July 24, 2013: Maritime Mayhem Measured

A study by the World Wildlife Fund has identified the most dangerous oceans for shipping. Now that Ogre is off to print, let's hope none of this affects us when it finally ends up on the boat!

July 23, 2013: These Moles Are Cancer Free

As their name suggests, naked mole rats are strange creatures. And it goes beyond just the fact that they're . . . well . . . naked mole rats. They have an incredible tolerance for pain, their body temperature mimics that of their environment in a way similar to reptiles, they live in hive societies like ants or bees, and as far as anyone can tell they're completely immune to cancer.

It's only very recently that scientists have discovered the why of that last talking point. Its a discovery that's already leading to hopes of creating cancer prevention techniques for humans. Check out the full story on Live Science.

July 22, 2013: This Issue Scores A Bullseye!

Pyramid #3/57: Gunplay

In modern gaming, most heroes use guns to keep the peace – and when it comes to weapons and gear, more info and intel is always better. It's in that spirit that we present Pyramid #3/57: Gunplay , the latest issue of Pyramid.

Our bullet-pointed list of six shots includes a huge assortment of new GURPS gear and modern military insight from GURPS Ultra-Tech co-author Kenneth Peters, details and stats for the sure-shooting Mi-24 helicopter – and armaments – from GURPS Tactical Shooting 's Hans-Christian Vortisch, and David L. Pulver's fictitious arms manufacturer (including their wares throughout the ages) ready to be dropped into nearly any GURPS gun-toting era.

It also comes with an alternative look at dodging, expanded exotic bullets, and more. This is one loaded magazine, and there's never been a better time for a gun-themed issue than the numerologically appropriate Pyramid #3/57 ! Pick up this issue individually, or start your subscription today and keep yourself stocked!

Have you heard of the "Sailing Stones" of Death Valley's Racetrack Playa? Have you found yourself baffled by the seemingly impossible way these massive rocks glide across the cracked earth?

Well you won't have to waste your time doing that any more. Ralph Lorenz, a NASA climate scientist is claiming he's solved it. Check out his explanation here at Live Science .

July 19, 2013: Get Out Your Reading Glasses

Scientists at the Technical University of Denmark have made a breakthrough in nanoscale writing. Using a beam of electrons to displace carbon atoms on a sheet of graphene they have written with fonts as small as 2-3 nanometers.

Unfortunately being a layperson, it's difficult for me to comprehend just how tiny that is. Could you, for instance, fit everything ever published for GURPS onto a quarter?

Check out the full story here at Phys Org .

July 16, 2013: Out Of Print Ogre Miniatures Are Back!

One of the Ogre Kickstarter stretch goals was to reprint the minis from Ogre Miniatures . We're pleased to announce that the first wave of reprints is now available from Warehouse 23. This includes many long-out-of-print Ogres like the Mark III and Mark V. If the minis sell out before you order, don't worry – we will get more cast. Don't get price-gouged on eBay – but don't bother trying to gouge others, either!

The second wave of minis will include rare buildings like the Combine Jammer and the Paneuro Laser Turret, and a never-seen-before unit, the Combine Unity Missile Crawler. Watch this space!

While we've unfortunately had to raise the price on the reprints to reflect the current cost of labor and materials, the existing stock of boxed sets are still available at the amazing pre-2002 price of $19.95 each. We expect these to sell out after Ogre Designer's Edition launches later this year, so be sure to grab these bargains now, if you want them!
