Throwback Thursday – Warlord Unarmed
Murad, the hero of Warlord Unarmed, is a different type of Warlord. While his brothers rely on battle strategy or fighting skills to defend their planets, Murad relies on the technology he and his Chameles design to keep his kind safe.
Murad is one of the most beta heroes I’ve written. He is secure in his intelligence and he doesn’t need to speak loudly or rattle swords to convince beings to follow him.
Which works for Gale, his gerel or mate. (grins) She values that quiet strength.
Warlord Unarmed
Protected by the Barbarian Warrior

Murad, a technology-loving Chamele Warlord, has to track down and eliminate a rogue warrior before that male ends Murad’s reign. Permanently.
When a pieced-together wreck of a ship enters the sector without authorization, Murad assumes it is piloted by an ally of his enemy and decides to blow the battered vessel out of open space.
Then he hears the voice of its sole occupant and his orders and his priorities immediately shift. The captain of the ship is his gerel, the one female he’s genetically compatible with—the light to his darkness, his future, his everything.
He will protect her…even if it costs him his life.
Bounty hunter Gale doesn’t want or need protection. She has entered Chamele space on a rescue mission. A tall, muscular, half-naked barbarian with humor-lit eyes and gentle hands won’t distract her from that purpose, no matter what he tries.
A broken ship and an enemy focused on revenge do interfere with her plans. Gale’s goal changes from saving a friend to saving herself. The only being who can increase her chances of survival is the one Warlord she can’t resist.

Grin And Bare Him And Expectations
Parents often have expectations for us.
In my family, my Awesome Mom dearly wished that we’d all go to university/college. She went to university on a full scholarship (for Latin – grins) and she had a wonderful time. She had to quit when she contracted mono and lost her scholarship (she worries now for the scholarship students dealing with COVID) but she wanted that same joy for us.
All six of us did go to university. Not all of us graduated but we had the university experience. And we met my Awesome Mom’s expectations for us.
If we hadn’t gone to university/college, my Awesome Mom would have been disappointed but her love for us wouldn’t have decreased. We all knew that.
Not everyone’s parents or ‘makers’ would have been that understanding.
Grin, the hero of Grin And Bare Him (releasing in November), was manufactured for battle for example. The Humanoid Alliance expected him to fight and fight well.
Grin wasn’t interested in fighting. As a result, his skills were…suboptimal. The Humanoid Alliance’s response to that was harsh. He was slotted for decommissioning, would have been killed if he hadn’t escaped.
Freedom saved his lifespan but it didn’t delete expectations for him. Other beings assume he’s a skilled warrior because he’s a cyborg. Many of his cyborg brethren find his lack of interest in battle unusual.
Grin knows this. And he expects this…even from his newly-located female.

Grin And Bare Him – Mohini’s Name
Mohini is the heroine of Grin And Bare Him, the second story in the Cyborg Unity series (releasing in November). We first met her in Provoking Odium.
Mohini is named after the Hindu goddess of enchantment. Which is apt because she has the ability to persuade beings to do what she wants them to do. She uses more than convincing arguments. Her ability is more like a form of deep hypnosis.

Muse Food – Harbingers
While the Dear Wonderful Hubby and I were trekking around Halifax, Nova Scotia, this huge crow landed on a car near us.
We looked at each other and said at the same time, “We’re going on a quest.” (laughs)
In stories, writers often warn readers a change or important event will soon take place. And often, in fantasy stories, that warning is the spotting of a crow or raven or some other unusual or special creature.
Their arrival tells readers they should brace themselves for a shift in the story. We should pay close attention. Something exciting will soon happen!

Cynthia Sax Weekly Update – October 2nd
The Dear Wonderful Hubby and I met this calico cat on a rough part of a trail. He guided us down the path, often looking back at us to ensure we were okay. There was food and water left by the sides of the trail. I think many people were grateful for his assistance!The final version of Grin And Bare Him, the second story in the Cyborg Unity series (releasing in November), has been loaded to the booksellers. It should be good to go on release day!
Over Torque, this year’s FREE thank you short story (available for download in December), remains with my Awesome Editor. I am expecting to receive the first round edits next week.
I continue to craft the first draft of Raw Desires, the third core story in the Cyborg Unity series (releasing in February). I love Raw. I love his VERY angry human female. They are magical together.
Have a wonderful first week in October, my friends. (big hugs) If it is Fall/Autumn where you are, touch a pumpkin. March through some fallen leaves. Listen to them crunch under your boots. Balvan, from Dark Strength, would love that sound. Eat a cookie. Embrace the changes all around you!

The Hero Of Grin And Bare Him
Grin is, of course, the hero of Grin And Bare Him, the second story in the Cyborg Unity series (releasing in November).
We first meet Grin in Breathing Vapor. He is a K Model like the hero. In that story, he seems to be destined for decommissioning. His battle skills aren’t at the desired cyborg levels. Only their escape from their manufacturing and training facility saves his lifespan.
This has definitely shaped Grin. He isn’t like many of his brethren and he processes that.
Which is okay because Mohini, his female, isn’t like the rest of her kind. (grins)

Preparing For First Frost
First frost in my corner of the universe is within the first two weeks in October. When that occurs, my tomato plants and my bell pepper plants will die and all the fruit remaining on those plants will spoil.
I don’t know when first frost will truly be. Weather predictions have been wrong in the past.
So I’m picking quite a few of the larger tomatoes while they are green and bringing them inside the house. I place them in shallow cardboard boxes (thank you, chocolate and book deliveries- grins) and will monitor them, waiting for them to ripen.
It takes almost a month for a completely green tomato to ripen inside our house. That means we’ll have fresh tomatoes during the entire month of October, which is AWESOME.
I’m also picking the bell peppers. They remain green and they would be considered a small green pepper in the grocery store but hey, they taste great!
(Next year, I’ll start the bell peppers earlier. I added them to the gardening mix at the last minute this year.)
I’m super happy with the veggie garden this year. I’ll definitely have one again next year.

Throwback Thursday – Warlord’s Bounty
The last Throwback Thursday pick of September 2022 is…
Warlord’s Bounty.
This is the story that started the series. I wrote it before any of the others because…well… Khan. (bites fist) I love him.
Khan is an over the top alpha alien warrior who believes battle is all he’ll truly have. Chameles have fated mates or gerels and he knows he doesn’t have such a match in his sector.
His fated mate is an equally battle-happy human bounty hunter from a distant sector. (grins) Zeta is kick a$$ and driven and she has no time for romance with the big sexy barbarian she’s tracking.
Warlord’s Bounty
Wanted: One Barbarian Warrior.
The bigger the bounty, the more dangerous the target.
Khan, a Chamele Warlord, has a huge bounty on his head. His enemy wants him captured and is offering any being in the universe an outrageous number of credits to accomplish that.
Khan wants to be captured, but only if the being apprehending him is a tiny, brown-eyed female with wickedly sharp daggers and an even sharper tongue. His passion for the feisty human can’t be inhibited by restraints. He’ll allow her to subdue him…in a variety of enticing ways.
When she finally collects her credits, he’ll collect his revenge, killing his enemy and claiming his little bounty hunter forever.
Zeta doesn’t do forever. After a lifespan of chasing dangerous beings across galaxies, apprehending and trading them for credits, she doesn’t get involved emotionally…with anyone.
Khan might be fierce and sexy and the most dominant male she has ever encountered, but the barbarian is also her target, and once she sates herself with his body, she’ll betray him.
That’s her job.

Female Friends
At the beginning of Provoking Odium, Briella, the heroine, is alone in the universe. She has intentionally emotionally isolated herself, fearing she would be hurt, would be rejected yet again.
At the end of Provoking Odium, Briella has Odium, a male she trusts with all of her. (This isn’t a spoiler as I clearly state Provoking Odium is a romance.)
But as importantly, Briella has friends, female friends. Mohini, the heroine of Grin And Bare Him (releasing in November), befriends her. As do some of the females she meets on Mercury Minor.
IMHO… friendships are very important for our emotional wellbeing. That includes virtual friendships.
I consider many of you to be my friends and I value our relationships. (big hugs)
