Dark Drink’s Blog Tour: Day One

Book launch day. Exciting! Nerve-wracking! Roller-coaster ride!
I’m talking about my feelings, those aren’t book reviews. 🙂 But here’s what the first reviewers said:

An entertaining read! I was never sure who could really be trusted and there were quite a few surprises along the way.”
jessicaxbelmont.com

“I read Dark Drink in one sitting — wow! The story is exciting and character-driven. It’s so refreshing to see such a realistic female friendship on the page.”

lecari.co.uk

The most important aspect to me was this feedback:

Dark Drink has LGBTQ+ representation, too — Mercedez is a transgender black woman and Jude is Asexual. While it is mentioned, it wasn’t the focus of both character’s stories. Both characters have lots more to them than their sexuality or gender, it’s just another aspect of who they are, it’s not token representation, and I thought this was great!”
lecari.co.uk

I took a risk and worried that it wasn’t done correctly, respectfully. I rewrote until Mercedez had a voice – a real voice. But she did not tell me her secrets. That wasn’t what this book was about. The research was heart-breaking. You can’t look up transgender black without reading horrible tales of murder.

So, I’ll spoil it kinda, Mercedez lives. She prevails. I had to give her a good story—a sense of strength. Writers, have that responsibility, to write the world we want to see. Sure, this story has horrible things in it. But it also has acceptance, friendship, strength, hope.

And Jude, well. She’s who I would want to grow up to be (minus the stalkers). A lot of her is my own voice. But she’s bad ass.

I’m exhausted and it’s only 10 am. Also, I’m sick of hearing my voice already. 🙂 Introvert problems.

Tomorrow: Book Launch & Blog tour!!

It is time. Time to unleash this creepy book. Right now, I apologize for the bad words and the nightmares. Welcome to my brain.

Here’s the run down for the book launch:

Goodreads giveaway ends tonight. 100 ebooks will be given out. As of this post—746 people have signed up for the giveaway and 824 of my books are on their to-read shelf. Nice campaign! This giveaway is my favorite by far for reaching readers. One person has marked it as “currently reading”—they must have bought it straight from the publisher. Those shipped last week. https://www.goodreads.com/giveaway/show/347452-dark-drink
The paperback and kindle version become available for purchase tomorrow on Amazon, Barnes & Noble all around the world! Squeeeeee!!!!US Paperback: https://www.amazon.com/Dark-Drink-Tina-OHailey/dp/1684339774US KINDLE: https://www.amazon.com/Dark-Drink-Absolutely-Gripping-Psychological-ebook/dp/B09VMBWVG9US AUDIBLE: TBDBarns & Noble: https://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/dark-drink-tina-ohailey/1141066715UK Paperback: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Dark-Drink-1-Tina-OHailey/dp/1684339774UK KINDLE: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Dark-Drink-Absolutely-Gripping-Psychological-ebook/dp/B09VMBWVG9

3. The blog tour has 18 stops on it. I’ll start posting those links every day, and then not shutting up for the rest of the day thanking the bloggers for their reviews. They might hate it. You might hate it. It also might get some love! https://www.rachelsrandomresources.com/dark-drink

4. Other reviews are out there for various publications. I’ll post those when they roll in.

5. What am I forgetting? A launch party. Soon.

Okay. Back to writing. Working on the sequel (Jude) and a sci-fi book (Alexander’s daughter 300,000 years from now, don’t-you-know.)

Seriously – thank you for all of your support. Writing and animation are long, drawn-out passions that seriously need encouragement. Hugs to you.

Storytelling Workshop & Book Signing on Saturday, July 2

Hello. My name is Tina. I am an introvert. Book signings are difficult for me as an introvert. Until I’m standing there. Then I realize I love talking to people about books. I get excited when introducing them to my characters. But, it’s getting to that point which takes careful negotiation of my introverted soul.

Put a workshop attached to it, and I’m much more in my element. I LOVE to teach. Hold still, I’ll teach to you from this huge bucket of things I know. Even jog a little, I can keep up and show you this nifty method for designing characters or making a maquette. How about creative thinking? 3D animation, modeling, rigging, lighting? Neuroscience of creativity? Too nerdy. Uh, programming? Definitely, very nerdy. I’ve run out a breath and you can jog away. Luckily, I have a classroom with a university where I can teach people. They don’t even jog away!

So, for this year’s book release, I am doing a storytelling workshop along with a book signing event. Where? At this wonderful place in town called, “Arts in the Burg” in South Pittsburg, Tennessee. The place has studios for artists and a gallery. There are art workshops, gallery installations, art openings, music sometimes, and special events. Below you can find the info on it. Come out and join in on the fun. All workshops proceeds go to Arts in the Burg. I’ll have my fiction books there (all three) available for purchase.

Storytelling Workshop and Book Signing

July 2, 2 pm – 3:30 pm
Bring your imagination. Tina will bring the crayons.

Let’s create a story! We’ll uncover ways to develop unique stories for animation, games, films or graphic novels. Then, we’ll learn how to support those story ideas with visual language. In this workshop we will create thumbnailed storyboards (stick figures are a-okay!) and pitch our ideas to the class. Team up for even more fun.

Signed copies of Dark Drink, Absolute Darkness, and When Darkness Begins will be available for purchase.

Tina O’Hailey is an author and animation professor.

MATERIALS PROVIDED

Class Location:
Arts in the Burg, 207 S. Cedar Ave., South Pittsburg, TN 37380

You must be 13 or older to attend without being accompanied by an adult.

Unboxing Dark Drink!

We had planned on dragging this box down the bluff to the wee cave below our house and making an unboxing video – but man, it is WINDY outside. Where to open the boxes and unveil the new book? Jude, the main character, loves motorcycles – – so why not open the box in the garage? Sounds like a plan. Click here for the unboxing video: https://fb.watch/b-gdd0dAiZ/

If you are wondering about the bike — well, she’s old but still has guts. (Same.) BMW R1200C – my favorite bike. I’ve had many over the years: cruisers, sport bikes, dirt bikes, the Connie (Kawasaki Concours) which I had to admit was too big and tall for me. I gave it to my hubby after I dropped it at a stop sign–twice. This BMW gal, she fits me perfectly and we’ve been together a very long time. She did get dropped once when she stalled on a hill — and that’s in the book. Hell fire, it was hilarious.

Dark Drink comes out July 7, 2022. You are going to love Jude and Mercedez. Sorry about the nightmares and the bad words.
