God Is My… (Psalms), 75

 ~ God Is My Hope, 2 ~

 

Introduction  ~  Previously from July 16, 2017 through January 6, 2019 ALN posted a series of 60 posts of “Jesus is…,” and now we look exclusively at who “God is…” from the Book of Psalms.  While not a complete list these posts occur are in the same order they are in the Psalms. 

 

Passage  ~  “I hate the double-minded, but I love Your law.  You are my hiding place and my shield; I hope in Your Word. Depart from me, you evildoers, for I will keep the commandments of my God! Uphold me according to Your word, that I may live; and do not let me be ashamed of my hope.  Hold me up, and I shall be safe, and I shall observe Your statutes continually.  You reject all those who stray from Your statutes, for their deceit is falsehood.  You put away all the wicked of the earth like dross; therefore I love Your testimonies.  My flesh trembles for fear of You, and I am afraid of Your judgments” (Psalm 119:113-120).

 

Other Passages  ~  “For You are my hope, O Lord God; You are my trust from my youth.  By You I have been upheld from birth; You are He who took me out of my mother’s womb.  My praise shall be continually of You” (Psalm 71:5-6).

Myth, 113

 ~ Believers Never Have Suicidal Thoughts ~

Myth  ~  If you have a belief in God you will never think about suicide.    Reality  ~  Believers are varied in their temperaments and personalities, and issues just like unbelievers.    Scripture  ~  Consider some examples from Scripture:  

Jonah  ~  “Lord, please take my life from me, for it is better for me to die than to live!” (Jonah 4:3). 

 

Moses  ~  “But now, please forgive their sin — but if not, then blot me out of the book you have written” (Exodus 32:32).  

 

David  ~  “How long, Lord?  Will You forget me forever?  How long will You hide Your face from me?  How long must I wrestle with my thoughts and day after day have sorrow in my heart?  How long will my enemy triumph over me?” (Psalm 13:1–2).

 

Jesus (in the garden of Gethsemane)  ~  “My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death” (Matthew 26:38).  

  Comment  ~  Sometimes we think about our miracle-working God and yet we find ourselves in desperate need of a miracle.  Satan then brings doubt to our minds which can lead us into many dark places.  I believe a key factor in facing trials on earth is to learn to always run towards the Cross – sometimes our tendency is run away from the Cross.   One of the best habits a Christian can develop is to spend a few moments each morning as they arise to reflect on the Cross of Calvary – one the things that does is to keep everything in perspective.   ~ Robert Lloyd Russell, ABUNDANT LIFE NOW blog.

Invisible God, 10of11

 ~ Moses Understood That God Was Invisible~

 

Introductory Quote  ~  “In the early days of space exploration one of the Russian cosmonauts returned from space and matter-of-factly stated that he hadn’t seen God! The essence of his comment was, ‘I’ve been there, done that, I didn’t see God — therefore there is no God.’

“Because God was not seen by Russian cosmonauts or our own astronauts, does that mean that God does not exist?  Does it mean that He is absent from outer space?  Or, is He present but invisible?

“We know that it is dark, very dark, in outer space.  We also are aware that outer space is full of light traveling from stars in all directions.  Only a tiny fraction of this light travels in a direction that causes it to reach our planet earth.  Space travelers do not see the light that is so abundant in space.

“The Scriptures tell us that the God who is light dwells in darkness!” (from the book: “GOD’S NATURE: Sonlight Sunlight”  by Robert Lloyd Russell).

 

Scripture  ~  “By faith Moses, when he was born, was hidden three months by his parents, because they saw he was a beautiful child; and they were not afraid of the king's command.

“By faith Moses, when he became of age, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter, choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God than to enjoy the passing pleasures of sin, esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt; for he looked to the reward.

“By faith he forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king; for he endured as seeing Him who is invisible.  By faith he kept the Passover and the sprinkling of blood, lest he who destroyed the firstborn should touch them.

“By faith they passed through the Red Sea as by dry land, whereas the Egyptians, attempting to do so, were drowned” (Hebrews 11:23-29).

answer:  At the very beginning of the Bible on the first day of creation (Genesis 1:3).

God Our Rock, 30

 ~ The Spiritual Rock ~

 

Introduction  ~  In Matthew 7:24-27 and Luke 6:47-49 Jesus relates the importance of building your house upon rock rather than sand.  This principle is even more critical when it comes to our spiritual life.  Each post in this series looks at a different Biblical passage which refers to our God as a Rock (not a complete list).  

 

Scripture  ~  “Moreover, brethren, I do not want you to be unaware that all our fathers were under the cloud, all passed through the sea, all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea, all ate the same spiritual food, and all drank the same spiritual drink.  For they drank of that spiritual Rockthat followed them, and that Rock was Christ.  But with most of them God was not well pleased, for their bodies were scattered in the wilderness” (1 Corinthians 10:1-4).

Introduction ~  This series is about questions involving Jesus.  Some were asked by individuals involved with Jesus Christ while He walked on earth.  Others are questions that Jesus Christ asked others.  We will look at questions on about 130 topics (some may split into two or more posts).  Even so, it is far from an exhaustive list.  

 

Scripture  ~  “And while He was still speaking, behold, Judas, one of the twelve, with a great multitude with swords and clubs, came from the chief priests and elders of the people. Now His betrayer had given them a sign, saying, ‘Whomever I kiss, He is the One; seize Him.’ Immediately he went up to Jesus and said, ‘Greetings, Rabbi!’ and kissed Him. But Jesus said to him, ‘Friend, why have you come?’

“Then they came and laid hands on Jesus and took Him. And suddenly, one of those who were with Jesus stretched out his hand and drew his sword, struck the servant of the high priest, and cut off his ear.

“But Jesus said to him, ‘Put your sword in its place, for all who take the sword will perish by the sword. Or do you think that I cannot now pray to My Father, and He will provide Me with more than twelve legions of angels? How then could the Scriptures be fulfilled, that it must happen thus?’

Myth, 112

 ~ You Need To Know The Original Languages To Understand The Bible ~

 

Myth  ~  If you can’t read and interpret Greek and Hebrew then you can’t really understand the Bible.      Reality  ~  This is one of Satan’s common lies which he uses to discourage reading of the Holy Scriptures.  There are many excellent English (and other language) translations which are true to the original.  Our Savior before leaving earth made it clear that we can understand Scripture with the help of the Holy Spirit.      Scripture  ~  Jesus said, “These things I have spoken to you while being present with you.  But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you” (John 14:25-26).    “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work” (2 Timothy 3:16-17).     Comment  ~  This post does not intend to minimize the value of knowing the original languages – it only is intended to point out how Satan deceives.
