Female Friends
At the beginning of Provoking Odium, Briella, the heroine, is alone in the universe. She has intentionally emotionally isolated herself, fearing she would be hurt, would be rejected yet again.
At the end of Provoking Odium, Briella has Odium, a male she trusts with all of her. (This isn’t a spoiler as I clearly state Provoking Odium is a romance.)
But as importantly, Briella has friends, female friends. Mohini, the heroine of Grin And Bare Him (releasing in November), befriends her. As do some of the females she meets on Mercury Minor.
IMHO… friendships are very important for our emotional wellbeing. That includes virtual friendships.
I consider many of you to be my friends and I value our relationships. (big hugs)

Muse Food – Thunderbird House Post
I love practical items that also serve decorative and/or religious/cultural purposes.
The Dear Wonderful Hubby spotted this beautiful house post in a Vancouver-area park.
As per the sign…
“Thunderbird House Post
Carved house posts are used in traditional First Nations cedar houses to support the huge roof beams.
This pole is a replica of a house post carved by Kwakwaka’wakw artist Charlie James in the early 1900s.
Tony Hunt carved this replica in 1987 to replace the older pole now in the Vancouver Museum.
James experimented with colours and techniques creating a bold new style that has influenced generations of artists including his step-son Mungo Martin and grand-daughter Ellen Neel.”
According to the sign, the post depicts a grizzly bear holding a human.

Cyborgs, in the past, wouldn’t have ever considered carving gorgeous images into their structures’ support beams.
They tended to focus on the functional. Their weapons were plain. Their structures were devoid of decoration.
The warriors’ views are changing, however, as they meet their genetic matches and experience different cultures. Some of the cyborgs (like Strive) are also exploring their creative sides.
I expect beauty will be a consideration going forward.

The Lost City And Series Fatigue
Warning: This post will talk about The Lost City, an awesome movie starring Sandra Bullock as a Romance Writer and Channing Tatum as a Cover Model. The spoilers will be very light but you might wish to read this post after you’ve watched the movie.
The Dear Wonderful Hubby and I finally watched The Lost City and stars, we enjoyed it so very much. It was funny and had unexpected twists and a great Romance Novel ending.
Which is appropriate as Loretta Sage, the heroine, writes Romance Novels and Dash, the hero, is a Romance Novel Cover Model.
I loved this movie also because it discusses a very real issue Romance Writers sometimes face – series fatigue.
Loretta has series fatigue. She has been writing about the same couple for multiple books and can’t think up a new interesting adventure for the two characters to embark on.
She sees only one solution – she has to end the series.
Except no one else wants her to do that. Her readers, Dash, her publisher, etc., all want more books in the series.
The cure she takes for series fatigue has been effective for many writers, including myself.
Loretta is forced out of the writing cave and spends time in the greater world, having adventures and interacting with non-writing folks and surrounding herself with inspiration.
I force myself to leave the writing cave every so often also. I take a break. The Dear Wonderful Hubby and I usually travel.
All that greater world stimulation propels my muse into hyperdrive. Ideas and words flow. I return to the writing cave eager to write the next story. It is very exciting.
This solution doesn’t work for everything but it is well worth a try!

Start Of Fall/Autumn
I know yesterday was officially the first day of Fall/Autumn in the Northern Hemisphere but I have been thinking Autumn thoughts since September 1st. (grins)
It is time to wind down the garden for 2022 but also prepare it for Spring 2023.
I read a recent study that revealed bumblebees, due to climate change, were emerging from their homes before the flowers they normally live off presented themselves. This is causing them great strife.
The Dear Wonderful Hubby and I are planting crocus, hoping the Mafia Squirrels don’t eat those bulbs (We bought the squirrel resistant kind but that only slows the furry little menaces. They don’t stop them.). Crocus, in my area of the world, often bloom before the snow melt and the bumblebees LOVE them.
To prepare for Autumn, I’m also breaking out the sweaters so we’re ready for the cooler weather. (smiles) And we’re stocking up on apple cider.

Throwback Thursday – Ghost Of A Machine
Ghost is one of my favorite cyborgs. He is so very broken. His ‘gift’, when we first meet him, has become a curse. He is haunted by all the beings he hasn’t been able to save. The emotional damage that has caused him has turned him into a beast, operating on instinct alone.
Lethe, his female, is the only being who can reach his shattered brain and disconnected processors. She is attracted to him, of course. Who wouldn’t be? (grins) But she also wants the ship he has ‘captured.’
Lethe and Ghost are magical together. The pain they’ve both endured makes their bond even tighter.
Fragile. Stubborn. His.
Ghost, a C Model cyborg, has disconnected his machine from his human side. Severely damaged, he knows two things—the curvy human female on his ship belongs to him and he must keep her safe. He’ll stop at nothing to protect her, claim her, make her his.
Primitive. Damaged. Hers.
Lethe has seen the savage side of beings. The courageous Rebel captain has never met a male like Ghost. Overpoweringly dominant, he appeals to her on a primal level, filling her mind with thoughts of sweet surrender, hard kisses, and body-heating encounters against the warship’s walls.
They are two broken beings, one determined to protect, the other intent on flying into danger. Can love heal them both before they face their common enemy?

Cynthia Sax Weekly Update – September 18th
Grin And Bare Him, the second story in the Cyborg Unity series (releasing in November) has been sent to my Awesome Formatter aka the Dear Wonderful Hubby. He is super busy with his day job right now but he has that formatting task in his queue.
Over Torque, the December FREE short story, has been sent to my Awesome Editor. She’s super busy also (it IS September, which is a busy time for many people) but it is in her equally long queue.
I’m now back to working on Raw Desires, the third core story in the Cyborg Unity series (releasing likely in February). The first draft is zipping along.

Using My Fancy Notebooks
Like many writers and readers, I have a HUGE collection of beautiful notebooks. I collect them. I store them. I don’t usually use them.
Until this year.
This year, I decided to start using these gorgeous notebooks. I picked out one and allocated it to my daily to-do lists. It felt very naughty to write in it. It was a bit stressful at first. The notebook was too pretty to use.
But writing in the fancy notebook felt…luxurious, decadent. My to-do lists seemed more special. I enjoyed writing the tasks down…and crossing them off.
Today, I’m writing in the last page of that notebook. My treat for completing my to-do list is picking out the next notebook to use.
And I will ALWAYS have a next notebook to use because I collect them faster than I could ever use them. (grins)
