SERVING IS POWER

TODAY’S PROPHETIC THOUGHT

Today I have gone before you. Choose to follow Me knowing I have tailor-made this day to show you Myself and My love for you. As you serve others you are really serving Me.

SERVING IS POWER

I believe in preaching the Gospel and it is powerful. The upgrade of preaching the Gospel is demonstrating the Gospel. Jesus did not only come to preach the Gospel but to demonstrate the power of serving by healing the sick, setting the captive free, and giving sight to the blind, thus showing us what the upgrade looks like.

Serving is power because serving is demonstrating.

The Corinthians expected Paul to be a rockstar, but they were really disappointed in him. He wasn’t enjoyable to look at. He wasn’t much fun to be around. What? The guy grew up a Pharisee and he was no fun to be around!? Who knew!

Furthermore, they expected him to be this awesome preacher and he didn’t live up to their expectations. Paul says it this way:

“…my speech and my preaching were not with enticing words of man’s wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power…” – 1 Corinthians 2:4

He’s like, “You missed the upgrade because of my silly stupid voice. You couldn’t get past it and you missed it.” By the way, Acts 20:9-10 says that as Paul was preaching there was a brother sitting in the window asleep. He fell, broke his neck and died. Man, that stopped a church service!

But in true demonstration of the Gospel, Paul walked over and raised him up from the dead. Now that will get your attention!

Paul was a great writer, but he was probably not a very good speaker. He basically tells them, “I didn’t come to you with words, but I’m going to blow your mind by showing you what I’m preaching about.” Serving is power because serving is demonstrating.

Serving and selflessness are where the love of God is. The love of God changes everything. It’s powerful. The power of God is revealed in the context of serving. I believe with all my heart that as the Church returns to serving, the miraculous will return too. Let’s trust God to show us opportunities to serve today.

RESET 5: FINDING THE AX HEAD

RESET 5: FINDING THE AX HEAD
Sunday, April 2, 2021
Pastor Troy Brewer, OpenDoor Church, Burleson, TX

The Loss of the USS Huron
I want to take you back in time to November 23, 1877.
The last of the great steam naval ships, the USS Huron, leaves port and heads south toward
Cuba. THE LAST BUILT WITH IRON before the new steel hulls came out. The Huron’s captain
represented the brightest of his day and he had actually taught navigation at West Point Naval
Academy. Because he knew he had all the answers, he ignored warning after warning of
approaching storms, confident his compass and his knowledge could weather any storm. What
he didn’t know was that there was a tiny 1-degree error in the ship’s compass. The farther they
headed south, the closer the ship would edge toward the reefs of the east coast. In fact, within
24-hours, the Huron would sink just 200 yards off the coast of Virginia and 98 men would lose
their lives to the waves and the current.
The warning bells rang and the Captain saw the rocks of the reef directly ahead. When he saw
that, there was no way they could stop in time. He commanded his men to brace themselves.
His last recorded words were
“MY GOD! HOW DID WE GET HERE?”
When it comes to experiencing great loss, none of us are the exception. But some losses we
experience happen on our watch and we desperately need to find the things that have been
stolen from us.
We had a good marriage, but we lost it. Now we are just in survival mode.
I had a job and a career, but I lost it…
I had the joy of the Lord, but I lost it….
I had a great prayer life and zeal for the Lord, but I lost it…..
RESET part five is called “Finding the Ax Head.”
Finding the ax head:
2 Kings 6:5-7
But as one was cutting down a tree, the iron ax head fell into the water; and he cried out and
said, “Alas, master! For it was borrowed.” 6 So the man of God said, “Where did it fall?” And he
showed him the place. So he cut off a stick, and threw it in there; and he made the iron float. 7
Therefore he said, “Pick it up for yourself.” So he reached out his hand and took it.
(1) Where did it fall?
WHERE DID IT HAPPEN?
WHERE DID YOU LOOSE IT?
FOR VICTIMS, THIS PLACE IS ALL ABOUT THE FORCES BEYOND OUR CONTROL,
THOSE WHO HAVE MORE AND THE BIG GUY PICKING ON THE LITTLE GUY.
Accept the responsibility. Own it.

Revelation 2:5 (NKJV)
Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent and do the first works, or else I will
come to you quickly and remove your lamp stand from its place—unless you repent.
(2) The power of displacement
THROW WHAT DOES WORK INTO THE SITUATION.
Apply the Cross. Apply the Word (PROCLAIM).
Look at what does work.
WHAT YOU BEHOLD, YOU BECOME
Corinthians 3:18 (KJV)
But we all, with open face beholding as in a
glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the
Spirit of the Lord.
2 Corinthians 3:18 (CWR)
Our faces are no longer covered, and as we look at the glory of the Lord, we’re changed. We
reflect more and more of His image by the power of the Spirit working on our hearts.
Everyone must find the strength to go to their places of loss and accept the responsibility of
moving forward into certain victory.
SCRIPTURES ON STRENGTH
Psalm 34:19
Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the LORD delivers him out of them all.
Isaiah 43:2
When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not
overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, nor shall the flame
scorch you.
2 Corinthians 4:17
For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and
eternal weight of glory,
Isaiah 30:21
Your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, “This is the way, walk in it,” whenever you turn
to the right hand or whenever you turn to the left.
Psalm 37:23-24
The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD, and He delights in his way. Though he fall,
he shall not be utterly cast down; for the LORD upholds him with His hand.
Psalm 4:7
You have put gladness in my heart, more than in the season that their grain and wine increased.
Romans 8:31
What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?
Psalm 43:5
Why are you cast down, O my soul? And why are you disquieted within me? Hope in God; for I
shall yet praise Him, the help of my countenance and my God.
John 14:27
Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not
your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

2 Corinthians 9:8
And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having all sufficiency in
all things, may have an abundance for every good work.
Zechariah 4:6
So he answered and said to me: “This is the word of the LORD to Zerubbabel: ‘Not by might nor
by power, but by My Spirit,’says the LORD of hosts.”
Mark 9:23
Jesus said to him, “If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes.”
Philippians 4:13
I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
2 Timothy 1:7
For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.
1 Corinthians 10:13
No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will
not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make
the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.
Hebrews 2:18
For in that He Himself has suffered, being tempted, He is able to aid those who are tempted.
Psalm 20:1-2
May the LORD answer you in the day of trouble; may the name of the God of Jacob defend you;
May He send you help from the sanctuary, and strengthen you out of Zion.
Psalm 62:5
My soul, wait silently for God alone, for my expectation is from Him.
Luke 1:37
For with God nothing will be impossible.

(3) Reach out and get it
GO AFTER IT. PUT YOUR HANDS ON IT AND TAKE IT INTO YOUR LIFE.
POSSESS THE LAND.
IT’S NOT ENOUGH TO SEE THE PROMISED LAND. YOU MUST POSESS IT.
If God offers you peace. you have to possess it.

LOCATE WHERE YOU LOST IT.FOCUS ON WHAT DOES WORK IN THAT PLACE (The Word, His Spirit).REACH OUT AND TAKE IT WHEN IT IT’S OFFERED.

A ROYAL SUBJECT?

TODAY’S PROPHETIC THOUGHT

Know that I am for you. Trust Me to establish My kingdom in your heart. Commit all your ways to Me and watch Me do beyond all you could ever ask, think or even dream. Trust Me, I’ve got you and will never let you go.

A ROYAL SUBJECT?

You can’t bring the Kingdom into bad situations if you’re not a subject of the Kingdom. The first place the Kingdom of God needs to show up is within us before it can show up in the world.  Before His will can be done on earth as it is done in heaven, the King has to reign in our hearts.

“For indeed, the kingdom of God is within you.”—Luke 17:21

Being a subject of the Kingdom means you’re willing to do whatever the Kings tells you. You “subject” yourself to the king. The Kingdom in your heart is that place where you know His ways are better than yours.

It’s where you know He is way smarter than you and His plans are better than yours. The kingdom is the place in your life where you get it; you’re not God, and Jesus Christ is. You need to be subject to Him as King because it is the Father’s good pleasure to give you His kingdom.

Do you really believe that all He does is good? That what He is asking you to do will result in your highest good and He can be trusted with your life?

You cannot submit to a king you don’t believe is good. You cannot follow Him until you trust and believe in Him with all your heart. What areas of your heart are not submitted to His kingdom?

“Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven but he who does the will of My Father in heaven.” — Matthew 7:21

In short, the Kingdom is where the King has dominion, and that’s where things are finally right.  If you’ve got the Kingdom in your marriage, finances, and relationship with your kids or co-workers, that means Jesus rules, reigns and things are wonderful. Let’s line up with His will and believe His kingdom has come.

EMBRACE THE THIRD STAGE

TODAY’S PROPHETIC THOUGHT

Although I Am the same yesterday, today and forever, I love progression. The crown of My creation, you were made to progress. As you increase in understanding and experience of Me, call out to the deep for newness. I will answer.

EMBRACE THE THIRD STAGE

You know I love numbers and the way God uses them to speak to us. We know the number three represents perfect completion. I love that third stage place. That’s one of my favorite numerical things to talk about. Not the inner court, not the outer court but the Most Holy Place.

Not just faith and hope, but actually love. I don’t want to be 30-fold or 60-fold. I want to be a 100-fold Christian. The third level brings it all together. It’s absolute, total, and perfect.

Now, I’m not saying I have achieved any of those things, “but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and I press forward to the high calling which is in Christ Jesus.” Amen. That’s what Paul was talking about in Philippians 3. We need to go after something higher and deeper.

When we go from the first stage to the second, that’s newness. We’ve never been at that level before. Just like that, getting to the third stage is also newness. In the Kingdom, newness and transformation go together. You just cannot have one without the other.

As you step into something new – a prophetic lifestyle, relationship, or a ministry that God’s been calling you to – if you’re willing to progress, transformation is the result. You won’t be the same person you were before. Still, you can’t stay there. There is more of Jesus to discover and experience, just as there is more of your destiny to discover. Psalms puts it this way:

“Deep calls to deep in the roar of your waterfalls; all your waves and breakers have swept over me.” – Psalms 42:7

Can your life ever be the same once the breakers of God’s love and plan for you have swept you away from the shore? Don’t fear. Embrace the newness of progression and the transformation it brings. Go after that third stage.

INTIMACY 101

TODAY’S PROPHETIC THOUGHT

I whisper to you in quiet moments when your mind is still enough to hear My words being spoken over and into you. Listen. Hear what I Am saying. I Am speaking identity and destiny into you. I Am your God and you are My beloved child.

INTIMACY 101

Here’s what’s real when it comes to intimacy because if you don’t understand this biblical principle, you will miss the power of God.

When I’m talking about intimacy, I’m actually talking about the privileges that come with relationship. When you don’t respect those privileges, when you fail to keep them exclusive and special – you tend to lose those privileges.

Whether it’s friendship, family, or the covenant of marriage, intimacy comes with the promise of exclusivity.  You have to keep intimacy special.

“I am my beloved’s, and my beloved is mine: he feedeth among the lilies.” – Song of Solomon 6:3

Here’s a lesson from Intimacy 101: If you share something in secret with your friend, that’s privileged information because of your relationship with that friend. When you betray their trust and tell that secret to those outside your relationship, a bond is broken.

Worse yet, when you blast their secrets on Facebook for the whole world to know, that relationship changes. You have to learn to respect the privileges of relationship or there will be no relationship.

A man who talks openly about his wife’s insecurities will not be married long, just as a wife who reveals her husband’s financial losses or deepest fears will have a hard time ever regaining his trust.

It’s like that with Jesus too. He has a plan for your life that is only yours. He talks to you in ways He doesn’t talk to anybody else about things He doesn’t discuss with anybody but you. That’s your secret place. That’s where the power of God can show up in your life and change everything.

Do you need His power? Get into your secret place and listen for His still small voice. You’re His and He is yours.

BLOOD AND BETTER THINGS

TODAY’S PROPHETIC THOUGHT

I Am a God who knows your heart. My bloodline supernaturally flows through your veins. You are my child. Bought with the high price of My only begotten Son. Paid in full.

BLOOD AND BETTER THINGS

My friends, whenever you, by faith, tap into the blood of the Lord Jesus Christ, that blood speaks upon your behalf and declares that your price has been paid. Blood has a voice.

First, remember that the Hebrew word for blood in Genesis 4:10 is plural – “bloods”. That means the lost generations of promise and the unborn children, who would never see the light of day, were calling out to God for vengeance.

In Hebrews, Jesus blood speaks of better things. Check this out. There are some really cool comparisons between Abel and Jesus, you know:

Abel was a shepherd. Christ is the Good Shepherd.

Abel died a violently at the hand of a relative. Christ died a violent death at the hand of His own people.

Abel’s blood cried and God heard it. Christ’s blood speaks and God hears it.

Abel testified of the righteousness of God. Jesus was the righteousness of God.

In contrast, while Abel died by force, Christ died willingly.

Abel died because of his sacrifice. Christ died as the sacrifice.

Abel’s blood cried for revenge. Christ’s blood cries for remission, forgiveness, of our sins.

Abel’s blood polluted the ground. Christ’s blood is preserved in heaven.

I want us just to think about what the blood of Abel is crying about and what the blood of Jesus is speaking about because the blood of Jesus carries promises with it. All the lost promises of Abel are being restored in you and me. We are the joy set before Him.

Have you let the blood of Jesus speak better things about you? Cry out to Him and let Him save you. Let Him restore you, forgive you and give you a place in His supernatural bloodline so you can be called a child of God.

BY FAITH OR BY SIGHT?

TODAY’S PROPHETIC THOUGHT

Live this day aware of My life in you. That you are My child, righteous, loved and acceptable in My sight.  Not because you feel that way about yourself, but because that is who I say you are.

BY FAITH OR BY SIGHT?

Are you aware of what the Spirit is doing in your life?  We can be so aware of politics or the new TV shows coming out, but totally clueless about what the Spirit is doing in our lives.

Sometimes, I’ll be praying and all of a sudden I’ll get a terrible pain somewhere in my body. Before I go blaming the devil, I ask the Lord what’s going on. Many times, the Holy Spirit will reveal to me that while He wasn’t orchestrating that pain, He’ll use it to slap the devil in the face by using me to pray and declare healing over someone with a pain in that area.

“For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit.” – Roman 8:5

Let’s unpack this verse. If we are choosing to live with our minds set on the flesh, what does that mean? The flesh involves our five senses: what we see, touch, hear, smell and taste. We can take things at face value or ask the Spirit to reveal God’s perspective to us.

Setting our minds on the Spirit means we turn and seek what God has to say about the situation. That means we value His word above what we see or think is going on. The flesh says something is humanly impossible. The Spirit proclaims all things are possible to those who believe God. Oh, I love that!

We choose each day what we will be aware of. We can choose to be overwhelmed by the circumstances we are in or be overwhelmed by the Holy Spirit’s presence and power in our lives to overcome. You can live by faith or by sight. It’s your choice.

“But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.” – 2 Corinthians 3:18

THE CRY OF YOUR HEART

TODAY’S PROPHETIC THOUGHT

I Am a jealous God. I want your attention and your praise, but it must be freely given. I will not take it. I long to spend time with you. Do you have a minute to spend with me?

THE CRY OF YOUR HEART

How do you praise God? Or step into His presence? What are you going to do if, in order to press into something you’re believing for, you have to fast for 30 days when you already have trouble just raising your hands and crying out to Him?

What are you going to do if God calls you to have mercy on people who are despicable if crying out to Him is already too hard? I don’t think it’s my job to tell anybody how to cry out to God because I don’t believe in a method. I just know you have to cry out. It’s step No. 1.

You don’t have to lift your hands. It is about your heart. It’s about laying down your life and serving God in your life. I love the people in our church who are free enough to go ahead and worship God. If you’re not there yet, you need to get there with us. I want to encourage you and tell you that you are perfect as a drop-dead-sold-out Jesus-freak!

You don’t have to try to worship in an extravagant way to please us because we aren’t paying you any attention. We’re going to worship God whether you do or not. When we value the presence of God we rejoice in His presence.

We bought a house with a gate. I’ve never had a gate before. Every time I go through the gate I say, “I enter into these gates with praise and into His presence with thanksgiving, in the name of Jesus.” This brother is building a lifestyle and a culture where it’s just natural for me to be a worshipper all the time. Why would I do that? Because I value His presence and want more of Him.

What about you? Do you raise your hands or sit in silence? There is no wrong way to worship Him as long as your heart is crying out. Revival will not just happen. It begins with you. Let Him hear the cry of your heart – whether you shout it or whisper. Make it real.

“Those who worship God must worship Him in spirit and in truth.” – John 4:24

DROP THE MIC!

TODAY’S PROPHETIC THOUGHT

Do you believe Me when I say I have a plan and purpose for your life? Follow Me. I Am a good shepherd and I care for My sheep. I always lead you beside still waters, into green pastures and better things. Hear My voice saying, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”

DROP THE MIC

Time is one of my favorite subjects. I love books that deal with stewarding time, managing it and using the time that you have to the full. Jesus calls this “abundant” life. I’m talking about alignment and stewarding my life toward a purpose with purpose

Well, because I love this topic, I went to a T.D. Jakes “Maximizing the Moment” conference and I guarantee you there were thirty thousand people there. I decided before I got there that I was all in and this was going to change my life.

So I’m sitting there and I figured it’d take 30-40 minutes before my mind was actually blown – wrong. TD Jakes walked out to the stage, and the first words out of his mouth were like a bomb going off in my spirit.

“It is one thing for God to reveal to you His plan. It’s another thing for you to conform your life to the image of God’s plan.” – T.D. Jakes.

It was like, drop the mic, I’m done. I cannot tell you how that one statement changed my life. It’s one of the most profound experiences I’ve ever had with revelation knowledge and I went, “got it.” Because of that one statement, all these things lined up in that second and I’ve never been the same.

The power of God, the Holy Spirit, quickened that word and changed the life of Troy Brewer in a second. Alignment is a big part of my assignment. As your pastor, my assignment is to not only let you know God has a plan for you but that you can actually engage in it right now

Whether you’re churchy or not churchy, black, white, Hispanic, native American – whatever –  rich, poor, male or female, you can actually engage in the Kingdom, right now. Get into alignment for your assignment. Follow your shepherd – you know His voice – and He will lead you to your identity, purpose, and destiny. Conform your life to Him and you’ll never be the same.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.” – Proverbs 3:5-6
