Novel vs. Novella

On our Michigan writing/vacation odyssey, Liz and I talked about everything  two women on the road could possibly talk about, but it seemed the conversation always came back to story. Probably inevitable given we are both very avid storytellers. If you don't know that already, then you definitely need to hit our Amazon author pages, which are here (Liz) and here (Nan). Go ahead and click now. I can amuse myself while you check them out.

Oh, you're back! Pretty cool stuff, huh?

Perso...

In the beginning...

by Liz Flaherty

This doesn't go with the blog--I just love it. Have you ordered it yet?Hey, we're home! It was such a grand time. But I am always glad to be home. I'm pretty sure Nan is, too, and the Boys are glad to see us. It's all good. Thank you all for traveling with us last week.

So, what shall we talk about?

Prologues--who said that? Okay, fine with me.

The prologue, according to Merriam-Webster, is "the preface or introduction to a literary work." Hmm... Okay. I don't see anything in that...

Postcards From the Road--Day 6 - Saugatuck

I'm actually starting this on the night of Day 5. We just got in from dinner at Phil's Bar and Grille, which was really, really good. Crowded enough we waited for a half hour or so and would have waited a lot longer if we hadn't met Maureen and Wilma in line and they invited us to join them and Keith and Chuck. What a great time it was. We talked about marketing, about St. Joseph College in Rensselaer, Indiana, about growing up Italian and Catholic, and about Chuck's mother having eight...

Postcards from the Road--Day 5, Grand Haven and Holland

Nan here--Day 5 began with breakfast and checking out of the glorious Shoreline Inn in Muskegon. Seriously, if you're ever headed for Muskegon, consider staying there--it's beautiful and I'd go back in a heartbeat! We sat and chatted in the dining room for about two hours, which means we lingered over cereal, but Lizzie and I have no problem lingering over any food and conversation. Finally, we packed up and got on the road in the rain...

We headed south without benefit of Gigi's counsel beca...

Postcards from the Road, Day 4 - Muskegon

We’re working tonight. No, really, we are. We’re in the dining room of the hotel, which everyone who knows me understands is one of my favorite places in the world to work. On my first book, when I had edits to do—God, that was so exciting!—Duane took me to the Hampton Inn in Kokomo, Indiana for the night. He watched TV while I sat downstairs for hours fixing and cringing and being excited because...wow, edits! I was one of the big girls now, for sure.
So here we are in Michigan. Working away...

Postcards From the Road--Day 3 Pentwater/Ludington

Hey, all, Nan here! Our view this morning over to the left there. At least three times a day, one of us says, "Wow, what a great room we've got!" I could so wake up to this every day!!

We got a good start this morning by deciding to use my memory instead of Gigi and it was a peaceful ride to Pentwater. I actually remembered how to get there and we were so jacked to wander that cute little town and check out the shops. However, when we got there about 80 percent of the shops were closed! Seriou...

Postcard From the Road--Day 2, Whitehall

Happy Tuesday—it’s Liz. We started the day with a beautiful sunrise over Muskegon Lake. That was some kind of gorgeous. Then we took off for Whitehall and this way cool lighthouse whose name I can’t remember—what is it, Nan? Anyway, here’s a life preserver thing from the Edmund Fitzgerald. Seeing it made me sad for the 29 who died and their families. Made me think of the husband, too. He sings that song.

He plays the guitar, too, though he’s never played one like this. He’s never even suggeste...

Postcards From the Road--Day 1

Hi, everybody, Nan, here. Liz and I are settling into our hotel located on beautiful Muskegon Lake. Check out the view from our window! This harbor is just below us and in a bit, we're heading down for supper in either the hotel bar/grill or the restaurant next door.

We got an early start, packed my car full--I mean really full and headed north. My navigation system, whom I affectionately named Gigi, took us on every back road imaginable getting up here. It occurred to me quite a while into re...

Postcards from...

by Liz Flaherty

Yes, I know it's Sunday and we don't post on Sundays, but this week is a little different. Nan and I are starting on a road trip in the morning. We'll be gone all week, doing a girlfriends-writers thing, but we'll check in every day with pictures and stories. Our own little Postcards from the Edge...er... the Road.

I've been packing and unpacking for the last several days. Nan said she didn't want to overpack, but if she doesn't, I won't be able to borrow her clothes, so where w...
