A step outside the box

Some of our kids and grandkids were here last night. We cooked out and sat around in the stifling heat swatting at bugs and waiting for the sun to go down. My daughter-in-law talked me into going for a walk—a mile in the aforementioned heat nearly killed me. My son set up their telescope in the side yard and we all looked at the moon, Venus, and Saturn.
          Wow.         ...

The Introvert

Next week I'll be attending the RWA convention for the first time. Huge deal for me. While I have no problem striking up a cyber conversation, I'm in the dark when it comes to the art of mingling and networking in the real world.

I'm the person who'll sit at an empty table looking really interested in the drink I'm holding onto like it's the last drink on a desert planet. This year, I'm going to try to let my inner extrovert come out. Okay, that sentence sounded a little weird didn't it? But I...

Just Playing Around

I came to Sudoku late in life...okay, just late in the Sudoku craze. But I love the game. I've finished something like 20 books and DH even bought the computer game, filled with limitless puzzles..and one for my DS and another for my iPad.

My name is Kristi, and I'm a Sudoku addict.

The funny thing is, I've learned things from the game, and reinforced other firmly held beliefs. Like not giving up, that thinking outside the box is a good thing and that the best feeling is fitting that last piece...

Hot Summer Days

Good morning from Colorado. It's another scorcher here. Supposed to reach 90+ degrees. Ugh. I love summer--the hot days that make flowers grow, the lazy afternoons. But when it's so hot you can't even move without getting a sunburn, that's too much. Time to grab a book, some ice cold Pepsi and read.

Usually I have some writing analogy. Not today.  I'll catch you all up on where I'm at instead.

I'm working on my 4th Black Mountain book, Ride A Falling Star. I have the cover mode...

Family Traditions

Margie's post got me thinking about family traditions. I thought I'd share one of mine. The Fourth of July is over, but the weekend has just begun. I love it when holidays run close to the weekend. It means extra days off work for me. My brother, his girlfriend, and my niece flew in for the holiday. And as my family tends to do, we had a big seafood dinner. We don't limit these to just the holidays. Sometimes, we just get a wild hair and decide we're going to boil up some crabs or shrimp, or...

Summertime Favorites!

I think summer is my favorite season. As much as I love Spring and Fall - and y'all know my obsession with snow and winter - there is something magical about summer.

Long days that slide into hot nights. There are afternoons to be spent beside a pool. Boys to be ogled at the beach. There are family reunions and new friendships to be made at camp.

Plus there are sandals. All sorts of sandals. Flip-flops, slides, mules. Stilettos, flats, pumps. And to go with those sandals, really fun toe designs...

Building a Store

Who are these people, you ask, and why should I care?

You shouldn't necessarily. These are my co-workers at a retail store you probably recognize. The girl in the middle in the street clothes is my daughter, Brandi. We both started at this store before it was even open. It was a brand new store, new to our town.

When we walked into the building on our first day, the walls were bare. There were no clothes, no food, no electronics. Just piles and piles of boxes in the middle of the floor....

Monday's musings...

As we Wranglers have become way to adept at saying, I got nothin' today, so I'm going to meander a bit with apologies to all.

It's July 1, my sister-in-law's birthday. She was a year younger than me. Always pretty, always neat. Her house was shockingly clean. She worked in health care for years and was great at it. She was better with small children than anyone I've ever seen--my kids' gazes used to follow her adoringly and I didn't blame them. She died of ovarian cancer at 49. It was a terrib...
