What’s More Festive Than a Small Town at Christmas?

The Wranglers are happy to welcome guest author Alison Henderson to the round corral today. I've read (and loved) her book of Christmas short stories and am so glad she's come to tell you about it! - Liz

By Alison Henderson
We’re more than half-way through October, so are we all ready to start thinking about Christmas? I want to thank Liz and the other WordWranglers for inviting me to join you today to introduce my new short story collection Small Town Christmas Tales: Ten Short Holiday Romance...

The "Terroir" of Character

Greetings! As I’ve mentioned before, I have a passion for wine. I also am a Certified Specialist of both Wine and Spirits, and tend to incorporate wine concepts and terminology into my non-drinking activities. Like today’s topic: The Terroir of Character.

In wine, terroir(pronounced tehr-WAUHR, with a subtle “r” sound at the end) is a French-born concept of wine as an expression of its humble beginnings as a mere grape. According to the Oxford Dictionary, terroir is “the complete natural envir...

SECOND TAKE

Portland's Waterfrontby Margie Senechal

Agh! I had my post almost complete and went to get a picture and lost it. Okay, so I closed the window I was typing in without saving it.

I was going to write about the lack of stellar rom-com movies in recent years. Where have all the Sally's gone?

The last movie I remember "needing" to own was 2009's The Proposal. And I still find it funny, romantic, and ohhhh, Ryan Reynolds. Heavy sigh.

The best rom-com's have a finite balance of comedy and...

Sometimes, I Sew

the unsewn jelly roll - great colors! We have a lot of rainy, gloomy days here in the fall. Days that I love because there is nothing better than curling up with a good book and a warm blankie. A couple of weeks ago we had a day like that, but I didn't read - I sewed. Early this summer bebe and I started a new quilt project. When she was little I saw this cute jelly roll with animals and fun, bright, funky prints. It hit my fabric stash but I didn't do anything with it. The kiddo was loo...

Careful or You'll End Up In My Novel...

MoeSo, right off (we need a drum roll here), today is release day for our Liz Flaherty's yummy Christmas novella, The Gingerbread Heart --you can see the fabulous cover up there in our banner. Her story is part of a boxed set of 12 holiday novellas from a group of amazing authors--click and order, okay? Thanks!

This past weekend I took a couple of days away from editing gigs to take part in some fun activities. Saturday, we drove down to the hills about an hour south of home, met some friends a...

A little Christmas in October

by Liz Flaherty

Come Christmastime, I am drawn to traditions. My house starts looking and smelling like Christmas before the turkey’s even cold on Thanksgiving. When your family grows and changes around you, those traditions will grow and change, too. But how do you do that? Sometimes, like Cass Logan does in The Gingerbread Heart, you just have to take some of the sweetness of the old along on the road to the new.

This boxed set is available for pre-orde...

Barbara Bettis talks about SILVERHAWK

Welcome, Barb! We're glad to have you in the round corral this weekend!
Thanks for having me here to help celebrate the re-release of SILVERHAWK and THE HEART OF THE PHOENIX. But today I’d love to talk about the first book, SILVERHAWK, Sir Giles and Emelin’s story.
I’m celebrating by offering a copy of either book to one commenter.
Tell us about a favorite character from your book.
Oh, my, that’s hard to do. Everyone in SILVERHAWK is a favorite of mine. I adore Sir Giles, of course. He’s a mercen...

Ode to Autumn and Football and Rachel’s Guard

Yay, it’s Fall! The leaves on the trees are turning a beautiful array of warm colors, the days now begin with a refreshing crispness, and you can smell a bonfire wafting on the breeze at nearly every turn. For me, autumn brings to mind campfires and s’mores and a noticeable lack of bugs trying to bleed me dry.

For many, this is also the season for Football. Some could even argue the two are synonymous. While I'm more of a "Go, tea--ooh, corndogs!" kind of fan, I tend to agree.
So what is a...

A Dying Art

When I was a teenager, my favorite time of day was when the mail came. I used to stalk the mailbox waiting for the mail.

Why? Well, probably because I had no life. But, no, it was because I had a dozen pen pals and at any day, I might get a letter.  Some pen pals lasted the duration of a summer, while others saw my through high school.

The first letter I know I wrote was to my grandparents while we were stationed in Iceland. And it is hilarious. "Did you know we had a sister? Her name is W...

#WriterWednesday: Play The Song

It's release week! It's release week! I know, I've had several over the past couple of months and guess what - it's not slowing down! And I love it.

Light My Fire, Start Me Up and Call Me are three of my absolute favorite books, and a big part of the reason is music. I've told you guys before that I like to write to music (jazz/classical as I'm drafting and more personal stuff as I'm editing). While I'm drafting a book, songs will pop into my head that seem to fit the hero or heroine or the th...
