State of the TAM - 17th January
It’s snowing!
Right this minute.
A very exciting development - less so if it still lying tomorrow when I need to go out! - and so I’m giving today over to the Wolf Winter series!
But quick updates first! I am really tired of sleeping on an air mattress, but I have successfully done a NUMBER of things that I had been putting off. So go me! I have signed up for Tumblr again. I’ve not been on there in YEARS, so I need to get all my ducks in a row re: posting. But if you want to find me…
Pups are doing ok. Izzy is not impressed with snow!
Wolf Winter
The world ends not with a bang, but with a downpour. Tornadoes spin through the heart of London, New York cooks in a heat wave that melts tarmac, and Russia freezes under an ever-thickening layer of permafrost. People rally at first—organizing aid drops and evacuating populations—but the weather is only getting worse.
In Durham, mild-mannered academic Danny Fennick has battened down to sit out the storm. He grew up in the Scottish Highlands, so he’s seen harsh winters before. Besides, he has an advantage. He’s a werewolf. Or, to be precise, a weredog. Less impressive, but still useful.
Except the other werewolves don’t believe this is any ordinary winter, and they’re coming down over the Wall to mark their new territory. Including Danny’s ex, Jack--the Crown Prince Pup of the Numitor’s pack--and the prince's brother, who wants to kill him.
A wolf winter isn’t white. It’s red as blood.

Pupdate of the Week‘Cry Wolf’ by TA Moore is a Wolf Winter short story and a prequel to Dog Days. See Danny and Jack’s first meeting, back in Scotland under the disapproving eye of the Old Man.
Jax seems to be doing well! He’s definitely in good form, and is sick and tired of his short walks and being restrained. I had a boiler check today and he was VERY AGGRIEVED he couldn’t give the man all the kisses. One week left until we see how well the op worked.
Meanwhile Izzy was NOT impressed with her training class. She was spooked by all the other dogs (two whippets and five doodles) and was uninterested in walking clockwise around the hall. Maybe disappointed by the fact her mum didn’t know what direction clockwise was right off the bat *lol*. Hopefully she’ll be a bit more happy this week!

Do I even NEED to justify including this one? :D

Castle Crom is DEFINITELY a place to check out if you in Fermanagh. Just an absolutely beautiful walk around the lake.

State of the TAM - 11th January
Two more weeks of house arrest for Jax (he gets yard time three times a day, for ten minutes). He seems to be doing OK, but he’s a bit frustrated and impatient to get out and have a trot. Hopefully once we get the all clear from the vet at the end of the month (fingers crossed!) we can get him back up a nice, long walk.
So, we continue with the self-promotion!

Free Ebook and Audio-short!Cloister Witte is a man with a dark past and a cute dog. He’s happy to talk about the dog all day, but after growing up in the shadow of a missing brother, a deadbeat dad, and a criminal stepfather, he’d rather leave the past back in Montana. These days he’s a K-9 officer in the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department and pays a tithe to his ghosts by doing what no one was able to do for his brother—find the missing and bring them home.
He’s good at solving difficult mysteries. The dog is even better.
This time the missing person is a ten-year-old boy who walked into the woods in the middle of the night and didn’t come back. With the antagonistic help of distractingly handsome FBI agent Javi Merlo, it quickly becomes clear that Drew Hartley didn’t run away. He was taken, and the evidence implies he’s not the kidnapper’s first victim. As the search intensifies, old grudges and tragedies are pulled into the light of day. But with each clue they uncover, it looks less and less likely that Drew will be found alive.

Pupdate of the Week‘Sticks and Stones’ by TA Moore is a Digging up Bones short story and a prequel to Skin and Bone. Join Cloister and Javi as they look for a missing woman on the streets of Plenty.
Jax is feeling better, which is what we wanted! At the same time it is making corralling him harder. He wants to run free! And look at that face! How hard is to say no to that face?
If I am ever in Vegas, I’m going to eat that cake. I SHOULDN’T eat that cake, don’t get me wrong. It’s a wheaty cake and I am wheat-free. I’d still do it. Might even eat two!

Bad, Dad, and DangerousEbook Was

By Rhys Ford, Bru Baker, Jenn Moffatt, TA Moore
When the kids are away, the monsters will play.
School’s out for summer, and these dads are ready to ship their kids off to camp. Not just because their kids are monsters—whose aren’t?—but because they’re ready for some alone time to let their hair down and their fangs out. You see, not only are the kids monsters—their dads are too.
Even the most dangerous of creatures has a soft spot. These bad, dangerous dads love their kids to death, but they need romance.
Every year, for a few short weeks, these hot men with a little extra in their blood get to be who they truly are. And this year, life has a surprise for them. Whether they be mage, shifter, vampire, or changeling, these heartbreakingly handsome dads might be looking to tear up the town… but they’ll end up falling in love. All it takes is the right man to bring them to their knees.

I am bleeding knackered, that’s what’s up. Between sleeping in the living room on an air mattress and trying to keep Jax chill and Izzy amused…I’m just beat! So January is going to be a month of self-promotion!
TAManuary!
I’ll also TRY and get back on a more reliable schedule!
First up to bat is Night Shift.

Pupdate of the WeekBooks 1-3 in the Night Shift Series, now in one convenient download.
Includes: Shift Work, Split Shift, and Shift Less
You'd think the werewolves would be the worst thing about the Night Shift; you'd be wrong.
All Officer Kit Marlow wanted was a cup of coffee and some downtime before his next night shift. Instead, he got a naked man in the elevator and an unaccounted-for dead girl in the morgue. He's going to need to deal with both before he can head for his bed.
Or anyone else's. Although not much chance of that.
Reluctantly partnered with the acerbic security consultant Cade Deacon—last seen naked in the elevator—Marlow delves into the dead girl's life. Between them, they uncover a new crime scene with the whiff of old corruption. A corruption that, five years ago, nearly took Marlow's life and ended his career.
Finding out who killed the dead girl on the slab might only be the start of this investigation. Oh, and it's the second night of the full moon. So 80% of the city, including Cade, will turn into werewolves in the middle of the case.
So, there's that.
Because I know a good 75% of you are here for this!
Jax is three! We had a little party.

State of the TAM - 28 Dec
I had a very nice, quiet Christmas. There was food, snacks, and lots of fuss for the pups! Despite not being able to take advantage of his full range in the living room Jax managed to do a good amount of destruction on his Christmas presents.
…then some destruction on Izzy’s presents. She was affronted! But they both had a really nice day!
Only three and a half weeks to go before we can see how he’s healed up! That will take another drive up to Portadown, which isn’t a HUGE drive but it kinda drags? Ah well, at least *fingers crossed* it won’t be as icy as last time!

Jax turned three yesterday! My little Christmas puppy. Despite his poorly elbows we still had a wee party for him and Izzy.
Must Read of the WeekI love the concepts AROUND color. Maybe because I’m a writer, so always looking for different ways to describe things. Maybe because I’m slightly (very slightly) colorblind so my perception of color is kind of off.
I’m telling you! That is a mind-fuck when you find it out, even though it sort of shouldn’t? I mean, the big reveal is the world is slightly more pink than I thought it was. But it’s still WEIRD.
This British Zoologist Wants to Reinvent ColorAndrew Parker has produced some of the brightest hues in the world. So, what’s his secret?

Andrew Parker, an English inventor, artist and zoologist at the University of Oxford, thinks color is not a thing. The world’s best colors, he says, come not from pigments or dyes, but from materials arranged into crystalline nanostructures that scatter light into “structural colors.” And when the $36 billion color industry—which is focused on dyes and pigments—takes notice, Parker think, we will have hues far richer and more dazzling than the comparatively drab tones that surround us today.

I still can’t believe Bangor is a city now. I bet parking will go up!
Why would you turn the light back off? I know we’re in a Cost of Living Crisis, but c’mon.

State of the TAM - 22nd Dec
Just $1.22 per book! Sale ends Dec 23 11:59PM Eastern US Time.

I am gonna try and keep up a weekly schedule, but might be a bit iffy on what day! Sorry, but Jax’s recuperation is kicking my butt a bit. He is doing well, but he can’t be allowed out to pee without being on a lead, he can’t be left alone for long in case someone knocks the door and jumps about, and I am doing loads of little training games to try and keep his wee brain occupied.
I’m also sleeping downstairs on an inflatable bed. It is more comfortable than you’d think, but not as comfortable as I’d like!
OH! OH! AND my littlest demon has EATEN MY NEW GLASSES. So I’m back wearing my 2019 glasses, which are two prescriptions back and not up to the job.
So, I’ll be doing my best but there might need to be some bearing with me!
Pupdate of the WeekJax is doing well! He’s annoyed with having to be calm and grounded (no jumping, no sofas, no playing), but he’s enjoying being pampered. He is in good form and is moving easily, but we’ll have to wait for his check up at the end of January to know how well the operation worked.
It’s not a fix for his problem - even best case scenario - but we’re hoping it will keep him pain free and active longer. Once he’s healed up from this we’ll be looking into hydrotherapy and (maybe) accupuncture to manage the symptoms.
Well, the vets are considering accupuncture. I can’t imagine how it would work. Jax is not a calm boy.
Meanwhile, my best girl Izzy is EXTREMELY frustrated that her brother isn’t there to play her. She’s made a few flying squirrel attempts to break into his pen to play. But she’s finally out of her donut of shame - post being spayed - and seems to be over the whole phantom pregnancy thing.
She sleeps downstairs too. I worry they are going to get used to this.

I am writing a smooth talking sombitch at the moment. It’s definitely easier to BE smooth-talking when your author controls both sides of the dialogue, but you still need to find the…brain space…of someone who is good at talking to people. So I’m nosing around a few articles like this.
Couldn’t be me, of course. When someone surprises me with a tough question, I prefer to stare uncomfortably and then aggressively Irish my way around the topic until a: one of us gets tired b: I work out an answer c: I answer without realizing and we all move on.
When a Tough Question Puts You on the Spot
We’ve all experienced that moment when someone asks us a question and we’re caught unprepared. Maybe a direct report raises a challenging question about layoffs during a town hall meeting, or a client calls you unexpectedly and wants to know what is going to happen in the markets. How can you maintain relationships — and trust — when you don’t have the answers people are seeking?
They are right! There has to be. Why is it like this?

Flash State of the TAM - 15th Dec
Jax’s surgery went well and he’s home safe and sound!
He’s on six weeks strict room rest, which is going to be fun. In Jax’s wee mind he’s already read to fight the gods and bounce off walls. But needs must! In ten days he gets his stitches out and then he’s just on quiet walks and calm vibes until he heads back up to Portadown to get another x-ray and see how it has all healed.

I’ll keep you guys updated on his progress. It’ll mostly be various shots of him sulking in a doughnut, but still :D
Thanks!

I’m not dead! I’m sure that’s a relief to some :D. I’m sorry for going radio silent, there’s just been a lot going on over here and I kept figuring I could pick the newsletter up next week! So I finally made myself do it. Hello again!
So, anyhow!
Thanks for reading TA Moore Writes! Subscribe for free to receive new posts and support my work.
If you haven’t read the Night Shift series then you can now! All three volumes in one box set are available for pre-order now on Amazon. There’s no new content, so if you have read it then you don’t need to grab another!

And if you haven’t read the free short stories/listened to the audio on my website, it’s not too late! Check it out now. Or over Christmas. It’s up to you!

Now I know how much you guys love Jax and Izzy, so I wanted to get straight to that.
Izzy just got spayed. I’ve spent the last week and a half sleeping on an air mattress in the living room to try and make sure she didn’t get to licking herself! She hasn’t been a bad wee patient though. I’ve no idea how she was consistently able to get her surgical onesie off in the night, mind you.
She is currently undergoing a phantom pregnancy, which happens fairly often after a bitch is spayed I guess? I didn’t know that. So Izzy is very attached to her ‘baby’ (a long pink bunny that was actually Jax’s original) and spends a lot of time carrying it around and making little nests for it.
I could do without her turning my entire bed into a nest at two am, mind you.

Then, of course, there’s my boo!
Jax actually hasn’t been feeling great. He hurt his leg back in October, but it passed quickly. Except every now and again I’d notice him favoring the leg. It wasn’t extreme, he looked like one of those comedians doing a skit about a cockney strut, but it worried me. So off he went to the vets.
He’s been x-rayed and ct scanned. It turns out he has medial compartment syndrome, which is like elbow dysplasia turned to 100. Just something that happens, the vet says. Anyhow, he’s going in tomorrow to get an operation at the orthopedic specialists and hopefully that will ease the discomfort for him.
He’s a very happy boy despite it all, and seems to be doing well.
I’ll send another quick newsletter on Thursday/Friday to let you guys know how he’s doing.

I have written two Christmas books — sorta. Well, this is the one that is DEFINITELY a Christmas book.
![Ghostwriter of Christmas Past (2017 Advent Calendar - Stocking Stuffers) by [TA Moore]](https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/hostedimages/1671025743i/33722945.jpg)
Ever since ghostwriter Jason Burke ended up in loco parentis for his orphaned niece, Mallory, he’s been trying. He goes to parent/teacher events, and he makes packed lunches, so he definitely didn’t mean to forget about Christmas. He just hasn’t celebrated it since he left home under a cloud years ago.
Put on the spot, Jason makes the snap decision to take Mallory to see where he and her father spent their Christmases as kids. The last thing he expects is to run into Tommy, his ex—ex-best friend, ex-boyfriend—who is still living in town… and working as a sheriff’s deputy.
It’s hard to avoid someone in a small town—and maybe Jason doesn’t want to. He got Mallory a Christmas, and maybe now it’s time to get himself a Christmas boyfriend. But first, he owes Tommy some explanations.
A story from the Dreamspinner Press 2017 Advent Calendar "Stocking Stuffers."

STATE OF THE TAM - 8th November
So much stuff! Some of which I can tell you about, some of which I can’t.
OK, let’s start with what I can’t tell you about because there’s nothing I love more than being difficult!
I’m working on a secret project that will be coming out in the New Year. I’m very excited about it and I can’t wait to see what people think about it.
So what I can talk about :D
Rhys Ford, Bru Baker, and I are working on an anthology that is probably going to be called - or at least use the initials - BDC. Nobody else wants to use that title, but I’ve had great success in the past by just using the name so many times that it becomes engrained in people’s heads. We’ll see :D
There’s also a shared universe project that I’m taking part in! It’s coming up in the New Year (later for me) and it’s WICKED COOL. It’s also right up my alley, funny enough, since my PhD was partially inspired by Carnival history and themes. Just sayin’.
Anyhow, if you want to follow along check out the series group and some of the other AWESOME authors involved.
What else? OK, that might be all. OH! I have taught Jax to ‘speak’ on command. I’m working on it, at least. He mostly just makes a frustrated groan at the moment!
Izzy stares. She’s a very intent little gremlin :D
Pupdate of the Week

And look at this, just the most dramatic picture of Izzy ever.

I couldn’t resist it. I’d throw myself in there head first. Vienetta was SUCH A TREAT when I was a kid. Proper posh. LOL

Look, you might be going ‘Tammy, how is this even tangentially related to being a writer?’. It’s a good question, but short-sighted. Because during the summer, just after my dog tried to clothes line me with his long-line lead, I had to HOBBLE back up the hill into the field behind my house. Then I tried to triangulate using the Find My Phone app, getting to within about six o seven feet? However, that was when the phone died and I was reduced to crawling around in the grass looking for my dead phone in its black case as the light dimmed.
So it’s VERY RELEVANT!
How To Locate Your iPhone, Even If It's Turned Off
Apple's Find My features are handy, but only if you turn them on in your settings before you misplace your phone.
In the 21st century, most of us live on our smartphones. They serve as a pocket computer, alarm clock, notepad, contact list, photo album, fitness tracker, GPS, encyclopedia, music player and, of course, a telephone. Moreover, these action-packed devices can feel like an extension of your own personality, and it is easy to feel naked without it.
When you reach for your pocket and realize your phone is not there, a wave of panic might set in. But there are a few quick and easy steps to start your search. If you’ve lost or misplaced an iPhone specifically, try these simple solutions to restore your sense of peace and, hopefully, bring your beloved phone back to its rightful owner.
I know Halloween is over, but it’s always spooky season in my heart. Look at these!

State of the TAM - 1st Nov
Sometimes when I write ‘State of the TAM’ at the top of this I think about that guy who was, like, WILDLY offended by it. I guess he thought I was up myself or something? Whereas, if I am entirely honest, I had always vaguely thought of my granny dismissively saying, ‘would you look at the state of her?’ when I write it.
If you’re still here though, dude? I hope it still really gets your goat.
OK, check out how cool me and Bru were as we got onto the cursed lift! I lost the pony shortly afterwards, it just couldn’t keep up with the over-active flailing in response to ‘Hey Mickey’

Honestly, I am glad Halloween is over. I love the holiday, but absolutely HATE the twassocks who fire off fireworks all though October. I miss the days when you couldn’t buy fireworks here and had to go to the school displays instead. The fireworks just absolutely drive Jax to distraction. Thankfully he seems to have shaken off the effects this year, but look at the wee baby last night?

Izzy didn’t mind the fireworks so much this year, but she wanted to show her solidarity with Jax. They both really do feel better today, I think.
Look at this poor dude’s car!?!
