Author Spotlight: Renee Lovins

Today, instead of talking about myself, I want to take the opportunity to talk about another exciting author: Renee Lovins.

Renee Lovins has her second romance, “Glass Hearts,” on pre-order, and I think you’re gonna like it! It’s a modern-day take on Cinderella, complete with sexy hero and sassy heroine. There’s no bibbity-bobbity-boo or singing mice (remember, it’s modern-day), so they have to find their Happily Ever After another way. In Renee’s own words, “I got stuck on the idea of do...

Taking Back The Pride

 by Margie Senechal

 So, I've been thinking...

I take pride in my work. When I build an endstand, I tend to maintain it--even if it's not in my department as these two Christmas examples aren't. But, I made them and want them to stay "pretty" despite customers hanging shirts from the side or placing a watch and bottle on the shelf.

When I work in an aisle, I like to see the improvement, the signature touches that say "Margie was here".

I am a good merchandiser. I have a good eye and enj...

#NewRelease: Spotlight on Modern Magic

Hey, readers! We're really excited to put the spotlight on a brand-spanking-new anthology. It's called Modern Magic: A Quartet of Fractured Fairytales and features Crimson Romance authors Jennifer DeCuir, Stephanie Cage, Andrea R. Cooper and Nancy C. Weeks.

Blurb for Modern Magic: A Quartet of Fractured Fairy Tales

What if Cinderella ditched the prince's ball and sent her fairy godmother to find love in her place?

Suppose a streetwise hero hired to steal an all-powerful Genie (stuck in a fl...

Nothin' . . . Yeah, Me, Too. . .

Remember last week, when Margie posted that she had nothin'? And yet she gave us fun stuff--just sort of a stream of consciousness blog full of her day, which actually turned out to be pretty cool, I thought. How I wish I had even that much to say. I don't, but here’s a sweet picture of Grandboy doing the Luke Danes backward-baseball-cap thing. (It's a Gilmore Girls reference, look it up.)

I'm writing this on Monday night at 11:15 after having just binge-watched four episodes of Season 2 o...<![endif]--><!--[if gte mso 9]>

Just a day

by Liz Flaherty

It has been so busy lately that I feel like there hasn't been time to draw a decently deep breath, much less just fritter time away or think about things just because I can or--gasp!--waste a couple of hours just because they're there.

There's been a lot of promotion going on. For A Heartwarming Christmas. For a free Thanksgiving story. For a brand new right-out-of-the-box newsletter. For my April of 2016 book, Every Time We Say Goodbye. Even a little in passing for Kristi's fab...

Reunited and it Feels so Good

I took a nearly six-month hiatus from my writing this summer.

First, I entered the RWA’s Future, Fantasy, & Paranormal chapter’s On the Far Side Contest in May. Waiting with bated breath for the results left little air for the creative muse to function. Plus, sitting on pins and needles made me a little too antsy to sit and write.
Then, I judged several entries to the Indiana RWA Chapter’s Golden Opportunity writing contest during July and August. Each one took several hours, which was...

When You've Got Nothing

I got nothing this morning. Literally nothing. So, I'm taking the advice from many of writers and sitting down to begin typing. The words will come, we've been told, if only we keep our butt in the chair.

I really need to fold that laundry and get the rest of the load into the dryer.

There's a breeze creeping in from the window. Maybe I should shut the inner window as well. But, then I'd have to take my inspirational coasters down and just stack them.

Have you guys watched Quantico? The sh...

#NewRelease: Read an excerpt from Kristina Knight's First Love Again

Hey, everyone! It's release week for me, and I'm so excited (still) I keep randomly wandering around my house with a goofy grin on my face.

First Love Again  is my tenth book (not counting anthologies or boxed sets), and I have to say the release of a book never gets old. There is a lot of work that leads up to the release (writing the book, natch, but also setting up blog tours and editing and cover art and more editing and on and on), and then the book is out there its like this huge rel...

Why Copy Editors Drink

I've been busy preparing a presentation for the Indiana RWA Retreat this month, trying to sort out what I want to tell the participants about being a copy editor. My theme is "Why Copy Editors Drink," and my struggle is figuring what the most important information is to impart in my brief time. Here's the thing, a lot of what I do is cleaning up simple errors--stuff that, if writers knew not to do them, my job would be so much less time-intensive and I could focus on the meat of their stories...

November, sweet memories, and Turkey Run

In May of this year, seven other writers and I went to Turkey Run State Park for a retreat. It was a
time some of us needed, some of us just wanted, and all of us enjoyed. We ate, we brainstormed, we talked, we firmed up friendships that had been firm anyway, we drank wine. I had the best time and I hope the others did, too, but I remember whining a little to Nan that I didn't get as much work done as I would have liked.

Several months later, an opportunity came up to write a short Thanks...
