Make-up and Monikers

So, I’ve started wearing makeup again after a long hiatus. Make-up had been part of my daily routine off and on throughout my life, but when my hubby told me “Why do you put that stuff on your face? You’re beautiful without it”… Well, I was perfectly happy to reallocate those ten minutes toward sleep.

That was several years ago.
Not me. But you get the idea :-)
Recently, I’ve been trying to reconfigure myself, for lack of a better term. I’m trying to eat better, exercise, style my hair instead o...

The Ice Cream Cure

by Margie Senechal

Yesterday, I had a killer headache. And that got me thinking about ice cream and the role it played in my childhood.

The first thing you should know is my Dad loved ice cream. Often at night, he had a small bowl--as he was diabetic--before he went to bed. He ate mostly vanilla but there were times when he'd have me or one of my sisters run down to the nearest DQ. Peanut Buster Parfaits all around.

My first actual memory of ice cream was when I was around six and w...

Peek Into Billionaire Cowboy 2!

It's release week again, WordWranglers! The second book in my Billionaire Cowboys trilogy (Connor and Miranda's story) released on Monday!! That's the cover over there. Isn't is a little bit sexy and dangerous and ... pretty? I love it because it says Las Vegas to me...and you guys know my love for Vegas!

The trilogy is set in Las Vegas (naturally), and the characters split time fairly equally between the Rocking R (the brother's ranch) and their downtown Las Vegas businesses.

And here's a fun...

Writing Characters

You know, I'm kind of scattered right now. I'm going to blame the fact that I just spent four days on the road with Liz at a writer's conference. I'm still in that hazy post-conference place where I'm full of ideas, trying to sort through all the information I learned, and remember all the people I met and frankly, unpack and do laundry. However, I had a ball--I always do when I travel with Liz and the conference was fun. Some new and interesting developments came out of Spring Fling for me,...

Just one rule...

"There's only one rule left. Just one. I think it needs to be left alone."

"Oh, me, too."
I may have the words a little wrong and I am so sorry not to remember the full name of the indie author I was talking to. Her first name is Selena and she knows Kristi from their Crimson Romance days. We were talking at dinner at the Chicago North Spring Fling over the weekend, about how things had changed in romance. How many things were better. How one of us--that would be me--missed some things about th...

Spring Fling Day 3

1:45 pm: Nan here, Day 3 started early for us--I had pitch appointments starting at 8 a.m., so breakfast was a quickie instant (and pricey!) oatmeal at Starbuck's in the hotel. Pitches all went well--I got requests for full manuscripts from three of the four editors I pitched and the agent I just met with also asked to see a full. I'm calling it a success. Now Liz and I are outside in the courtyard waiting for the book signing to start at 3:00. That's Liz working on her novel. We'll be back w...

Day Two of On the Road

12:00 - Sitting at a wobbly little table in the lobby chowing down. Had a long workshop session this morning. The vibe feels different at this year's conference--maybe missing Indy friends--but still a good thing. We're just getting started on the workshops, spotlights, and heroine-worship opportunities that that keynote speakers bring with them. Not much time to report--check back in later!
Liz again at 5:50. Great publisher spotlights and I'm doing fan geekiness over seeing Robyn Carr--I won...

On the road with Nan and Liz...

6:45 AM - In the office with tea and frizzy hair. If you walk through the living room, you'll trip over my suitcase, computer bag, essentials bag, shoe bag, and...oh, I'm not taking that. I'll leave to pick up Nan about 9:00 and we'll start the three-hour...cough, cough...okay, five-hour drive to Chicago. I have no idea why we never just drive somewhere, but we always have to stop. For new shoes--there's a great store in Monticello--and for wine, in case they don't sell it in Chicago--and for...

Let Your Light Shine

On Mother's Day at our church, the women's group handed out this little devotional book to all the moms. Each of the devotionals is related to a passage of scripture (don't worry, I'm not going to preach at  you), and as I was thumbing through, one of them caught my eye, and I thought..hey, that's something we can all relate to.

It's titled Let Your Light Shine, and it's based on a verse in Matthew 5 - feel free to read it on your own, if you're so inclined - about being a light. Whether...
