Lit Crawl, and then, hiatus
This coming Saturday night is Lit Crawl, a literary pub crawl that’s part of San Francisco’s Litquake festival. I’ll be reading with the Horror Writers Association in support of Tales for the Camp Fire at 5:00 at Dalva, 3121 16th Street in SF. Come check us out!
After that … after that I am pulling into my shell for a while. I’ll be doing Nano again, but I have no more appearances and only a few deadlines. Since I rebooted myself into this writing career I have constantly struggled with balan...

Five questions with Loren Rhoads
5 Questions for L.S. Johnson
I’m over this week at Loren Rhoads’ website, answering five questions about myself and Rare Birds. You may already know Loren from her excellent horror and space opera novels, her work with Morbid Curiosity magazine, or her talks and book about cemeteries and all that can happen to us after we die. It was a pleasure as always.
Also this happened yesterday. A ribbon is a ribbon is a ribbon. Thank you all.

And Rare Birds is live

Thank you, everyone, for your readership, your support, your company on this writing journey. I wouldn’t be here without you.

’twas the night before book release
and this writer ran a ridiculous number of errands, had a frenetic work shift, broke her car door handle, made it through her novel group without being completely incoherent, and finished it by watching old episodes of Gundam Wing. Too tired to promo, so let’s watch mecha battles instead. (’90s anime has some crazy stuff going on, and I’m not just talking about the hair.)

content warnings and rare birds
Rare Birds: Stories comes out next week, eep! And I wanted to take a moment to point out a little something extra I did in this book. In collections, it’s customary to list previous publication history somewhere – often on the copyright page, but I like to put it in the back of the book. (I suspect back of the book will become the norm for a lot of material over the next few years, as online previews only show a few pages and you want to ensure those are all story, not a half title or copyrig...

Panic Room Radio cancelled
This Thursday, I was scheduled to read an excerpt from “Ada, Awake” on Panic Room Radio, as part of an entire episode on Tales for the Camp Fire. This event is now cancelled, and there are no plans to reschedule it.
I want to remind everyone out there that this book is a charity anthology. No one in this book has been paid for their work. No one is making bank off this book. Every dime of profit is going north, to help people who have been burned out of their homes. People who have lost every...

2019 mood: AoT
OMG Attack on Titan. So glad now that I didn’t cave and start reading the manga, or I might have missed the gut-punch of those last three episodes.

I’m doing a little rethinking of things, including this blog space.

i have already watched this
three times this morning. it’s exquisite and, in light of the recent extinction headlines, full of a kind of pre-grief. perhaps this is also the kind of morning you’re having. h/t to warren ellis’ newsletter.
