Man of Fashion, Man of Bad Cinematography

Well, it's time for another installment of the Pop Culture Moment!

This is a spoof, not of any specific work, but of a genre as a whole. The genre in question? The Older Historical Movie. Someday I might do one on recent historical movies, but this one focuses on black and white films of the 20s, 30s, and 40s.

I have made the movie silent, because silent movies are funny, but many of the elements were also present in movies of the later decades. The 18th century was wildly popular for per...

Do NOT Skip This Post (Giveaway Announcements and More!)

I know I haven't posted for awhile. That's because I've been busy reorganizing the blog. I'm also building a new website, but I'll enlarge on that later. I want to create a certain kind of community on Stardust and Gravel, geared towards musicians as well as authors, and emphasizing homeschooling moms as well as graduates. I've also made some changes in my own approach to writing.

So basically, there are three important updates:

1: Starting in October, I will be hosting several writer giveaways...

In the End the Story Ended

I've got a number of things for my readers today.

First is the announcement of Elizabeth Kaiser's new fantasy book, Traitor's Knife. It is the second in her excellent YA series, which combines adventure and mystery with a fantasy setting. I have enjoyed this series, the more because it is pleasantly light on magic. (This element has grown quite old over the last decade.) Elizabeth is a friend of mine and will be appearing on this blog in the near future.

The second is a lovely little review of...

Because The Post Needs a Title

I know it's been a month since I posted, though honestly it doesn't feel that long. I have not forgotten the "Pop Culture Moment" skits and have several in the works. Most of them were written on real paper--ah, how old-fashioned--and with our computer troubles and hordes of real life projects, I haven't had time to type them into the computer. Hopefully soon . . .

Meanwhile, I've been swamped by daily life--including our new stove--and with researching publishers and authors. The diversity is...

News

I have finally succeeded in releasing Kindle single ebooks for Halogen Crossing and Jurant. These join The Amulet of Renari, which was released last year. The old Facets of Fantasy book, containing five stories, has gone out of publication for the time being.

All three have been edited slightly--Jurant noticeably so, though no important plot content has been removed. Chapters have been removed, though the books are divided at natural break intervals. The Trouble with Taranui and Millhav...

Changes Ahead

I know I've been a little quiet in my blogging recently. It's not because I don't love you guys--at least I assume you are plural, although Blogger won't let me know exactly how many followers I have. Anyway, I will be optimistic and assume you are plural.

I've been busy transforming this blog to reflect my new writing direction. It's been fun to see the new look developing--it's very much a makeover for me and for my web home. I had a glitch a few days back where I accidentally posted some pi...
