Launch Day

And with that, Leviathan is out in the world in all its formats, for its sweet introductory price of 99 cents. Grab it before June 22! And thank you all so very much for reading along. Every book, I’m learning, is a journey; I’m grateful to everyone who has traveled with me. It wouldn’t have been the same without you.

babylon berlin

Rich historical setting, multiple narratives, debauchery and decadence, AND two musical numbers bracketing a whole spectrum of sexuality and class? Yes, please. I’m only on episode 7. Don’t give it away.

(Seriously, though, it’s a bit of synchronicity to come across this as I plot out the revised book . How do the various character arcs develop? Where do the episodes seem to drag, where does it feel like we skipped something important, or lingered too long in a scene? I am taking notes, BB....

E Is for Evil

The first reviews for the latest Alphabet Anthology have been coming in, and I’m relieved to report I’ve stayed right on brand with my story:

X is for Xavier – 5 stars A stunning historical horror, absolutely incredible in its mesmerizing detail, with a main character you love to hate.

“We Are Sirens” is live at Podcastle

where it is read by the wonderful Abra Staffin-Wiebe. Episode 521, nearly one of my old building numbers, heh. It is a strange, wondrous experience to hear your work read by another person.

PodCastle 521: We Are Sirens

In other news, I have a new fancy Facebook Page, so if you’re a fan of the FB give it a like! Still can’t think of a username, but I’m working on it.

In other other news, I have finally seen the infinite war of avenging, and I liked it more than I thought I did. I made notes a...

a sale, an interview, a book, a planner

Right now Vacui Magia is on sale at Kobo for 99 cents. If you’ve been thinking of checking it out, perhaps now is the time?

I was interviewed by the excellent Tim Jeffreys over at Dark Lane Books, about process, short fiction, and that endless struggle to balance paying-work and writing-work.

In other news …

Leviathan is in layout, so ARCs are coming soooooon!

I’ve been trying to finish a line edit on novel #1 so I can finally send it to a few people who were kind enough to show interest. It’...

the last editing pass

Copyedits came back, and now begins the last clean-up and massaging. Always bittersweet, this time. Every stage after the first draft is a kind of letting go: of great lines/scenes that just don’t belong, of moments that work for me but confuse my editor and betas, and now of the book itself.

I’ve settled on June 15 as the release date. Fly, Leviathan, fly.

Leviathan is coming

Dear readers, it’s finally happening. Forgive me for dawdling; I was loathe to leave this story. But in just two months it will be your turn … watch this space for preorder information, official publication date, and more.

We will survive this, Caroline.

When a stranger arrives in their village and asks to see the damaged bay, Caroline Daniels and Joanna Chase know that word of the creature has spread despite the efforts of Mr. Smith. With tensions simmering between France and England, they...

Mona Fiori is out in the world

…and I’m pretty excited. Zetetic has had some ups and downs, but I’m not quite sure who else would have taken as unusual a piece of writing. Unusual is Zetetic‘s mandate, and their other tales are well worth a browse.

https://zeteticrecord.org/2018/04/from-court-visionaries-of-the-imperial-age/

It may be worth mentioning too that somewhere in the lower levels of my to-write list is a full version of Court Visionaries of the Imperial Age, hopefully with illustrations, and I’ve scribbled some r...

In like a lion, out like a lion

March has been a month for practicing gratitude: for the gift of unemployment, which has meant time to write; for this writing life; for the support of family, friends, and felines; and for you readers out there, who are the other half of the writing equation. Leviathan is off with its editor and I am 3/4 of the way through revising my poor neglected novel and remembering all that I loved about it. It is an overdue reconciliation. My head, as usual, is bursting with story stuff and I would l...
