Bringing The Geraniums Inside The House
I live in a corner of the universe that enjoys a snowy, cold winter. Any plants that don’t have deep roots die over that period.
Which means I bring some of my plants inside the house from first frost to last frost. Some of those plants are the durable, constantly blooming geraniums.
There are quite a few ways people can overwinter geraniums. Some folks pull them out of the ground, shake off the dirt and store them in paper bags in a cool, dry place. Some folks trim them severely and store the entire container inside the house.
I dig them out of the ground, repot them, put them by a window and enjoy the flowers all winter.
The trick is to do this before the first frost. (sheepish grin) I sometimes leave this transfer too late.

Muse Food – Haunted Houses And The Importance Of Stories
Is Two Meeting Street Inn in Charleston, South Carolina, USA haunted? It was built in the 1890s so it likely is haunted but there are no great ghost stories, as far as I know, attached to it.When the Dear Wonderful Hubby and I travel, one of the pieces of research I love to do is learn about all the haunted houses and other ghostly visitors in the location.
Almost all old houses have been the site of at least one human death. Heck, EVERYWHERE on this planet has been the site of a human death. And if you believe spirits linger where they’ve died, well…then everywhere is haunted.
The difference between a historic house and a haunted house is the story. A haunted house has an awesomely spooky ghost story attached to it.
And that story makes the historic house special.
THAT is the power of a great story.

Cynthia Sax Weekly Update – October 22
Intrepid Encounter, the fifth core story in the Cyborg Unity series (releasing in November), has been loaded to the online booksellers and should be ready for its quickly approaching release day. (grins) I can’t wait for you to read this story, my friends. I think it will make you smile.
Hacking Hazard, this year’s exclusive-to-newsletter-subscribers short story (to be downloaded for free in December), is still with my Awesome Editor. As it is a short story, the three rounds of edits should fly by. (I hope.) Formatting will take the same amount of time, however.
I had a few false starts with Strike Zone, the first core story in the Dauntless Cyborgs series (releasing in February). But I think I’ve figured it out. (I hope. I am saying that a lot today.-grins) This part of the cyborg universe will start out with a bang (in more ways than one – laughs). I’m excited to find out what happens next!

The Halloween Spirit
My siblings and I haven’t been physically kids in many, MANY years. (grins)
Yet we get super excited about Halloween.
I send them fun-shaped Halloween chocolate and candy.
I also gift one of my Awesome Sisters a new costume for her doggies to add to their vast collection. This sister is a teacher (and she’s a GREAT teacher) in a small town. Her students LOVE seeing the dogs in their costumes. It brings them joy.
This is such a fun time of year!

Intrepid Encounter And Bridge Stories
The next series set in the cyborg world will feature some of the crew members stationed on the Dauntless, Intrepid’s battle station. The last core story in the Cyborg Unity series, however, features Intrepid.
Which means the Dauntless stories will span two series.
(sheepish grin) I always seem to do this and I can’t figure out how to prevent it.
And the reason I can’t prevent it is, when I started the Cyborg Unity series, I had no idea I’d be writing about the crew on the Dauntless next.
They showed up and have demanded their stories be told.
I’m NOT willing to argue with cyborg warriors. (grins)

Throwback Thursday – Defying Death
Cyborgs choose their own names and I find it fascinating that Death chose…well…Death. That is the only contribution he believes he’s allowed to make to the universe. He delivers death. He ends lifespans. He is the source of pain and suffering.
That changes when he meets Tifara.
Defying Death
He’ll risk it all for one moment of happiness.
Cyborgs don’t show emotion. Death learned that lesson early in his long lifespan. To survive, he hides his fierce passions behind a stoic wall. He calls no warrior friend. He never admits to caring for any being.
Even the human female he’s destined to love.
Tifara is Death’s obsession, his sole opportunity for happiness, to express the all-consuming passion burning brightly inside him. He’ll do anything to obtain the curvaceous medic: defy a direct order, abduct Tifara from her battle station, and wage war on his fellow cyborgs.

Gardening And Unpredictable Weather
The hail was much smaller than this stock photo hail. I didn’t, unfortunately, get a photo of it.A few weeks ago, I posted about how I was starting my winter herbs outside. I had planned to bring them indoors once the weather had cooled significantly.
Then we had a surprise hail storm in our corner of the universe.
The hail was small but there was a lot of it. It looked like it had snowed. There was a layer of hail over the entire garden and yard.
The tomatoes survived but the newly started herbs were all decimated.
I’m starting them again. This time, they’ll be started in the basement grow station.

Muse Food – Fighting The Flow
The Dear Wonderful Hubby took this photo in Ketchikan, Alaska.
As implied by the salmon statue, the salmon swim upstream, navigating the rapids in order to reach their spawning grounds. This takes a LOT of effort, almost a miraculous amount of it. They’re fighting gravity and they’re literally swimming against the stream.
I remember that when I’m fighting a story, when I’m trying to force it where I want it to go. It is much easier to ‘swim with the stream’ and follow the story where it naturally leads.
I often find that results in a better story also!

Cynthia Sax Weekly Update – October 15
Intrepid Encounter, the fifth core story in the Cyborg Unity series (releasing in November), has been loaded to booksellers. It should be ready to go on release day!
Hacking Hazard, this year’s exclusive-to-newsletter-subscribers short story (to be downloaded in December), has been sent to my Awesome Editor for the first round of edits.
I’m starting Strike Zone, the first core story in the Dauntless Cyborgs series (releasing in February), this week! I’m super excited about this part of the cyborg world and can’t wait to share more with you…once I’ve figured it out. (grins) It is a little hazy right now.
Have a wonderful week, my friends. (big hugs) Read a monster romance. (Dark Thoughts definitely qualifies as one of those.) Play some spooky music. Ask someone who their favorite monster is. We, adults, don’t get asked those type of questions nearly often enough!

Cyborg vs. Valkyrie

That includes waging war on a tall, broad-shouldered cyborg warrior sporting brilliant blue eyes and grimly set lips.
The male might…just might have battle skills matching her own. And that excites the immortal fighter. She craves his rough touch, his punishing embrace, his stern words.
But Olrun’s desire for the cyborg won’t distract her from achieving her goal. She will shield her Valkyrie sisters from danger, even if that means ending Intrepid’s lifespan in the process.
