I Believe . . .
. . . in the spiritual precepts of Simple Abundance. You may know Sara Ban Breathnach's timeless Daybook of Comfort and Joy that was published in the mid-1990s. It is my go-to book when I need to rediscover my own spirituality. Her truths are just as valid today as they were some 20 years ago, and every other year, I take up my now-battered copy of the book and reread the meditations—starting on January 1 and reading one each day. I love finding notes that I’ve scribbled in the margins and ex...

The more things change...
by Liz Flaherty
My new book, Every Time We Say Goodbye, came out Friday. Which was, you will remember, April Fool's Day. Ahem. Really? It is up to you to prove that having a book released on that day is just the best thing ever to happen to a writer. Is that a broad enough hint? If you read it, I hope you like it. I will speak for all writer friends here and hope you review the books you read, too--especially if you like them.

Finding Happy

In junior high, Mr. Ray, my journalism teacher, wrote this is in my yearbook, "Strive to be happy."
The fact that I don't remember anything anyone else wrote tells you how much that statement has meant to me over the years.
So, this week, I thought I'd share some things that have brought me happiness.
The Sun. For a few days, the rain has abated and the sun is shining. As I write this, I hear a lawn mower in the distance, birds chirpping, and the light rustle of leaves on...

Sneak Peek: Protecting the Quarterback!

What the actual heck, guys! Where has 2016 gone? It seems like we were just all sharing our words for the year and now we're one-third of the way through the year...and pretty soon we'll be thinking up Christmas lists and new New Years Words and...
I have to stop thinking about this before I give myself a panic attack. Where were we?
Oh, yeah, release day! I'm so excited f...

The Mystery Photograph
I’m with Liz—I’m just not in the mood to talk about writing and her blog yesterday reminded me of something interesting I thought I’d share with you guys. This will connect, I promise.
A couple of weeks ago I had lunch with my cousin, Kay, and as it always does, our conversation turned to genealogy and family history—that happens to us a lot because Kay is genealogist and I’m a huge history buff. We got around to “the wedding photo,” which we both have saved on our phones because this pho...<![endif]--><!--[if gte mso 9]>

For better, for worse...
by Liz Flaherty
I'm burned out on writing about writing. I think I've said that before (I've said everything before, right?), but it doesn't alter the fact. So I'm not going to talk about writing this week. Instead, I dug for something old that I may or may not have used before. In the excavation, I found this post I did for Gem State Writers in 2012. It's a September blog, not a March one, but it's a favorite of mine. I hope you like it. Have a great week.
