Muse Food – Fighting The Flow
The Dear Wonderful Hubby took this photo in Ketchikan, Alaska.
As implied by the salmon statue, the salmon swim upstream, navigating the rapids in order to reach their spawning grounds. This takes a LOT of effort, almost a miraculous amount of it. They’re fighting gravity and they’re literally swimming against the stream.
I remember that when I’m fighting a story, when I’m trying to force it where I want it to go. It is much easier to ‘swim with the stream’ and follow the story where it naturally leads.
I often find that results in a better story also!

Cynthia Sax Weekly Update – October 15
Intrepid Encounter, the fifth core story in the Cyborg Unity series (releasing in November), has been loaded to booksellers. It should be ready to go on release day!
Hacking Hazard, this year’s exclusive-to-newsletter-subscribers short story (to be downloaded in December), has been sent to my Awesome Editor for the first round of edits.
I’m starting Strike Zone, the first core story in the Dauntless Cyborgs series (releasing in February), this week! I’m super excited about this part of the cyborg world and can’t wait to share more with you…once I’ve figured it out. (grins) It is a little hazy right now.

Intrepid Encounter And Being A Leader
Intrepid, the hero of Intrepid Encounter (releasing in November), is the captain of a battle station.
He is in command of the cyborg crew. And he’s a great leader.
That means, unfortunately, he has to act responsibly. He can’t do whatever his heart or his emotional system dictates.
And he has to follow orders. Because he expects beings to follow HIS orders.

Intrepid Encounter And Adopting A Child
Olrun, the Valkyrie heroine of Intrepid Encounter (releasing in November), adopted an orphaned human child she found on a battlefield many, MANY solar cycles ago.
That is NOT the Valkyrie way. Valkyries have a rule about forming permanent relationships only with fellow Valkyries.

The Sole Remaining Zinnia
I planted a gazillion zinnia seeds this year. Many of them sprouted. But all of them, except one plant, was dug up by the raccoons.
That one plant, however, produced at least 20 big beautiful blooms. I guess it decided to fill the bed by itself. (grins)
And the bumblebees loved that plant. They were constantly collecting pollen from it.
Ideally, I would prefer to have at least two plants before collecting seeds. I didn’t have that luxury this year.
So I’ve collected seeds from the solo plant. I won’t know until next year if those seeds are viable.
Gardening IS a huge experiment, isn’t it?

Muse Food – Niagara Falls And Perspective
Perspective and point of view is a powerful tool.
Here is an image of Niagara Falls.
It doesn’t look very impressive, does it? It looks like anyone could safely go over the falls in a barrel.
Here is an image of Niagara Falls taken from a different perspective.
This image of Niagara Falls shows more of its strength. We can clearly see why going over this falls in a barrel is a bad and often deadly idea. It is a force to be respected.
This is the power of perspective. It can save lives…and create a much more interesting story.

Spending More Time With The Older Generations
You’ll likely see more no-writing stretches of time on my weekly update. The number of stories I publish every year (3 novels plus 1 short story) shouldn’t change but I will be organizing my time differently.
Because the Dear Wonderful Hubby and I want to spend more time with the older generations, the loved ones we affectionately call ‘the olds.’ (grins)
Many of these loved ones are fast approaching triple digits age-wise. We’re heartbreakingly aware that they could be traveling to the next place much sooner than we’d wish. And we also know we’re dang fortunate to have them with us today.
When they want to see us, we’re seeing them.
And this often happens in blocks. One Auntie will have us over for lunch (and to complete errands – grins). Another Auntie will hear about this and invite us over for lunch (and to complete errands).
There will be weeks when much of our ‘spare’ time is spent with these loved ones. Those weeks will be lighter on the writing.
But I will make up for that in other weeks. Stories will still be written. And we’ll have the joy of spending time with ‘the olds.’ (smiles)

Strive For Forever
This cyborg seeks to vanquish an ancient entity and save his curvy human female.
Euryale made a terrible mistake. She opened a container she shouldn’t have touched and released one of the oldest lifeforms in existence. That all-powerful entity is now utilizing her as its host body and is slowly draining her energy.

Throwback Thursday – Dark Flight
In Dark Thoughts, the first story in the Refuge/Dark Thoughts series, the hero, Kralj, is dark and ominous and he’s also scarred. He feels like he looks like the monster he is.
Orol, the hero of Dark Flight, in contrast, looks like an angel. He’s beautiful. He has wings. Beings are awed by how gorgeous he is.
But if Kralj is a monster, Orol is a monster also. He was created to kill and he enjoys it.
Which is fortunate for Rhea, the heroine of Dark Flight. She needs a skilled warrior.

Orol, the Refuge’s second-in-command, has been given what he believes is a simple mission—escort two human females to the settlement. The winged warrior arrives at the meeting site to find one of the females missing and the other aiming a gun at his head. To rescue the first, he must capture the second. Once he has Rhea in his talons, however, he realizes he never wants to let her go.

Rhea doesn’t trust anyone. She certainly doesn’t follow commands issued by a gorgeous flying male with glittering eyes, a beautiful face, and a seductive touch. Orol is dominant, edged with darkness, and determined to find her sister. Rhea will do anything to prevent that, even if it means playing sensual games of submission with her powerful enemy, seducing him into forgetting everything except her.
