Strike Zone And Being A Child Of An Important Being
Kesser, the human heroine of Strike Zone, the first core story in the Dauntless Cyborgs series (releasing in February), is the daughter and the only child of her planet’s leader.
She has perfected the art of being a silent invisible support being. Her mom asks her advice on many topics…privately. Publicly, Kesser is a being in the background. She dresses without flair. She speaks seldomly. She redirects all attention to her mom, the planet’s leader.
And she likes it that way…mostly.
Sometimes she longs to be someone’s full focus.
Which is good for Strike. (grins) Because no one is more focused on another being than a cyborg warrior around his genetic match.

A cyborg devoted to duty…and to her.

While attending a party, Kesser, the daughter of her planet’s leader, witnesses the abduction of her best friend and her best friend’s mate.
She’s determined to rescue them. Preferably without fracturing the fragile peace agreement her mom has crafted with the abductors’ planet.
The only issue is…she has never participated in a retrieval mission.
Searching for assistance, she approaches the mate’s guard. The male, with his big, broad shoulders and deep growly voice, affects her like no other being ever has.

She’s also traveling to the next planet he has to search. He plans to claim his female while he fulfills his responsibilities to his kind.
Neither Strike nor Kesser realizes the dangers facing them are far greater than they imagine. Their enemies are converging and one failed mission could doom the entire universe.

Gardening – Composting In Winter
Some gardening experts advise to freeze kitchen scraps over winter and then place them in compost bins in the spring. They rightly relay that composting slows significantly, perhaps even stopping over the winter.
I trek through the snow and place my kitchen scraps in the compost bin.
Why?
My freezer is almost always full. It is relatively full from the fall harvests. We’re thankful for that. And we freeze meat, milk, bread, etc. that the super skilled bargain hunting Dear Wonderful Hubby finds on sale.
Our compost bin also has a black lid. Which heats up the bin. And, with climate change, we sometimes have 10C/50C days in the middle of winter now.
I’m finding more and more that composting DOES happen over the winter. I don’t want to waste those great compost days.

Strike Zone And Secondary Romances
I think, and this is merely a guess as beings in my stories tend to do their own things, almost every story in the Dauntless Cyborgs series will have a secondary romance.
There will be a main romance between the title cyborg and his genetic match. That romance will be explored in detail.
And there will likely be a secondary romance between two or more beings. One of those beings may or may not be a cyborg.
In Strike Zone, the secondary romance is between the heroine’s best friend (both the heroine and the best friend are human females) and a humanoid/alien male.
This secondary romance will be…well…secondary. (grins) Every moment of that romance won’t be seen. Only the moments that interact with the main romance will be shown.
Why are there so many secondary romances in this series?
Because the cyborgs are exploring a new-to-them not-well-documented sector. And they’ll find numerous genetic matches in this sector.

Muse Food – The Trails We Leave
The Dear Wonderful Hubby and I spotted these condensation trails in the blue sky. They were left by some sort of aircraft.
It made me think about all the trails we leave all around us – footprints in the sand, cologne in the air, warm spots where we’ve been sitting, etc.
Beings in our stories would leave those trails also. There would be little signs they were in a place. That’s super cool and might be something we consider adding to our stories.

Strike Zone – Strike And Kesser
Strike Zone, the first core story in the Dauntless Cyborgs series (releasing in February), features Strike and Kesser.
Strike, the Dauntless’s duty-driven Second-in-Command, claimed that name because he is a take-action type of cyborg. He’ll strike hard and fast to protect the beings he loves (and to please the female he adores – grins).
Kesser is named after a wonderful customer service person I ‘met’ during a series of interactions while I was ordering something special for my Awesome Mom. I loved that name. With one vowel change, it becomes Kisser. (grins) That’s fun.

Muse Food – The Little Delights
The Dear Wonderful Hubby and I were trekking along a rock-covered shore and we spotted this little snail hidden among the rocks.
There are little creatures all around us. They might be too little for our eyes to see without help. Or they could be hidden. Or they could be merely…small. (smiles)
That is true in the worlds we build also. Not every creature or other type of life form will be easily visible. But they are likely there. And they might cause chaos or invoke delight in your characters.

Cynthia Sax Weekly Update – January 7
Strike Zone is back with my Awesome Editor. The story works! That’s always a relief. (grins) And I love it so very much. It needs at least one more round of edits before it is ready to be sent to my Wonderful Formatter, the Dear Wonderful Hubby.
This week, I’ll be thinking about Drift’s story – who Drift is as a cyborg, as a pilot, as a being, who his heroine is, what that first scene will look like, etc. I love this stage of the story, all the imaginings and what ifs!

Hacking Hazard And Teasing
Hazard’s cyborg brethren tease him about chasing every possible lead in his search for his genetic match.
