better than a postcard

Mockup of a little book, made from one sheet of paper. As a different kind of bookmark / postcard / promo piece. Still need to fiddle but nearly there.

hiatus and eligibility

I am finally making progress. Note to self: mental health is so, so much better when you maintain a regular writing practice. To the point where it’s worth being a b*tch over it.

Except with this guy, however. He’s allowed to interrupt me.

And it’s awards nomination time! Which means it’s time to recap what I did this year (and remind myself that, um, I did get some things published this year):

Apple, Who Is Love,” novelette, in F Is for Fairy

The Sunrise Manor Routine,” short story, in...

Hiatus: NaNoWriMo 3

You awaken in darkness and leave your house and start walking. You have a place to go – an end scene – and you can see a bit of the path before you, but that’s all. You do have an old map, a hodgepodge of ideas and characters and events, but who can see maps in dark like this? It’s that darkness before the dawn. It’s chilly. People keep calling you back to sleep in and have a strong cup of tea and a nice hot breakfast.

Hiatus: NaNoWriMo 1

It’s a little over halfway through the month, which means we’re a little over halfway through NaNoWriMo, and I am behind by about 3 or 4 days. One of the ways I use NaNo (and there are many ways to use NaNo besides writing a novel) is to check in with myself about writing. What’s my process now? What are my fears, my anxieties? But this year I also wanted to win. I told myself I wanted to get out a 50k garbage draft as a way of clearing out the mental pipes and to try and write daily again. But I...

veteran’s day

This is my father in 1968. Lest we forget. Someday I will write a story about this picture, about how this year rippled outwards, about trauma. Until then, remembering.

Hiatus 10/24/19

Quiet night with Joe Abercrombie’s A Little Hatred. Trying to figure out what font is being used for chapter heads etc. No writing this week so far, but the gears are starting to grind.
