POETRY: IF YOU’VE GOT IT, HIDE IT! BY PAUL TRISTRAM

If you’ve got it, hide it

or they will come steal it away.

For it is far more easier

than finding their own.

Yours is there already

practically tied-up with a bow.

Do not share your happiness

close the door and tell them “No!”

POETRY: I WILL FOLLOW YOUR OPINIONS NOWHERE BY PAUL TRISTRAM

For I have a decision making mind of my own!

Enough courage, determination and enthusiasm

to sink three fleets of battleships.

Besides, I’ve found another path right over here

and look, there’s another one just over there.

I think I’ll mosey along this one for awhile

until I feel like changing tracks somewhere up ahead.

I’ll take my time today and rush tomorrow

then take Wednesday and Thursday off completely.

I’ll turn everything upside down upon its head

and sideways if I want to and I am going to want to.

It is not that you are wrong at all, my dear fellow

it’s just that I remember being born a free man

and I shall keep wearing the coat that fits me the best.

POETRY: I HURT MYSELF SO MUCH BECAUSE YOU DID BY PAUL TRISTRAM

‘I hurt myself so much because you did’

She wrote in red and blue felt-tip pens

upon the little card which she had decorated

herself with a countryside watercolour.

Slipped it into its envelope and looked

around the large table at everyone else

in the Art Therapy Group and saw everybody

holding their very own cards and smiling.

Suddenly she felt like she did not belong…again!

She felt like an alien, someone whom THEY

had not told the Secret to, like she was standing

outside of the picture, merely observing it all.

She wasn’t smiling in fact she was weeping.

BANG! The emotional pain punched her deep

inside her senses, wearing his grinning face

and sporting her mothers crucifiable shawl.

She started to cry louder, stood up shaking

and screamed across in the Doctors direction

“You Liar, you said it would make me feel

better and it’s just making it ten times worse.

You’re just making us pick the scabs off

our eternal wounds so we can suffer some more.

Once again, the Chameleon Abuser has twisted

its foul head and this time the face of torture

that it’s showing to the laughing world is yours!”

POETRY: WHERE WE CROSS SWORDS NO LONGER BY PAUL TRISTRAM

I’d climb her ribcage,

if she’d only let me.

From the bottom

to the top.

In and out

of nostalgia

to a deeper

understanding.

Where we

cross swords no longer.

POETRY: IT BRINGS OUT THE POET IN ME BY PAUL TRISTRAM

“My God, you have hand marks

all over your torso,

I can actually make out the fingers,

how many of them were there?

You went out last night

with only £2:50 in your pocket,

I should know I gave it to you,

and you end up in the Cells

for Drunk and Disorderly

and there’s £15 in your property bag

this morning… wow, that’s magic!

You’ve chipped another tooth,

Ok it looks cute but why are you

always doing this to yourself?

You invented ‘Bar-surfing’

for Christ Sake, three of your friends

have been put in intensive care

because of it, not from the falls

but from the kicking’s the Bouncers

have given them straight afterwards.

Listen, stop asking me to pour

your breakfast for you, I’m late

for work and you need to lay down

before I’m sacked and you fall down!”
