!

How to Use Your Intuition to Make a Good Decision

DiceDecisionMost of us hate making big decisions. Should I leave this job? Would my life be better if I moved to another place? Is it time to end this relationship? We usually angst about these issues for weeks, months and even years. I’ve observed that, left to their own devices, most people decide not to decide. They let “fate” take its course. What this actually means is, they don’t make an active choice about what they want, so much as they let circumstances choose for them.

No one aspires to feeling upset, down, depressed or out-of-balance. You’ve probably read many of the same books and attended the same seminars that I have. We’re striving for a life of balance and peace. Right? My answer – yes and no. When your life feels out of kilter it’s simply a message from your intuition that it’s time to make a change.

Would you like to read my favorite intuitive technique for making a good decision? If you answered “YES!” then read on. Have your notebook or journal ready to jot down your responses.

“How to Use Your Intuition to Make a Good Decision” Exercise:

Describe something you’re unhappy about.
If you could be granted any wish, what would you like to happen regarding this situation?
Describe five options you have relative to this issue: (Examples: You could choose to talk to someone, to leave, to stay, to ask for help or support, to pray, to not decide, to take a risk, to shift your attitude, to continue doing what you’ve always done, to take a specific course of action, or all of the above.)
Close your eyes, take a deep breath. When you feel centered ask your intuition the question, “What is the best course of action to take?” Pause. Think about all the options you’ve just written. Is there one choice that leaps out as the best decision? If not, go deeper and ask the question again. A new answer may emerge.
Write about your results in a journal.
What three action steps can you take that will move you in the direction you chose?

Four things to consider:

1) The intuitive answer you come up with may make you feel a little scared or anxious. That’s normal. Most likely the choice you’re considering is moving you out of your comfort zone. If you feel unable to make a big change right now, think about some small steps you could take to honor your intuition.

2) You may not receive an answer immediately. Again, that’s normal! Try the exercise again later in the week or keep a notebook handy to jot down any “ah ha” moments you receive throughout the day.

3) Consider scheduling an Intuitive Reading with me. Clients generally call when they’re in the midst of change and transition. I use my intuition, and also help you use yours, to figure out the right next steps.

4) You could also try one of the quizzes on my site. The one titled “Are You Making the Right Decision?” could be especially helpful.
