My Favorites On a Sick Day

I absolutely love the Dayquil/Nyquil commercial about moms and sick days. Partially because, like Nan and Liz, I've been struggling with a yukky cold for a couple of weeks now. Not enough to really, truly put me down, but enough that I don't feel like sitting at my computer and writing. I'm doing it, but I'd rather be doing something else. Anything. Else.

Which brings me to the point of today's post: my favorite things to do when I'm sick. You know, sick enough to not be at the computer but no...

Yeah, Me, Too...

Like Liz, I'm one of those rare Baby Boomers who's never actually smoked grass or been high on anything illegal, although I do enjoy the occasional lovely wine buzz... However, there's nothing at all enjoyable about cough syrup and antibiotics and that has been my life for the past few days. Between the coughing and the sneezing and the headache and the ear pain (Yow!!) and the stuffy sinuses, I've been pretty darn miserable.

I have no qualms about showing you the selfie--me in my flannel squi...

Rocky Mountain High? Nah--just Mucinex.

by Liz Flaherty I will admit at the outset that I took a selfie to show you just how I looked this week and scared myself to death, so, no, I'm not putting it here. Just think Medusa on steroids and you've got it. Then let me assure you that other than borrowing a few prescription diet pills from a friend once (God, they were great--I didn't lose any weight, but I caught up on ALL the family ironing. I think they were speed.), I've never taken an illegal drug. I've never even smoked pot. I am...

I Resolve to be Resolute!

Happy 2016!

While everyone else seems to have chosen a word to define and guide their year, I thought I’d take a moment to share my New Year’s resolutions. Normally, I don’t even bother making resolutions, because I think they are a futile effort… a Murphy’s Law sort of declaration of what you don’t want to accomplish over the next 365 days. And the idea of one simple word to encapsulate my year is enticing.

However, I'm a list kind of gal. I like to check things off (even as I add more!). and...

And The Word Is--

Last year I was determined.

The year before I was magical---which I stole from Liz. She was the one who introduced me to the idea of picking a word to inspire your year. She seems to have lifted the practice from author Holly Jacobs.

If I could change anything about myself, it would be to stop being a procrastinator. I have tried. Honestly.
But, I always tend to fall back into old patterns.

I know I'm not going to change overnight, but maybe just one decision at a time. So, my word for the...

Wrapping up 2015 & My New Word Of The Year

It really doesn't feel like it should be January 6th already, and it especially doesn't feel like it should be 2016, but I've consulted three calendars (2 digital, 1 paper) and it seems that it is, in fact, January 6, 2016. Which means I really need to get my head wrapped around 2016 and my goals for the year.

Which brings me to my word for the year. Which takes me back to this time last year when I shared my word for 2015: That word was ENJOY, and here's a little about why I liked it:

"...taki...

More on the Zone...

...because Liz made me start thinking about writing zones yesterday and what that means. I said in a comment on her post that I wasn't sure what my zone is, but I think I can definitely say what it isn't.

I'm not an erotica writer of any kind--I don't read it except for clients and crit partners and I just can't write it. It's not my thing, although I defend vigorously anyone's right to read or write erotica. I'm not a paranormal writer for the same reason. Just not my thing, although again, I...

So--where's your zone?

By Liz Flaherty
We’re back! Welcome to 2016—we hope your holidays were wonderful!
I’ve written a dozen or so books now. Actually, if I look under the virtual bed, I’ve written a lot more than that, but that’s neither here nor there for the sake of this discussion. I imagine my voice has changed over the years. I don’t hear the changes, but I’m sure readers do. Sometimes over the 16 or 17 years I’ve been published—I can never remember what year the first book came out, only that it was in the la...

May the Force (of a good book) be with us all!

I’m writing this on the eve of a movie premiere I have waited over thirty years to see. By the time you read this, I will probably be ensconced in a comfy seat, snacking on a large tub of buttered popcorn, reading the scrolling prologue narrative on a large theatre screen. If you remember I’m a Sci-Fi geek, then you know I’m talking about the much-heralded newest Star Wars chapter: The Force Awakens.

Don’t worry, I’m not going to spend this blog musing about the many facets—good and bad—of th...
