Kate James and The Truth About Hope

The Wranglers are happy to welcome author Kate James to the round corral today. Kate is a fellow Harlequin Heartwarming author with an exciting new book, The Truth About Hope and a giveaway, but first she's answering questions!

Thank you for hosting me on your site!
1.    What, in your opinion, are the most important elements of good writing?
There are lots of textbook answers but I look at it simplistically. I write to entertain readers with well-written, engaging stories, set i...

Life, In a Movie Quote

I am a movie person. And a movie quote person. I can find a quote for almost anything. No. That's not a challenge.

When I was looking up a meme to post with this, I found this quote by Nora Ephron..How great is that?

But, back to my movie quotes. I've been thinking about one from When Harry Met Sally a lot lately. Unfortunately, there wasn't a meme for it.

When Sally finds out her ex-boyfriend is getting married to the girl he started dating immediately after they split up, she cries, "She wasn'...

Filling The Well

RadioMan and I went to a banquet last night, honoring child service workers, local police and other child-advocates. It was a really inspiring evening filled with great conversation and amazing food and some of our favorite people in the world.

As the keynote speaker was finished up, she looked from table to table, and reminded all of us to take time to replenish...because child service workers are some of the most overworked and underappreciated in the world (in my humble opinion) and burn-ou...

The Feast or Famine Dilemma

So, it's Editor Nan here today, and maybe it's not truly a dilemma like Kennedy’s Cuban Missile Crisis or whether it’s appropriate to wear my white jeans before Memorial Day, but being a freelance editor does often present difficult choices. It seems as if work comes in groups. Sometimes I spend a couple of weeks or even a month with no work at all and only a project or two way out on the horizon. When that happens, I start to panic and so I send out little reminders to my clients that I’m st...

Takeaway magic

I just got back from Indiana RWA’s “Making Magic” mini-conference. It was such a fun time. Lani Diane Rich and Alastair StephensThe program was excellent, the venue was beautiful, and the company was incomparable. The presenters, Story Wonk’s Lani Diane Rich and Alastair Stephens were...well, let’s go back to incomparable. They were, in true Midwestern vernacular, out-damn-standing.

          Truth is, at my p...

A DAY OF FREEDOM

Today is an anomaly.

It is my day off and I have nothing that I have to do. Oh, don't get me wrong--I have plenty of chores that I could--that I should do--but nothing that I have to do.

It's kind of mind-blowing how good that feels. Freedom. Unadulterated freedom.

Of course, if you stopped by my house and glanced at my yard, you might disagree with me. So far, the weather hasn't cooperated with my work schedule--raining on my days off, sunny while I'm working--so that I can get the lawn m...

A Golden Sky

Spring on the Nickel Plate TrailThere’s a gloss of gold out there this morning. I don’t know what creates it—something to do with how the sun comes up, I guess—but I think it is so beautiful. Duane’s asleep in the house, the cats have been fed and the dishwasher emptied. The laundry’s done. Spring breaks are over and all my family members that were traveling are home safe. I have started a new story that is fun and interesting because I don’t know it yet. I am almost frightened by the level o...
