Sympathy and prayers for the family of Julie L. Cannon

We at Pump Up Your Book will miss her deeply. We extend sympathy and prayer to her family and friends and hope that everyone can remember what a legacy through her books she has left us.

Here is the official press release from Abingdon Press:

Would you pay someone to publish your book? I didn’t think so.

It’s overcast here on the island but looks a lot better than yesterday when not only was it raining but cold (ych) also – an early hint of the cold winter months ahead perhaps? So, I did my walk the dogs thing and my walk around town thing to get me geared up to work on today’s tasks. Usually I check on stops first because I know better to get into email but it didn’t quite happen that way today.

I open up my email and (before I begin does anyone love Google alerts as much as a junkie love...

I have a funny feeling she is going to change my mind about the fast food industry! Oh and did I mention she’s giving away a Kin...

There is no better vehicle to sell your books online than with a virtual book tour so I don’t really blame them.

Interview with ‘The Coop’ Rebecca Reid & Win Free Kindle Fire HD!

Rebecca ReidRebecca Reid was withdrawn from school due to illness at fourteen. Being limited in the things she was able to do, she wrote all the time − poetry, stories, feelings, thoughts. At 16 she had her own page in the local weekly newspaper, the Bangor Spectator, in which she covered anything and everything: fashion, beauty, film, teen issues etc. At 17 she became a model, doing catwalk, photographic work, and TV. In 2008 she graduated in English from Queens University, Belfast, and she was awar...

Introducing my new head of public relations at Pump Up Your Book

Okay so he has a weird name. And he’s a guy. I only had one guy who worked with us at Pump Up Your Book and he wasn’t quite exactly cut out for the job so it’s an all woman team now. Until recently. So I thought we needed some testosterone. Is that the right spelling? You know, just so someone won’t say we like girls better for promoting books. And he happens to be very opinionated. What I...

Penguin sues authors over advances: right or wrong?

According to Smoking Gun, Penguin Books has filed a lawsuit against several authors who failed to deliver books at a certain time for which they received hefty advances. The Penguin Group’s New York State Supreme Court has ruled this is breach of contract and the authors must pay their advances back even though the money went to living expenses, so forth, and is probably gone by now.

When an author gets a book contract with a large house such as Penguin, it’s not unusual to get at least a...
