Fast-paced, intricately woven sequel to The Warble ~ The Shard ~ Book 2 in the Bernovem Chronicles ~ Only 2.99 on Amazon

Victoria Simcox’s fast-paced, intricately woven sequel to The Warble, takes Kristina Kingsly and her schoolmates back to Bernovem … and into a thrilling, often dangerous adventure.
Kristina’s stay at summer horse camp is horrible to say the least, and it’s all because Hester and Davina are there as well, making her life miserable. When Hester’s cruel prank goes terribly wrong, it’s actually what sends the three girls back to the magical land of Bernovem. In Bernovem, Kristina is very excited to see her former friend, Prince Werrien. When he invites her to sail with him on his ship to his homeland Tezerel, putting it simply, Kristina can’t refuse.

5 Star Review

“The Shard” is a awesome sci-fi young adult book that is part of a series I am now hooked on. It reminds me of the C.S. Lewis book series Chronicles of Narnia. This is actually the second book in the series..

The story includes a magical land, gnomes, dwarfs, fairies, a prince and more. The Shard has the main character, Kristina, arriving back in Bernovem meeting Prince Werrien. Back at home she is just a teenager who is a loner with no real friends, but in Bernovem she is the “chosen one.” Prince Werrien became her best friend two years ago in the first book, Warble, but now that they are a little older there is a somewhat budding romance building – don’t worry they barely even kiss! In this story, Kristina and Prince Werrien take off with their friends and even some unknown enemies on a ship to visit other lands.

After hearing a story, things start happening to Kristina and she tries to handle everything herself. Oh and two of her friends (or more like frenemies) come over with her to Bernovem which she also has to deal with. She is definitely a strong girl! The story is easy to follow and yet has so much of a good story line to it. It is also a somewhat quick read as the font is not super small and the story keeps you engaged. As an adult I love this series and I can only imagine how much young kids would find it.

I highly recommend checking out this book series (so far just two books) for any young reader, maybe ages 8 and up, or read them to your child and live the tale together. It is also a great book for both boys and girls as the main characters are both a boy and girl!     Cherise Kachelmuss "Mom and More"

Reunited with her gnome, dwarf, animal, fairy friends … and best of all, Werrien, things seem like they couldn’t get any better for Kristina. But when Werrien becomes fascinated with an unusual seeing stone, the “Shard” Kristina is haunted by a ghostlike old hag. Struggling against suspicion, guilt, illness, and ultimately the one who wants to possess her soul, Kristina will see it’s in her weakest moment that she will encounter more strength than she has ever known.

Seventeen-year-old Oliver Wendell Holmes (Yes, his parents are just that peculiar, but his brother’s name is Sherlock, so it could have been worse) knows that he’s different. He’s quirky, awkward, and he’s okay with that. Oliver also likes making lists—meticulous procedures for achieving his goals, step-by-step. Whether it’s “How to Get an A in Chemistry” or “How to Get Accepted to MIT,” he has a process, and it’s worked for him so far. He doesn’t even care that the popular kids mock him. Oliver’s got his eye on the prize.
So when he decides it’s time to declare his feelings for Ainsley Bishop, the girl of his dreams, it’s only natural for him to make a list—a point-by-point strategy to win her heart. He knows it will take a grand gesture for her to see all he has to offer, and her approaching birthday provides the ideal opportunity for Oliver to put his plan into action.
Finding the perfect gift is a challenge Oliver meets with his usual dogged determination. He’ll need to watch her carefully for clues to pinpoint exactly what he should give her. And along the way, he might just learn that what Ainsley really needs is not quite what he expected.

About the AuthorT.M. Franklin started out her career writing non-fiction in a television newsroom. Graduating with a B.A. in Communications specializing in broadcast journalism and production, she worked for nine years as a major market television news producer, and garnered two regional Emmy Awards, before she resigned to be a full-time mom and part-time freelance writer. After writing and unsuccessfully querying a novel that she now admits, “is not that great,” she decided to follow the advice of one of the agents who turned her down—write some more and get better at it. Her first published novel, MORE, was born during National Novel Writing month, a challenge to write a novel in thirty days.
She lives in the Pacific Northwest with her husband, Mike, is mom to two boys, Justin and Ryan, and has an enormous black dog named Rocky who’s always lying nearby while she’s writing. Whether he’s soothed by the clicking of the computer keys or just waiting for someone to rub his belly is up for debate.
In addition to MORE, Franklin penned the Amazon best-selling short story, Window, as well as another short story, A Piece of Cake, which appears in the Romantic Interludes anthology. The sequel to MORE, The Guardians, will be released November 7, 2013.
