The Painter’s Widow Paperbacks – Update
Hello everyone! I know there are some folks out there who are waiting for their paperbacks of The Painter’s Widow – unfortunately, so am I. COVID-19 has impacted all aspects of life, and printing is no different. I had hoped to get a lovely big order from Ingram, whose printing is generally better than Amazon’s … but Ingram is having trouble, so I also have an order in from Amazon. Which one will get here first? Right now Amazon is saying about 10 more days, while Ingram isn’t offering a date at...

The Painter’s Widow is out in the world …

… and you can find all the lovely Buy links here.
And my goodness, what a launch day it’s shaping up to be. Right now my newsletter is stuck in Mailerlite, who chose this past weekend to do its largest upgrade ever … and had so many problems that it has suspended all email campaigns while it fixes them.
So this is a rule of self-publishing: no launch is smooth. I think with every book I’ve had some kind of unexpected problem, either in production or launch. I’ve learned to build in ex...

some further thoughts on changing the narrative
Earlier this week in my newsletter I wrote about this moment in history and the potential for writers and readers to change the narrative. I had more thoughts than what I included, but it was already long (“a moralizing screed” as one irate reader informed me, and damn right it was), so I compressed it to what felt urgent—to push for justice, to take care of ourselves and each other, to create habits of solidarity rather than short-term reactions—and put the rest aside.
I haven’t been sleepin...

virus/updates part 4
Milestones: today, for the first time in my life, I filed for unemployment.
But good news! Tomorrow Little Men with Knives goes live at Tales to Terrify. I am stoked to hear it.
Ive had this song running and running in my head, even when I meditate its an unshakeable background noise. Perhaps because Beirut is part of the soundtrack for the story Im working on, but this song and my world right now feel like they dovetail too neatly.

waiting for registration to open for the free Clarion workshops. maybe Ill see some of you there?
this has been stuck in my head all week. also the video made me painfully homesick. my poor city.
the virus isnt in my life directly yet, but it feels like its getting closer. starting to hear reports of illness from the fringes of my social circle: friends of friends, distant thrice-removed relatives, that sort of thing. like watching the tide come in.
stay home if you can. wash your hands....

virus/updates part 1
as I suspect there will be more to come.
FOGcon happened, and was lovely as always. I was on panels which made me feel both awed at the intelligence of my fellow panelists and reminded me of how much more I can learn and grow as a person, which is the best kind of feeling. Our Dangerous Women reading went well, and thank you to everyone who bought Rare Birds I sold out! A FOGcon first, that. If you missed out on getting a copy, you can now order paperbacks direct through Gumroad and if you...
