Ixeos Tour, Giveaway and Interview!

iXEOS R copy Tour Schedule
ixeos reb
Ixeos Rebellion
With rebel leader Darian free at last, the humans and outsiders on Ixeos must find a way to join forces and defeat the Firsts. The problem? All slaves are tracked with GPS, the Firsts are the only ones with power, and roving gangs hate the rebels just as much as they hate the aliens. As Darian and the outsiders from Earth travel the globe through the mysterious tunnels in Paris, they learn that the Firsts are preparing to launch another wave of biological warfare. With a transporter that will allow the aliens to target any city, anywhere on the planet, the rebels know they must stop them at all costs.

As things get more dangerous on Ixeos, the outsiders find that they're pushed to their limit. Will they fight for freedom, no matter the price?

1.) Is there one book that has had an impact on not only your writing, but on you personally?
There are a lot, but probably the one I quote the most, have used as a mom the most, and reread or relisten to the most is The Chronicles of Narnia (all 7!). There are so many great lessons, so many great word pictures. I can text one of my kids with just a few words and they instantly know what I’m talking about and how it relates to the situation. Plus, they’re fun!
2.) What is the hardest emotion for you to convey?
Probably sadness/regret. While there are certainly ways that we all feel those emotions in common, it’s also a completely unique experience. I know what breaks my heart, or how that feels for me, but with such deep feelings, which vary wildly depending on what caused them, I think it’s hard. I know I’ve done a good job if I cry when I read a sad scene for the first time after writing it.
3.) What’s your favorite way to procrastinate?
Definitely the internet. I do a lot of research for my own books, as well as for my husband, and it is so easy to slide from research to checking Facebook, to looking at Pinterest, to shopping on Amazon. It’s a serious time-sucker!
4.) When you were growing up, what did you want to be?
I wanted to be a marine biologist, and a charter boat captain on a sailboat in the Caribbean. Then I realized that marine biology was the only science I liked, and didn’t get very far after that! I’m still holding out hope for the charter boat captain gig!
5.) Who do you feel is your most unique character?
Probably Landon, in the IXEOS Trilogy. We aren’t sure who or what he is yet… He’s definitely an enigma.
6.) If you could have any extraordinary gift or super power what would it be and why?
That’s hard, because OF COURSE I’d want to fly. Who wouldn’t?! But then, I’d really like to be able to breathe underwater. That was my heart’s desire growing up (I wanted to be Aquaman). Now Percy Jackson gets to do it (thanks Rick Riordan!) and I’m jealous.
7.) Are the traits of anyone close to you apparent in your characters?
Not really. I know a lot of people base characters on people they know, but I haven’t – so far!
8.) What would you like for readers to take away from your novel/novels?
First, I want them to just have fun. That’s why I write – to entertain. But I do put a lot of history, travel, and geography into them, regardless of genre, so the reader might accidentally learn something, which is great, too!
Thank you so much for stopping by! Anyone interested in book one check this out:

Ixeos The McClellands are enjoying a lazy summer vacation at the beach when they are lured from our world into Ixeos, an alternate Earth. Finding themselves lost in a maze of tunnels under Paris and surrounded by strangers, they discover that they have been brought to Ixeos for one purpose: to take the planet back from humanoid aliens who have claimed it. With the aid of the tunnels and a mysterious man named Landon, the teens travel the world seeking the key that will allow them to free Darian, the long-imprisoned rebel leader. But the aliens aren't the only problem on Ixeos -- the McClellands have to deal with brutal gangs, desperate junkies, and a world without power, where all the technology is owned by the aliens, and where most of the population has been killed or enslaved. The worst part? There's no way home.

Lost in Thought Tour (Review)!

Title: Lost In ThoughtAuthor: Cara Bertrand Genre: YA Paranormal Romance (psychic abilities)…with a contemporary flairTour Host: Lady Amber's ToursAmazon | Barnes & Noble | Apple Books
Lainey Young has a secret: she’s going crazy. Everyone else thinks she has severe migraines from stress and exhaustion. What she really has are visions of how people died—or are going to die. Not that she tells anyone that. At age sixteen, she prefers keeping her crazy to herself. When doctors insist she needs a new and stable environment to recover, Lainey’s game to spend two years at a private New England boarding school. She doesn’t really think it will cure her problem, and she’s half right. There is no cure, but as she discovers, she’s not actually crazy. Almost everyone at Northbrook Academy has a secret too. Half the students and nearly all the staff are members of the Sententia, a hidden society of the psychically gifted. A vision of another student’s impending death confirms Lainey is one of them. She’d like to return the crappy gift of divining deaths with only a touch, but enjoys spending time with Carter Penrose—recent Academy graduate and resident school crush—while learning to control it. Lainey’s finally getting comfortable with her ability, and with Carter, when they uncover her true Sententia heritage. Now she has a real secret. Once it’s spilled, she’ll be forced to forget protecting secrets and start protecting herself.
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this book! This has been on my Amazon wish list for a while now and I don't actually remember how I found it. I think I was browsing and it came up in those recommendations at the bottom of the page. So when I saw there was going to be a tour I jumped at the chance! Let me start by saying I plan on buying this novel as I had originally intended, especially now that I know it will be worth every penny.   The internal voice of the main protagonist is really well written and while normally First person narratives are always either a hit or a miss with me, this one was definitely a hit. In fact I would say it was a home run. Part of what gives this story the unique feeling it manages to pull off, where you sit there almost feeling like you're sneaking around reading someone's diary, is the narrative and its honest tone.  You get a glimpse into Lainey's quirky personality and the secrets she keeps from everyone, amazing secrets that make her feel like a bit of a freak but are also part of what is so wonderful about her. I am really looking forward to more of Cara's work. The depth woven into the story, the strong characters and the unique execution and delivery of a very honest and raw voice convincing you that the unimaginable is in fact happening to her (well, is in fact her actually) is all simply amazing. Truly a fantastic novel!

Cara is a former middle school literacy teacher who now lives in the woods outside Boston with: one awesome husband, two large dogs, one small daughter, and lots of words. LOST IN THOUGHT is her first novel and was one of three finalists for the 2011 Amazon/Penguin Breakthrough Novel Award in the Young Adult category.Website | Twitter | Goodreads
Excerpt
Prologue

It started innocently, but isn’t that always how things start? My Aunt Tessa and I were shopping at a local antique store, pretty much my favorite way to spend free time. I picked up a heavy candlestick that looked classic, expensive, and at least a hundred years old. As I turned it over to check, I suddenly felt dizzy. I set it down, so I wouldn’t drop it, and sat on an antique bench I probably shouldn’t have. The dizziness passed, as quickly as it came, and I reached for the candlestick again.
This time I did drop it. When my fingers touched the tarnished silver, I had the oddest vision. In my mind, I saw a crying woman in an old-fashioned dress, complete with petticoats and a corset, looking down at a man in a similarly old-fashioned suit lying on the floor.
And bleeding from his temple.

I knew instantly that the man was dead and the woman, with the help of this candlestick, had killed him. I blinked and found myself right where I’d been, on the bench I shouldn’t have sat on, with the murdering candlestick dented on the floor. We bought the candle-stick, and its match, and I told my aunt that I got dizzy and needed to have some lunch. By the time I’d finished my sandwich, I believed it too. But that wasn’t the truth.

The truth was far stranger.

Cover Love Affair 20

As a cover artist I am a VERY visual person. When it comes to series one very important aspect I try to bring to the attention of clients is that theme and consistency create a better platform for marketing. When the second and third book in your series come out you want readers to know as soon as they see the cover that is BELONGS to that series. Here are some amazing examples via books I am currently in love with!

No One's Angel Cover Reveal

No One's Angel by Kelly Walker
Publication date: September 17th 2013
New Adult Contemporary Romance

Tess used to spend more hours than she’d care to admit playing her favorite computer game, using the nickname Angel. She could pretend her life was different, and she could pretend Arion was just a friend. But a girl needs more to keep her warm at night than pixels and she traded her virtual heaven for a real life hell. Now she’s on the run from a past she won’t talk about, and the only place she has to go is the doorstep of the friend she’s never actually met.

When Angel disappeared from their nightly games, it nearly destroyed Arion. He threw himself into work and women, but he can’t help knowing the one night stands will never compare to the angel who haunts his dreams. At first, when she shows up soaking wet and scared-shitless on his doorstep, he thinks his prayers have been answered.

But the more Arion tries to keep Angel close, the more her fear drives her away. If they are ever going to have a chance for a future, they’ll first have to deal with the past that hasn’t forgotten her any more than she’s forgotten it, and Arion will have to learn how to let her go.

No One's Angel is a New Adult(NA) Contemporary Romance and is recommended for mature audiences only due to language and sexual content. Goodreads: http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/18109730-no-one-s-angel

She loves the fantastical, and the magical, and believes a captivating romance can be the most realistic magic of all. Kelly, her husband and her two children share their home with three dogs who walk her, and two cats who permit her to occasionally share their couch.

Excerpt:

The crowd thins, eventually leaving Annemarie and me alone in the hallway. She gathers her books and turns, quicker than I expect. I can’t maneuver out of her way. Our collision is mild, but jarring enough to dislodge the books from her hands.
“I’m so sorry,” she says as she kneels to pick up her scattered books.
I should be helping her, but my eyes are fixed on her graceful movements. Her long brown hair has fallen to the side, exposing the back of her softly curved neck, and every reach for a stray book lengthens her back and shoulders, inviting my touch. From the lowest point, just above the waist of her jeans, the tip of my finger would snake upward, navigating the gentle ridge of her spine until my hand laces through the richness of her flowing hair.
She tilts her head upward and grins at me. “Are you okay?”
Her voice snaps me from my fantasy. “Me? Yeah, I’m…fine. Oh, god. I’m so sorry. I should be picking up your books. You’re…you know.” I point feeble-mindedly at her extended stomach.
“Pregnant,” she says as she stands and straightens her blouse. “It’s all right to say it. I already know.”
The tip of her tongue unknowingly caresses her lower lip and the gentle arc of her full upper lip stretches, the smallest amount, as a smile slowly radiates across her flushed cheeks. These emotions, human, raw and…hormonal, forgotten for so long, now my only hope for clear thought is to suppress them. This has to be one of Satan’s sadistic jokes.
I laugh from embarrassment, but it’s the first time, in too long, that the sound of untempered, unrestrained joy bubbles from my heart. How can she have this warming effect on me? I want to say something cute and funny, but my mind is a hornet’s nest of scrambled thoughts.
“You look familiar,” she says. “Do we have a class together?”
I gaze into her hazel eyes. I must appear flustered because she tilts her head and grins.
“No. I mean, I don’t know. Today is my first day at this school.”
“Great. Welcome to Roosevelt High School. My name is Annemarie.”
“I’m Wake.”
“Wake? That’s an interesting name.”
“Yeah, I know. It sounds like a funeral.”
“I like it. But I have to go. My little guy keeps pushing on my bladder. Lately, I have to use the restroom between every class.” She covers her mouth as if she gave too much information to someone she just met, but her joyful eyes can’t hide the smile hidden behind her hand.
“I can’t believe I just told you that.” She starts to hurry away, but looks over her shoulder. “See you later, Wake.”
I wave like an embarrassed adolescent. What a lousy first impression. I sounded like a bumbling, immature little boy.
I watch as she continues down the hall. I’ve seen other pregnant women before. They were clumsy, out of balance from carrying extra weight in front. But not Annemarie. Her steps are graceful and refined, like she’s gliding on a frozen pond. The gentle curves of her hips have remained slender, and sway hypnotically side-to-side in a rhythm that matches the drumming of my heart.
What am I thinking? Mooning about like a lovesick teenager. I can’t let my physical attraction for Annemarie erode the resolve I’ll need to complete this assignment. Yet, she’s the most beautiful… Does she even know how she makes me feel…how human? I’m stuck in a moment reserved for young love. There’s nothing merciful about denying the uninhibited excitement coursing through every inch of my body, but my plan is already in motion. The fate of my mother’s soul is in my hands. As much as I hate myself for thinking it, Annemarie’s beauty has to be extinguished. I have to collect her. I know Satan is convinced these human emotions will help, but right now, I wish I was a stone-cold demon. It would make it a lot easier to incinerate her goodness from the earth.

Sweet Contradiction on GoodReads
facebook | twitter | GoodReads
When Beth Michaels high tailed it out of the hole-in-the-road town she grew up in, she only had two goals. One—get as far away as quickly as possible, and two—never set foot in her parent’s home again. But when she receives a heart breaking call from her childhood best friend, Jen, she has no choice but to turn her ’56 Ford pickup back in the direction of Salem, Missouri to attend a funeral.

There’s a new local in town when Beth arrives, and suddenly, it ain’t all that easy for her to remember her rules for dating. #1. Cookie-cutter-perfect guys ain’t her type. #2. Tie wearin’ and church frequentin’ is an automatic dismissal. #3. Most importantly, never date anyone from small minded, conservative, Bible-thumping towns like Salem. Unfortunately, Matthew Wright breaks all her rules and then some.

Matt might be from a small town and have small town values, but that doesn’t mean he fits into a little slot of Beth’s preconceived notions. After all, ever so often good guys are good. Now if he could just convince Beth to let go of her past and give him a chance, he’s pretty sure there’s a whole lotta sweet under that prickly exterior. His own … Sweet Contradiction.
