Simon & Schuster goes self-published?

According to the Christian Science Monitor yesterday, Simon and Schuster is teaming up with Author Solutions Inc. to create Archway Publishing, a publishing house which will focus on self-published books. At first glance, I’m thinking wait a minute, how can a publishing giant who is definitely not a self-publishing company cash in on the self-publishing craze? It just didn’t make any sense to me until I read further. And still it doesn’t really make any sense but I’m sure they have their...

Announcing New Client: Ingrid King, Author of ‘Purrs of Wisdom: Conscious Living Feline Style’

I have a truly fantastic author touring December 3 – January 11. Ingrid toured with us last year at this same time with her book, Dear Sparkle: Cat-to-Cat Advice from the World’s Foremost Feline Columnist. Loved loved loved the book. Cute cover! I had a cat who looked just like the cat on the cover. It’s been so long, I’m forgetting the cat’s name but hopefully it’ll come to me. Dang, don’t you hate that. I want to say Morris, but not that’s not it. Dang. Anyway, Ingrid will be doing some...

Does your book have a cliff-hanging first chapter moment?

I was just talking to one of my tour coordinators, Cheryl Malandrinos, about a new feature (she was the one who gave me the idea) at Literarily Speaking called First Chapter Reviews. It’s simple. Instead of reading the whole book, you read the first chapter and give a quick review, then mention whether you would keep reading or not. Sure it’s not a full-fledged review but I feel these first chapter reviews really tell you something about a book and that’s why I like doing them.

One thing I...

Making your virtual book tour stops count

Today is the first day of November 2012 tours! It’s crazy, it’s insane and it sets the fire roaring through your veins. I started going through the stops and as I’m doing this I’m wondering if anyone heeded my plea to leave comments on these stops and thank the blog host. I’ve only started so I’m not sure if they did or didn’t but something has to be said about the importance of this.

I had a blogger tell one of my blogging groups that when the author never leaves a comment, it looks like...
