August 23, 2013: My Odyssey To Ulisses

While I was visiting some family in Germany our MIB Control, Birger, told me about Ulisses Spiele: a game publisher and distributor that happens to have their office in the same township as my folks. Ulisses is the largest roleplaying game publisher in Germany, led by their hit game Das Schwarze Auge (The Dark Eye); they also publish the German version of Pathfinder , and as a distributor they carry Steve Jackson Games products among many others. I sent an email to their General Manager, Markus Plötz, who invited me in for a visit.



Markus was a fantastic host; he gave me a tour of their offices and warehouse, which honestly looked kind of similar to our offices at SJ Games and Warehouse 23. We even managed to talk a little business over a cup of coffee and get a picture together in their online store, F-Shop. I also found out Markus was coming to Gen Con this year, and we agreed to meet up again there. We ended up having dinner together at the Munchkin Tavern, and in October it will be my turn to visit him at Essen Spiel.



I don't usually like to mix vacation time and work, but it's always nice to meet new people in the business. And to think it was right in my backyard all those times I've gone to visit!

August 22, 2013: Crowdfunding Focus: ChupacabraCon

ChupacabraCon is a new gaming convention for fans right here in our home town of Austin, TX. Their plan is to have roleplaying and other tabletop games, panels, special guests, and vendor space.



They've lined up a fairly impressive array of special guests, including novelist Aaron Allston, Steve Kenson from Green Ronin Publishing, Jason Morningstar from Bully Pulpit Games, and me!



We're supporting their Kickstarter, because we'd like to help grow the con scene here. If you're interested in that also, drop some support their way! Their Kickstarter ends on 8/27.

August 14, 2013: Ogre Unboxing Events At Gen Con

If you're at Gen Con this week then I hope you'll have time to stop by and watch as we rip open the Ogre Designer's Edition . We have two completed copies of the game and you're invited to join us Wednesday, August 14, 5:30pm in the Crowne Plaza lobby where we will open one of the two games. Everyone is invited to stick around after the box is open and help us punch and assemble pieces! We will film this and post the video online next week for everyone who cannot make it.



The second box will be opened Thursday at 3:15 at the BoardGameGeek booth (#167) at Gen Con. That unboxing will also be filmed and posted online.
