and away we go....

Tomorrow I leave for New York and BEA, which will also be my first work trip in, like, many months. Needless to say I am scrambling today, trying to tie up every loose end I can before I go. I have clothes, but they are not packed. Lists, but they are not done. Plans, but they are not firmed up. I am hoping all of this will happen sometime in the next twenty four hours. We'll see.

I'm really excited about BEA, if only because it's been so long since I went to any conferences. I missed the last tw

Just a quick pause in this still-going holiday weekend to say that I hope you are all having a relaxing, enjoyable Monday. Every year I get so excited about Memorial Day weekend, because I associate it with summer starting, but on the actual day, today, I have to make myself pause and remember why we celebrate it in the first place. I think in the shuffle of summer and trips and deviled eggs it's sometimes too easy to forget that we have this day to honor vets and those who are still serving in

The Friday Five!

1. Today is the beginning of Memorial Day weekend, the official start of summer. Yay! I don't know about you, but I'll confess that I actually thought up until very recently (ahem, Wednesday) that Memorial Day weekend was NEXT weekend. I know! I'm a moron. But in my defense, doesn't it usually fall on the last weekend of May, not the second to last? Oh, who cares. It's a pleasant surprise and gives me one more official week of summer, and what's not to love about that? I plan to make some devile

Tour Dates!

I just looked at the calendar and kind of freaked out when I realized I had LESS than a MONTH before Along for the Ride is released. And only a little over a week before I head to NYC for BEA. (OMG check out my use of acronyms!) Now, some of these dates and times may still be subject to change. But since a couple are ticketed events and tickets are already on sale, I wanted to go ahead and post them. Just be sure to contact the store for more details if you need them, and I'll post other updates

I Confess

Okay, I'll just get this out of the way right now: I spent pretty much my entire weekend watching Bravo's The Real Housewives. Both NY AND New Jersey. I know, I know. I KNOW! I am not proud. But somehow I feel like by confessing, I am expunged. Or something.

My husband was out of town this weekend, partaking in his newest super-dangerous hobby, driving his car on a racetrack. Yes, you read that right. I got him to give up jumping his bike (which resulted in a broken sternum and surgery last year)

The Friday Five!

1. Whew! I have to say, I'm still kind of wiped out from all the excitement of the contest yesterday. It was so much fun to see all the entries, and give prizes....but a LOT of work as well. I need a nap. Or ten naps. I wonder if I can make that happen? Something tells me....well, probably not. But a girl can dream. Even if she's not, um, sleeping.

2. In other news, I am VERY close to being able to announce the book tour dates for Along for the Ride. I'm just waiting until all times are confirme

The Winners!

Today is the official pub date for the paperback of Lock and Key. To celebrate, we had a contest. We had over 300 entries, and it was TOUGH narrowing them down. But we finally managed. Without further ado, the winners:

First place, by Kristen:

Second place, by Victoria:

Third place, by Ruthie:

Congrats to all the winners! It was SUCH a hard decision, though, that we decided to give a few honorable mentions, as well. Five, to be exact. All these folks will receive signed copies of Lock and Key:

these are a few...

Yesterday, Parker and I convened at the conference area at Sarah Dessen headquarters (aka sat on half-busted office chairs around an old drafting table in my spare room) to pick the winners of the Lock and Key contest. People: this is HARD. We had over 300 entries, and they were all so, so good. I'm going to announce the winners here on the blog tomorrow---when Lock and Key is officially released---but I have a feeling we might be giving a couple of honorable mentions, because picking just the t

I know that you're SUPPOSED to spend Mother's Day in bed, being waited on hand and foot, followed by possibly a mani-pedi, or a massage, or maybe being fanned with giant palm fronds by your collective family. For me, it was all about sleeping late, cupcakes for breakfast, and then cleaning out my attic. I know, I know. I'm such a nerd. But I also get SO much pleasure from organizing things, so this was just what I wanted to do with my day.

I have two crawlspaces in my current office for storage,

The Friday Five!

1. This Sunday is Mother's Day, and I have to admit that even though it's my second as a mom, I still find myself always thinking about it like a daughter, not a mother. My first priority is making sure I have a gift for MY mom, and cards, etc, forgetting completely that I now fall into this category myself. Maybe, though, this is because only now that I'm a mom do I really get all she went through for my brother and I. Sleepless nights, so much worry, wiping runny noses, changing diapers, doin
