A FUGITIVE FROM LIFE
A FUGITIVE FROM LIFE
K. D. Brogdon
An excerpt
Life, as we know it! There are many avenues for which to travel down the so called path of life. Some may lead us to the land of riches, or what we perceive as riches. The happy family life, the never ending financial windfall, or the one event that triggers an elated emotional response. There are also avenues that lead us to destruction. The alcoholic, the destitute; the one event that robs us of our sanity. All are choices we make along our journey. Maybe!
Seated next to you may be a person experiencing the windfalls of life while across the street from you is the destitute, the homeless, or the person attempting to escape the daily reminders that haunt their being.

The Ole Gringo
The Ole Gringo
An excerpt from
The Seeker
A Short Story
by
K. D. Brogdon
“My friend, my face does not hide the passing of time, however, it displays timelines of experience. Yesterday is a learning tool for tomorrow. I celebrate fond memories with tears of joy. Tragic events are held with a heavy heart.”
The Ole Gringo takes a slow drag on his cigarette, leaning his head back as a puff of smoke shoots into the air above him. Continuing, “I do not seek fame or fortune. I have visited the spotlight. My tomorrow’s are secure. I only seek the comfort of a pure heart, a good soul, and a day of happiness.”
Stirring the ashes of their campfire, The Seeker looks to his friend, and in a low deep tone says, “your words are wise. Your paradigm extensive. I shall keep you,in my thoughts, wherever my journey takes me.”

The Thin Blue Line
I have seen the paradigm shift in law enforcement. The New Centurions brought college education and a new way of thinking to law enforcement. The New Techno Cops have brought changes as well. They carry Ipads instead of notebooks and pens. They use Blackberry smart phones instead of dumbbells. They report crimes instead of investigating them. They write traffic tickets instead of looking for burglars – robbers.

Thin Blue Line
A Novel by K. D. Brogdon
A story of The Tampa Police Department
This book is dedicated to all of the men and women in law enforcement who protect our daily lives by placing their lives on that thin blue line, especially the Tampa, Florida Police Department.
I have had the honor of walking in the footsteps of these centurions. I have seen great acts of heroism by both men and women, none seeking recognition for their acts. I have seen them cry when they laid a partner, a friend to rest. I have seen…

Cops
Cops are like vegetables; either you like them, or you hate them. As a young person growing up, I hated the vegetables that my mother placed before me. I despised any sign of authority. However, as I grew and matured, I realized just how important vegetables are to my well being. I realized how important cops are to my safety and well being. Cops are like vegetables; you do not have to like them, but you do need them.

A Crossfit Instructor
A Crossfit Instructor does not teach for money, but to satisfy a desire to help other Crossfitters. “I do not want someone not to exercise because of money.” He/she learns all they can about Crossfit by participating, studying, and competing. The daily WOD is a competition against ones self. Watching a Crossfitter or You Tube videos is NOT participating, studying, or competing.
I was taught Crossfit by Mike Caldwell at Crossfit BNI in Brandon, Florida. I was certified a Crossfit Level One Instructor by Crossfit.
If you are exercising with an instructor, please ask him/her if they are a certified Crossfit Instructor. Please do not hurt yourself by training with a person who watches Crossfitters or You Tube videos about Crossfit.
Get on the Internet and go to Crossfit.com. You will find a list of affiliation Boxes. Global gyms are not affiliated with Crossfit. Their Instructors are NOT certified Crossfit Instructors.

The end of an Era (or Error)
Twenty-seven years ago my then brother-n-law said to me, " Come to Florida, the Tampa Police are hiring.".
I looked at this big city police sergeant as my mind began to race with the possibilities this avenue could bring to me. The respect of being one of America's Finest. The ability to reach out and help others. The financial security of a retirement plan. Limited only by the restrictions I place upon myself.
Only yesterday I was chasing a dream, pinning a badge upon my chest and swearing an oath of responsibility that comes with the authority of that badge. I have seen acts of heroism by men and women, neither looking for the recognition for their acts. I have seen these heroes cry as we have laid to rest a friend, a partner.
I now turn the page of life. My literary agent says, "the time has come to quit your play job and to take writing seriously."
With that said, March 17, 2012, I shall leave Tampa and the wonderful folks whom I now call friends. Life is a journey and with it comes many obstacles. How we address those obstacles speakers volumes of our character. When I joined the Tampa Police Department, all I wanted was to ride a police motorcycle and be promoted to sergeant. Looking back, I hope that I influenced one person to be a better person.

Deportation
The Obama administration recently announced a policy shift for the deportation of illegal aliens. Most of us know that this is directed towards Mexico. The shift, as I understand it, is to place a priority on law violators, and to "set aside" non criminal cases. This placing of cases to "the back burner" is American politics placing hope into the hearts of many, while in reality, it is just a precursor to the cardiac surgery that is forthcoming.
Case in point. USA Today, 12/05/2011, the Ramos case details the deportation of a mother of three. She has no criminal record, hard working, and paying taxes. She has been in the United States for our twenty years. Read this story.
I have traveled extensively throughout Mexico and Central America. There are no jobs, no hope. The jobs that we do not take here in the U. S., the house cleaners, the crop pickers; these are the positions filled by many illegal aliens. No not all of them, but most.
Now, I for one support proper documentation and legal entry into our country, as well as other countries. However, I also believe that there is an exception to every rule. The Ramos case is that exception. The Obama Administration has once again placed false hope into the heart of an American! Yes, Ms. Ramos is an American.
In support of Ms. Ramos, whom I do not know, forward this message so that others can support her return to her children. Maybe, just maybe, we can get it right for a change.

Libya
Libya warns U.S. to back off on arrest of protesters in New York. Occupy Wall Street presents the same ideas that got us in this mess!!! Bring back Teddy Roosevelt.

Greatness and Heroism
Greatness and heroism are not something that you are born with, but they are crowns that are placed upon you by someone else for some deed that destiny has cast upon you.
Thanks God for Navy Seals, the men and woman in our armed services, firefighters, and the police officers who place their lives on that thin blue line.
I have had the honor and privilege of walking in the footsteps of heroes for the past twenty-plus years.
God Bless this great country of ours and the men and women who gave their lives so that we can live ours…
