March 7, 2022: Steve Jackson's Munchkin Presents Batman: What Happens After Kickstarter?

Although the Kickstarter campaign doesn't come to a close until March 18, the success of the project has already led to the question: What happens after the Kickstarter campaign?

Once the project comes to a close, we'll shift work at the factory into the final stages needed to prepare the game — as well as the stretch goals — for your collections. At the same time, the distribution edition of the game will also move forward, with both versions expected to reach our warehouse later this year.

What is the difference between the two editions?Retail - The MSRP is set at $44.95, which is $10 higher than other Munchkin games of the same box size. Why? Because this one is packed with over 250 cards when the usual Munchkin game only includes 168 game cards.Kickstarter - This is the retail edition of the game packed in a carton that also includes blank cards, a dice pack, a Bat Computer level counter, and a dice bag. We'll have some copies remaining for direct sales; the expected price of this edition post-KS is $64.95. Yes, the Kickstarter backers are getting a bargain . . . because let's face it, their support made all of this possible! You've not yet joined the Kickstarter campaign? There's still time to join the project and secure that Kickstarter edition at a great price! Check out the project page for details and don't miss your chance to join us in making this new Munchkin game a success!

March 6, 2022: NI3DP Part 8 – Improved Washing, And Assorted Observations

Well into the subject and I am apparently still going strong. I have gotten more comments than on most Illuminators, too. So I shall keep exploring.

We have improved the washing procedure a bit. There is now a separate container of alcohol in which each batch of minis is sloshed before it goes into the real wash. This keeps the real wash alcohol clean much longer. The first container doesn't have to be thrown out as soon, either, since its only job is to get the "big stuff" off. When the pre-wash becomes unspeakably dirty, I probably won't bother trying to clean it . . . I'll just dispose of it, replace it with the alcohol from the final wash container, and put fresh alcohol in that container.

Observations:

• Putting on rubber gloves, which was an incredible PITA when I started, is now pretty routine.

• Taking the gloves off is even faster than putting them on . . . once I learned to blow into them and then yank off the "balloon" with the other hand.

• I am also getting better at not dripping resin on things in the first place.

• You do not want to have a technical issue during Chinese New Year, which lasts more than a week. Just . . . don't. Most 3D printers are made in China. You might as well resign yourself to celebrating CNY yourself, as a holiday from printing. Of course, you could look on the active Reddit user group, r/ElegooMars, for answers. Or you could kill yourself slowly with a plastic spoon.

• The bulk food store is your friend. The little plastic nut containers are perfect for holding jobs at various stages of work. And if you catch them at the right time and ask nicely, you can get one of the white plastic peanut butter buckets. Those are just right for holding alcohol when you clean the wash system.

• If, like me, you need a fidget toy to keep your hands busy during phone or Zoom calls . . . a miniature that needs clipping is perfect.

• Some pieces, like bases, don't even need clipping. The base is so solid relative to the supports that I can clean a base left-handed, in less than a minute, without tools or even looking. (And it's faster when you look.)

• Failed prints are not a total loss: they yield weapons, bones, claws, tentacles, and other bits that you can use to jazz up your terrain or your bases.

• If a print seems to be incomplete, the missing part has not vanished into thin air. It is probably either adhering to your FEP film or floating around in the resin. Either way, you must find it and remove it.

March 1, 2022: Kickstarter Reports, March 2022 Update

Our biggest Kickstarter news is Steve Jackson's Munchkin Presents Batman , a new stand-alone Munchkin game featuring the Caped Crusader. The project is scheduled to launch later today and the game is being offered to backers in the U.S., Canada, EU, and UK. The game includes over 250 cards, giving you the equivalent of a basic game and one expansion right out of the core box. Stretch goals, if unlocked, add more swag to the Kickstarter edition of the game.

In other Kickstarter news, the word is "fulfillment" – and lots of it! All four of our active projects are in some stage of wrapping up the printing, waiting for printed games to reach the warehouse, or mailing out packages to project supporters. The global printing and shipping headaches continue to plague us, but we're very close to seeing all currently open projects shifting to the "done!" column.

Please follow us on Kickstarter — Steve Jackson Games and Warehouse 23 — to receive notice when we launch new campaigns.

Canadian rewards have been delivered to backers while EU and UK rewards will soon start their long journey across the ocean. Australia and the rest of the world are in the works. If all goes well, Warehouse 23 will finish all of their work on this project before the end of the month.Once the next project comes to a close, we have even more planned to take to Kickstarter in 2022. Wiz-War is moving up the ladder and should be ready for crowdfunding before summer, and the new Pocket Box project is patiently waiting its turn. We have a few other small projects to sprinkle in here and there, so please follow both Steve Jackson Games and Warehouse 23 on Kickstarter so that you don't miss anything.

February 27, 2022: I Like Drums That Bang And Clang

I posted last year about creating a vinyl record (April 4, 2021 Daily Illuminator entry), one of the pandemic activities I tackled during the long months locked away at home in 2020. Creating music was on my list of goals for many years, and it took a combination of learning a new DAW (Soundtrap) and the sleepless nights of 2020 to push me in the direction of actually producing music.

Since then, I've continued to experiment and learn, but one thing has remained constant: I'm very much a fan of percussion. As proof, I present to you my latest work* which even as I type this is being transformed from digital files into a cassette tape. Why a cassette tape? Because I have never made one.

Also, I've found a place to manufacture 8-track tapes, so I have a new goal to attack the next time I suffer through a few weeks of sleepless nights.

* If you give only one track a listen, I recommend The Grasping Void. Or maybe Deep Space Nightmare. Definitely one of those two.
