Me! In Print!

Yesterday, I found out that Honeymoon Suite is now in a print anthology from Ellora's Cave! The paperback has five stories from authors Cerise DeLand, Chastity Vicks, Cindy Jack, Karenna Colcroft and myself. They are all part of EC's Branded line, meaning they are all about married couples.

The paperback is available from Ellora's Cave and Amazon. All of the stories are also available in e-format from most e-book retailers.

Travel Goals: Domestic(ish)

Earlier this week, I talked about my international travel goals. My domestic ones are a little less time restricted, but I would love to say that I've visited every state and territory. I've currently visited 0 territories (which is a shame), but I have managed 31 states. Not too shabby.

And since I hate to leave Canada out of the picture, I'd love to hit all of those provinces and territories as well. Currently, I'm a little short, but it'll happen. I know it.

Toronto is big on my list since it is only a short drive. Any other places I should add to my see-very-soon list?

Travel Goals: International

Since I talked about my goals for the year yesterday, I thought I'd throw out there that I have a few long term ones that I'm working through.

When I was 13, my mom sent me off to Europe for the first time with a school group. I LOVED IT. We visited Italy, Greece, and Turkey over the course of two weeks. It was the beginning of a life-long love affair with travel. Oh, don't get me wrong. If you follow me on Twitter while I'm in India, you know that I have days where I would do anything to get home. There are also days when I'm home where I am dying to go somewhere.

It was on that first trip that I made my first travel goal: 30 countries by the time I'm 30. This year, I'll turn 28, so I've still got a little more time to make it happen and I think I am doing pretty damn good. Here's my list so far:

1. United States of America (what? it totally counts)
2. Canada
3. Mexico
4. Belize
5. Bahamas
6. Jamaica
7. India
8. Turkey
9. Australia
10. Austria
11. Cypus
12. France
13. Germany
14. Greece
15. Ireland
16. Italy
17. Liechtenstein (yes, it really is a country)
18. Switzerland
19. United Kingdom
20. Vatican City (if the UN gets to count it, so do I)
21. South Africa

(Note: the map I made says 22. It's because they count the Cayman Islands. I don't. Those are a British Territory and aren't on the UN's list of sovereign states.)

visited 22 states (9.77%)

So, 21 in 27 years isn't too shabby. In May, I'll be adding Denmark, Finland, Norway, Sweden, Estonia, and Russia to that list (bringing my total up to 27). That gives me two years to add the last three. Any good suggestions for rounding out my list?

It's a New Year

That means that it is time for some goals.

Writing
I want to actually sit down and write every single day. My goal is to make 2K on any day that I'm not using the time for editing. It may not sound like a lot, but it adds up and it is a lot more than I'm managing regularly right now. Submit something each month. February and April are already on the books (Love Letters!), but the rest are up for grabs. I think with the first goal that this is totally reasonable. Health
I need to workout on a regular basis. I would love to go back to working out 5-6 days a week, but it won't happen. My goal is twice a week. More is better, but I need to put in my minimum. Real Life
I have to find a real job this year. If all goes well, I'll finish and defend my dissertation in April and start a new job in June. That's assuming I get one. I've already applied to a lot, but I need to apply to more. My goal is for three per week until someone hires me. Worry less. That one is mostly self-explanatory. I worry too much about things that are out of my control. Make new friends. Seriously. I have some great writing friends, but they mostly live far away. I need to branch out, be more social, and find some new people to be around. People who are supportive of me and my life. Also, somewhat self-explanatory.

The Importance of Tradition

My brother and I are both adults. We've moved out of the house, hold down jobs (in my case you could argue with that, but go with it), and generally take care of ourselves.

It's been that way for a few years too. I live far enough away that I typically only make it home once or twice a year. That great second visit has been mostly reserved for medical emergencies, graduations, and funerals. We're at an in-between phase as far as Christmases go. All the children in the family are grown (my youngest cousin starts high school this year), but there aren't any grandchildren yet.

I've always though Christmas was perfect for children. There is this unknown factor that makes it all so exciting. We used to go to my Aunt's on Christmas Eve, eat dinner, open our one present for the night, sit through a church service and then go to bed. Where I would never be able to sleep. I had to know what was under the tree.

My brother, on the other hand, didn't have that need. Mostly because he already knew. In addition to being a master snooper, he has some magic ability to pick up a package and automatically know what was inside.

Either way, at some point we'd both fall asleep for a few hours. Once we were old enough to tell time, there were rules. No getting out of bed until 5AM. Then 6AM. 7AM. 8AM. Then there were the years when my mom would be yelling for us to get up because we needed to get the day going.

My aunt and cousins always open presents from Santa at their own house, then trudge across town to open the rest with us. My brother and I would call about 125,294 times between the time we got up and the time they got over to our place because we were so anxious we couldn't stand the wait. Now, it is the perfect time to take showers, organize things, and watch something on TV.

Tomorrow morning, my husband and I will probably be awake by 8AM. We'll stay in bed a little while, maybe watch something on TV until we hear my brother stirring. We'll get up, open our stockings, and then start putting stuff away. At some point, we'll take showers and put on a new pair of pajamas (who gets dressed?) and then turn on the TV to some movie (or, God willing, a Dr. Who marathon). The rest of the family will show up at about 10 or 11. Then we'll work our way through the mountain of gifts until the turkey is ready or we finish, whichever comes first.

It's not the same as it was when we were children. The day will come when Christmas morning once again starts at 5AM. Despite all the changes, my mom still insists that we pick one present each year to open on Christmas Eve. I don't need it anymore. I can stand to wait the last 10 hours before the real day actually begins.

Sometimes, though, it's nice to know that some things never change.

Holiday Story Recommendations

In case you're looking for a little holiday cheer, I thought I'd make some recommendations for some very awesome holiday stories.

I'm getting a plan today to fly home for the holidays, so I've been filling up my e-reader with stories that will make the flight go a little faster.

Bonus: Many of these are super hot and will have you squirming in your chair.

Double bonus: If your nosy neighbor looks over and sees some of the words, you will get the look of doom. I find this incredibly amusing.

Fueling her Fire by Piper Trace

Lonely and frustrated with her love life, Kip’s decided to spend Christmas alone in her family’s cabin in the mountains, rediscovering herself and not thinking about men…until a last-minute firewood delivery brings her face-to-face with the grown-up version of the sexy football star who broke her heart eight years ago.

Kip’s never stopped thinking about Dylan, but the memories are both searingly hot and brutally painful. When they find themselves snowed in together on Christmas Eve, neither can deny the passion that still smolders between them. If they can overcome the past, they can let the flames ignite at last.

Santa's Sleeping Beauty by Lisa Fox

When Jordan takes a break from her last-minute Christmas shopping to have a cup of coffee, she meets a handsome Santa with a twinkle in his eye and a sinful smile. He offers her a special Christmas treat that Jordan is more than happy to accept.

Naughty never felt sooo right as together they share an outrageous night of love that is supposed to end with the coming of dawn.

Or so they thought…

A Ghost for Christmas by Kacey Hammell

After receiving a long weekend at an elegant hotel beside the majestic Niagara Falls as a Christmas gift, Jodie Gibson is determined to do nothing but relax and enjoy the scenery. And, okay, just maybe meet someone who makes her toes curl.

Sebastian is sophisticated, tall, dark and gorgeous--everything a woman fantasizes about. But he's also an 18th century ghost. He haunts the halls of the hotel, seeking the one true love that can help him find peace…

Payback (The Men of Firehouse 69) by Lori Toland

Melanie is having a bad day. She nearly set her kitchen on fire and who comes running to her rescue? Firefighter Andre Wellings, her brother's best friend and her long time crush. Now she has to take a fire safety course with him but something's up and she plans to get to the bottom of this.

When Andre gets the call Mel is danger, he's scared to death of losing the woman he's always admired in secret. Now that she's safe, he breathes a sigh of relief until his teammates begin to tease her. Playing pranks on her when they were kids used to be fun but hurting her now isn't an option.

Caught in a web of lies, Andre shows up to her house with plans to set her straight but Melanie has a different idea. Too many years of having her pigtails pulled by Andre has made her hungry for revenge and now it's time for payback.

Jingle Ball by KJ Reed

As an early Christmas gift, I scored an exclusive invitation to a Hilltop House party. I’d heard the rumors about what goes on there—orgies, ménages, voyeurism—and I planned to be a little voyeuristic myself. I’d been a good girl, after all. Certainly I deserved to witness a walk on the wild side. What I didn’t plan on was going from spectator to participant.

When I met Dane, I discovered how quickly my plans could change. And when Ryder was thrown into the mix? Merry Christmas to me! These two sexy men had no problem adding much-needed sizzle to my cold winter night.

Have patience with the poor jet lagged author

Today (which is actually yesterday) I get on a plane to go home. Technically, I left on the 18th at about 5:00 PM. I'll land back in Pittsburgh just after midnight on December 20th. For those of you keeping track at home, that's about 31 hours of travel ahead of me. I'm trying to be excited. It's hard. I want to go home, but I'd really rather wave a magic wand and end up somewhere else.

Either way, four airports, three planes, two decent drives, and 1 trip through customs later I will in fact be home. For exactly 27 hours.
I will largely look like Grumpy Cat by the end of this
Yep, then I get to go back to the airport, hop on another plane, and head to Wyoming for the holidays.

When it's all done, I'll have flown nearly 12,000 miles over the course of 10 days. This does not include the several long drives that have to be made to get to and from the airports.

What I'm saying is that you might need to be patient with me. I only see my family once a year and it tends to be quite the whirlwind. I also haven't seen my husband in two months. We'll be...busy. So, if you need something, email me. If it's important, please say so and I will do my very best to get back to you right away. Otherwise, you may have to wait a couple days until I'm sitting down with a computer.
